Boutique Hotel Milu Milano opens

Hotel Milu Milano, a design-led boutique hotel and the second property in the Milu brand, opened in Milan's Porta Venezia district. Located in an historic 19th century Milanese building — it was formerly the Mercure Milano Centro — the 32-room hotel offers a blend of traditional Milanese architecture and contemporary interiors. Designed by architect and designer Alex Meitlis, the Hotel Milu Milano's renovation included the restoration of the property's central staircase and its original exposed brickwork. There are seven room categories, and all accommodations feature terrazzo flooring, wooden shutters, mirrored walls, colorful glass accents throughout the bathrooms and curated art by Carmel Ilan. Amenities include an all-day lounge serving complimentary wine, coffee, tea and soft drinks.

A New Hotel Near California's Joshua Tree National Park Has 65 Impressive, Steel-frame Units Built to Look Like Shipping Containers

Reset Hotel, a minimalist desert escape just outside Joshua Tree National Park's north entrance, opened on July 21 as the area's first new-build hotel in 15 years. Situated on 180 acres within the town of Twentynine Palms, the boutique hotel is the second high-profile opening in town this year. The project is the result of the partnership between Adam Wininger and architect and product designer Ben Uyeda, who has a popular how-to YouTube series about shipping container houses. Wininger was sold on the potential of steel-frame modular construction after visiting Uyeda in the home he designed and built. The duo was also aligned on why introducing a hotel made sense in a community negatively impacted by the short-term vacation rental boom. "We like to feel that we're helping not only people stay at the park, but it takes some pressure off the housing supply," says Wininger. Reset features 65 guest rooms with discreet fold-down desks (but no TVs), patios, firepits, and outdoor seating. Moonlight Queen rooms—measuring 160 square feet and 320 square feet of patio space—are grouped in pairs within each modular unit. Larger 320-square-foot Mountain King Suites occupy the entire module and boast 500-square-foot patios, complete with outdoor soaking tubs. All accommodations are stocked with Flamingo Estate toiletries and Fellow pour-over coffee stations. The interiors, created in collaboration with branding and design studio Gry Space, are a study in kaleidoscopic neutrals, with rich, earthy textures against the sand and rock-strewn backdrop. Sliding doors open up to private patios in each room, which Wininger says are "designed to be more like the outdoor living room." Stargazing is serious business out here, so guests can pick from either a dedicated platform or lie-flat daybeds. Daybeds lay around the outdoor pool. "Once you get to Reset, you're forced into this moment of pause and to feel the surroundings," adds Whitaker. The on-site restaurant, Split Rock Bistro, is still in the works. When it opens, it will offer all-day food and beverage service with a focus on seasonal fare of locally inspired flavors. Until then, guests can enjoy the expansive scenery from the 1,600-square-foot saltwater pool and Jacuzzi, flanked by cabanas and lounge chairs. Other wellness highlights include a five-person sauna, cold plunge, and yoga classes. The 3,000-square-foot Club House features a co-working space, a boutique, and a communal firepit. "I don't think it's our place to overly dictate what people do. We want to create platforms and opportunities to choose your own relaxation adventure," Uyeda says. Beyond the footprint of Reset, the hotel's grounds encompass over 100 acres of desert to explore and experience rotating art installations. Nightly rates at Reset start from $250, and you can book your stay at

Historic Lake District inn being redeveloped into £3m boutique hotel

A HISTORIC Lake District pub - the highest in Cumbria - in being converted into a boutique hotel. The Kirkstone Pass Inn, which was bought by development company Supreme Escapes in 2021, is currently being refurbished to open as a boutique hotel with pub attached. Supreme Escapes are a company who say they 'specialise in rural and countryside areas, taking semi-derelict buildings and finding new ways of giving them a new lease of life'. They have previously developed a former Church in Cockermouth into a holiday home. Company co-founder Jerry Huppert estimates that Supreme Escapes have so far spent around £3million and are hoping to have a final spend of around £3.25 million. He said: 'We have given the building a new lease of life now for hopefully another 150 years. 'It's an honour to be given such an opportunity and I recommend more developers and investors go down the route of bringing back heritage and dilapidated building in the UK rather than just always jumping on the new builds.' The developer hopes that the Kirkstone Pass Inn will be opened as a boutique hotel by the end of July with the pub element set to follow shortly after. Following news of the redevelopment coming out on social media, the company faced a backlash to the plans with some people fearing the venue would be used for stag and hen parties as well as raising concerns about the loss of character of the building. However Mr Huppert said that rumours of the pub being turned into a venue for stag and hen parties were 'unsubstantiated' and that those who are speaking out now against the plans should have supported the pub before it was allowed to have become semi-derelict. 'The way I look at it is something is happening, someone went and invested in a place that was going down, if the place was flourishing then the people wouldn't have sold it", said Mr Huppert. 'All the comments of 'we have just loss this', 'we have just lost that', this asset wasn't supported. 'The question is not should we have been allowed to come and do what we did, the question is why did the locals and whoever has bad feelings about what we have done, where has their support been all these years prior, it's easier to come back in hindsight.'

To Avoid the Day-Trippers at the Palace of Versailles, Book a Night in Town

I arrived in Versailles just after midnight and, stepping out of a taxi, I looked up at the eerily quiet palace at the town's heart. It could have been a night in 1789 during the French Revolution, after a Parisian mob had escorted the royal family off the palace grounds. Across the street, I entered Les Lumières, a pair of 17th-century mansions converted into a boutique hotel. A doorman whisked my bag through splendid hallways, past a grand staircase and beneath glittering chandeliers to an ornate chamber. It was a suitably theatrical introduction to a stay in Versailles, known to most travelers for the extraordinary Palace of Versailles. Years before, I'd joined the armies of day-trippers on the 15-minute train ride from Paris, and fought alongside them through the 2,300-room estate, which sees almost as many visitors as the Louvre. But, recently, a friend from Versailles, a community of around 83,000 people, had suggested I stay overnight for a calmer, more immersive experience.
