Hamish Blake's cake night stuns fans once again

Media personality Hamish Blake has won hearts once again after documenting his attempt at making a birthday cake for one of his children. Blake shares two children, Sonny, 11, and Rudy, eight, with his wife, beauty guru Zoë Foster Blake. Every year, on the eve of one of his children's birthdays, the 43-year-old father documents his endeavour to make a birthday cake, with Rudy's eighth birthday was no exception. It's a Blake family tradition that's become something that many Australians look forward to, with brands and fans alike weighing in. 'This is our Roman Empire,' one social media user added. One commented: 'This is our Super Bowl.' 'She's going to be a spectacular cake,' another added. One social media user said: 'I love the algorithm of Instagram. I don't see your face on my feed at all until it's cake night.' 'Cake night is life, excited to see the LOL cakewalk extravaganza,' another commented. Ahead of the activity, the Lego Masters star took to Instagram to wish people a good morning and 'Happy cake night'. 'Tomorrow is my daughter's eighth birthday party. Tonight, it is cake night,' he said. 'The brief is not impossible — it's a doll. They're called LOL dolls. If you've got young kids, you will know what they are. 'If you don't, good for you. It's a doll with a pretty big head and massive eyes.' Blake said the cake would require a runway, lights, a rainbow plait and an off-the-shoulder shirt. A swinging handbag was also part of the ensemble. Blake said the hardest part was that he was filming with Andy Lee in Melbourne and needed to fly back to Sydney, where he lived, at 5.30pm — which meant the cake process would be starting later than usual. But, the hands-on dad delivered and documented the while journey. He started by making the dolls head and attaching it to a pole, which would later form the body. Blake attached it to the store-bought cake, which he had iced, and then started on the hair. The fondant kept breaking on it. 'I thought it would be like a hair plait, but it's not hair and it's not behaving like hair so we're just going to move onto other stuff,' he said, according to Mamamia. Blake moved back to the runway and the outfit, which was a little smaller than intended. He remedied the issue and pushed along. Eventually, he came back to the hair. It did prompt a slight panic but he pulled through. While the cake did look like a doll, Blake was an extra harsh critic on himself and declared it was only 'Okay'. Finally, at 3am, he was officially done. 'Thanks for hanging in there gang. Happy birthday to the greatest daughter I could imagine,' he added.

I made £5 supermarket cakes look Pinterest-worthy – I swear by a simple hack for a DIY drip & people say it looks ‘epic'

A MOTHER has shared how she made £5 supermarket cakes look Pinterest-worthy. So if you can't afford to splash the cash on a posh birthday cake from a bakery, then you've come to the right place and will need to take notes. Aysha Ijaz, a savvy mum who regularly shares cooking clips on social media, recently demonstrated how she turned two Ms Molly's Chocolate Cakes, which you can buy from Tesco for just £5.25 each, into a stunning drip cake. Posting online, Aysha wrote: 'Make £10 grocery store cake Pinterest -worthy.' To kick off the process, Aysha started by scraping the icing off of the two cakes. She then cut the cakes into smaller circles and used chocolate buttercream to stack them on top of each other. Once this was done, Aysha coated the outside and top of the cake with more of the chocolate buttercream. She then shared her simple hack for the perfect DIY drip and it couldn't be easier. Aysha confirmed that she used melted chocolate, which she applied to the cake using a piping bag, enabling her to get incredibly neat-looking drips. Following this, the foodie used American buttercream to decorate the cake and finished it off with Ferrero Rocher and some gold spray. Aysha confirmed that while she paid £10.50 for both cakes, she spent less than £5 on buttercream and £6 on Ferrero Rocher. As a result, it cost her just £21.50 in total for the jaw-dropping birthday cake. I DIY-ed a 'professional' level kids' birthday cake for less than £25 using Amazon & eBay buys - I didn't bake a thing Not only was the total cost much cheaper than buying a personalised cake from a professional, but we think it looks incredible too. The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @ has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 753,300 views. 19,100 likes and 107 comments. Social media users were impressed with Aysha's DIY birthday cake and many eagerly raced to the comments to express this. One person said: 'Excellent job.' Another added: 'That looks amazing!' A third commented: 'It looks delicious.' How much does a birthday cake cost? The cost of a birthday cake can vary massively depending on where you get it from and how elaborate it is. I asked for a ‘pillar cake' for my kid but they have ruined her birthday… people say it ‘looks like dirty loo roll'

