National Museum's summer programme to boost creativity and cultural identity

Muscat: The National Museum launched the 'Our Summer: Heritage and Identity' programme, organised by the museum's Learning Centre, with support from bp Oman, to enhance participating students' awareness of national identity and consolidate the values of Omani cultural heritage. The summer programme targets three age groups: children (6 to 11 years old), school students (12 to 16 years old), and college and university students. During the current month of July, a number of artistic and interactive sessions inspired by the National Museum's collections will be implemented to contribute to developing the participants' skills and stimulating their creative abilities. Amina bint Abdullah Al Abri, Head of the Learning Centre at the National Museum, explained that the 'Our Summer: Heritage and Identity' programme is one of the annual initiatives the Learning Centre is keen to implement, aiming to instill the values of national identity and strengthen young people's connection to their cultural heritage through a creative and experimental approach that embodies the intersection of art and heritage. She pointed out that the National Museum is participating in the "Our Summer: Leadership and Creativity" programme in North Al Batinah Governorate, in cooperation with the Governor's Office, from July 6 to 10, 2025, through a group of artistic sessions organised by the Learning Centre within the framework of the Community Awareness Programme and the Children's Literature Reading Series Programme, and includes various fields, such as colouring, traditional architecture, and the history of Omani maritime navigation. She stated that the programme aims to instill national identity in the new generation through artistic educational methods that combine enjoyment and knowledge, as part of the National Museum's efforts to enhance its presence outside its premises and convey its cultural message, contributing to consolidating the values of national identity and heritage. The summer programme in North Al Batinah is held in a number of governorate's wilayats, namely: Sohar, Liwa, Shinas, Saham, Al Khabourah, and Suwaiq, to include (240) beneficiaries, while the Learning Centre implements the activities of the first programme at the headquarters of the National Museum for the age group (6-11 years) during the period from July 6-10, while the second and third programmes are implemented in the Learning Centre corner in Al Mouj Muscat, for the category of school students (12-16 years) and college and university students, respectively from (July 13-17) and from (July 20-24), to include (260) beneficiaries. It is worth noting that the Learning Centre at the National Museum is the first of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman. It is equipped according to the highest international standards and offers various educational programmes aimed at raising public awareness about Omani heritage, including: the School Visits Programme, the Colleges and Universities Programme, the Family Programme, the Community Awareness Programme, the Continuing Education Programme, the People with Disabilities Programme, and the Children's Literature Reading Series Programme. These programmes generate increased interest among all visitor categories in Oman's rich history.

bp Oman and Green Universe Enterprise complete the first Drone Training

Green Universe Enterprise, in partnership with bp Oman, held a graduation ceremony for 30 Omani Youth, celebrating the successful completion of the Youth Wings Workshop programme. It aims to deliver the first drone training initiative of its kind for young Omanis, to help develop their skills in drone technology, regulations and operations. This supports employability in the field of drone inspection, create new freelancing opportunities and enhance their ability to compete in the labour market in this field. Participants came from diverse technical backgrounds reflecting Oman's next generation potential in green technology and 47% of the trainees being female showing diversity and inclusion. Over 6 weeks, the programme immersed graduates in a focused learning experience combining both theoretical and practical training. The practical component was delivered in Wadi Al Abyad, Jabal Akhdhar and other locations focused on flight simulations, basic and advanced outdoor flight, and missions simulating realistic scenarios. The training was concluded with participants completing group projects that demonstrated their understanding of the techniques they had learned. The Green Universe Enterprise team conducted performance assessments of the participants to select the top five graduates to advance to the second phase of the programme, which will include career guidance and mentorship, support, resources and obtaining necessary licenses to work as independent drone specialists. Eng. Sumaya Al Rawahi, Founder and CEO of Green Universe Enterprise, commented: 'This programme wasn't just about flying drones and data processing—it was a window for gaining advanced technology and opened new horizons for the participants to gain experience in the field. For many, this was their first hands-on experience using drones in real-world projects, and it was a journey filled with passion, exploration, entrepreneurial spirit, and self-confidence. This experience reinforced their true desire to continue working contributing to Oman's economy.' Ibrahim Al Hinai, Social investment manager at bp Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar, added, 'This programme empowers Omani job seekers with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the growing field of innovative drone technology, while emphasising safe drone usage. The programme not only teaches drone technology, but promotes employment opportunities by providing the necessary certifications in the field of drone inspection. Oman's SailFree Para Sailing Team Triumphs at Hansa UK National Championship