A MUM was left devastated after ordering a pink glittery pillar cake for her teenager's 17th birthday - and what arrived looked like ''a dirty loo roll''. Mum and TikToker @ just_ur_averagehuman had hoped for a personalised pink sparkly cake for her kid's big day. According to the mother, her daughter hadn't ''ask for anything'' apart from this specific cake, as she's currently fixated on pillars. The sweet treat she had requested was an epic Greek pillar, with intricate detailing throughout and topped with edible glitter in pink. However, the mum was left lost for words by the ''dream cake'' that she went to collect later. In a clip on TikTok, the furious mum shared the photo of the cake she had ordered from the bakery - and the one she ended up receiving. Instead of a jaw-dropping cake, the birthday treat looking nothing like the expectations - and was a far cry from the epic pillar she had ordered. The cake was significantly smaller and mainly white, only having speckles of mysterious colour throughout - which also didn't look like edible glitter. The gold-coloured bits matched the golden number 17 attached to the mini pillar in the middle. After showing the disastrous baked treat from all sides, the horrified mum said: ''My God... ''The only thing I can do is cry.'' She went on in the caption: ''They have ruined my child's birthday.'' You can make school cake in the air fryer with just 6 ingredients - it's ready in minutes & perfect for an after-school snack After complaining, the bakery allegedly agreed to fix the cake and issue a refund, the mum shared in a follow-up video. However, whilst the updated cake had pink elements, it was wonky, with some parts falling off. The mother slammed the bakery, writing: ''It was not edible and nope, they have not refunded me. My child is devastated.'' How much does a birthday cake cost? The cost of a birthday cake can vary massively depending on where you get it from and how elaborate it is. One said: ''Why do businesses agree to something they just can't deliver - there's more respect if they tell the truth!'' Someone else chimed in: ''I would refuse to pay for that!!''

I wasn't going to fork out for a professional birthday cake for my son, so made a Minecraft one myself with M&S bargains

WE all want to give our kids a magical birthday, no matter the budget. And one mum has shared how she created a personalised Minecraft cake for her son's birthday without paying a professional. Taking to TikTok, Cara, a mum-of-five, made her own delicious cake for her son's birthday using M&S and Amazon buys. In the clip, she said: "Come DIY my son's Minecraft birthday cake using two cakes from M&S. "I feel absolutely awful but I left it way too last minute to order Noah a birthday cake, then I couldn't get one booked in anywhere so thought I'd go to M&S and do it myself." She said her son was a big chocolate lover so grabbed the M&S chocolate Mini Bite Cake for £20 and the Cookies and Cream cake. She used the cookie flavour cake as the bottom tier and removed the chocolate decorations and moved them to the chocolate cake that would suit on top. To make sure the two cakes were secure, she stuck a few cocktail sticks into the bottom one before placing the other on top. Next, the savvy mum had some Amazon bits to complete the cake and turn it into a Minecraft bonanza that Noah would love. She was able to find a Minecraft logo and happy birthday sign made out of edible rice paper, so cut them out and placed them on top of the cake. Cara also found some Minecraft figurines made of icing and stuck those on top as well. "These are amazing," she said, "And I just popped them all over the cake. 3 You can make school cake in the air fryer with just 6 ingredients - it's ready in minutes & perfect for an after-school snack "Noah is Minecraft obsessed and Steve is his absolute favourite character, so I know he's gonna absolutely love this. The final cake was perfect for her son and the rest of her family to enjoy while celebrating his birthday. Cara added: "I mean it's not the best cake in the world but I know he's gonna absolutely love it and it was literally on a budget." The clip of her DIY cake was shared on her TikTok account @ cara_mamato5 and soon went viral with over 170k views and 2,800 likes.