Muscat: Oman Sail's SailFree national para sailing team, which comes as part of the SailFreeprogramme, in partnership with bp Oman, has achieved remarkable success at the Hansa UK National Championship in Weymouth, securing 2nd and 3rd placements on the podium against international competition. The SailFree squad demonstrated exceptional skill with Ali Said Al Ghusaini and Sami Salim Al Sulaimi claiming second place, while Hasan Haidar Al Lawati and Adil Salim Al Siyabi earned third place honors. Four Omani crews participated in the event, including Sultan Mohammed Al Wahaibi, AlMuthana Hamed Al Maamari, Zaher Khalfan Al Atbi, and Raiyan Abdullah Al Mujaini, showcasing the nation's growing para sailing talent. The team was led by Nasser Salim Al Maashari, with coaching support from Haitham Saif Al Wahaibi and Akram Adaiyam Al Wahaibi. Khamis Al Anbori, Acting Commercial Director of Oman Sail commented: "This outstanding performance reflects the dedication of our sailors and the strength of our development programme. These athletes continue to prove that sailing is a sport for all, and we're proud to see them representing Oman on the international stage." It is worth noting that the SailFree team will compete in several major events including the Oman Sailing Championship, Mussanah Race Weekand the inaugural World Sailing Inclusion Championships. Oman Sail, bp Oman launch SailFree programme

MUSCAT: Oman Sail in partnership with bp Oman have launched the second edition of SailFree, the region's first para sailing programme designed to empower people with disabilities through the sport of sailing. The programme will be delivered in three phases to support 100 young people with disabilities at Oman Sail's Mussanah Sailing School and Al Mouj Sailing School, with 20 advancing to form the 15-18 national youth sailing team. Khamis al Anbouri, Oman Sail's Acting Commercial Director, said, 'We are very pleased to renew SailFree for a second edition and provide more opportunities for young people with disabilities. The programme has proven that sailing can have a long-term positive impact on the lives of people with disabilities and unlock valuable life skills through learning, teamwork and participation. We are looking forward to introducing 100 young people to the sport and showing that sailing is a sport for all.' Ibrahim al Hinai, Social investment manager at bp Oman, Kuwait and Qatar, commented: 'The achievements of the SailFree programme is remarkable, whereby the first edition of this programme, launched in 2019, benefitted 110 people with disabilities and formed the first parasailing national team consisting of 25 exceptional members that competed in approximately 10 international and local competitions representing Oman. We are incredibly proud to continue investing in the community by supporting such a valuable initiative.' SailFree has provided the framework for people with no prior sailing experience to learn, develop and compete internationally and the SailFree team is currently in training ahead of regattas at home and abroad. Beginning with the UK Hansa Class Championship from June 13-15 in Weymouth, UK, then returning to Oman for the Oman Sailing Championship from August 17-21 and Mussanah Race Week from October 16-22.

bp Oman and Tech Space Conclude the 'Smoothy' Coding Programme

Muscat: In partnership with bp Oman, Tech Space concluded the 'Smoothy' coding programme, which aimed to teach foundational programming skills to early-grade students. The programme benefited 270 students from grades 3 and 4 during the 2024/2025 academic year, across 10 schools in Muscat Governorate. It focused on introducing children to programming at an early age, encouraging them to use technology to develop creative projects, and fostering their personal and cognitive skills. The first phase of the programme involved training 13 teachers from the participating schools on the Smoothy curriculum. This enabled them to deliver coding lessons in classrooms during the second phase. Students learned the basics of programming in a fun and interactive way that fostered creativity and logical thinking, using the specially designed Smoothy language through the HelloCode platform. This approach helped prepare them to understand more advanced programming languages in the future. The third and final phase included on-site school visits to evaluate and showcase the students' projects. Ibrahim Al Hinai, Social Investment Manager at bp Oman, Qatar and Kuwait, commented: 'We are proud to contribute to empowering our students and equipping them with modern programming and tech skills. The students demonstrated impressive abilities, creating innovative solutions through coding. Over 1,076 creative projects were developed, and 2,853 coding challenges were solved. We remain committed to supporting young talents in building the future.' Eman Al Rawahi, CEO of Tech Space, stated: "This programme successfully achieved its intended goals as a foundational coding initiative for early-grade students. It promoted critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and the students impressed us with their creative programming projects, which reflected their ability to express ideas and innovations through code. We are very proud of the level these young coders have reached."
