Eight passengers seriously injured after Golden Arrow bus petrol bombed in Cape Town
Eight passengers were seriously injured when a Golden Arrow Bus Services (GABS) bus was petrol bombed near Duinefontein and Govan Mbeki Roads in Gugulethu, in the early hours of Monday. GABS spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyer said reports from the scene suggested that the attackers used 'darkness and the homes around them' as cover. 'Eight passengers were injured in the attack and are receiving medical attention. The fire was extinguished quickly by law enforcement and traffic services,' she added. GABS condemned the attack. 'These attacks are callous and extremely dangerous and cannot simply be accepted as the norm,' Dyke-Beyer added. Their comment will be added once received.

The overnight attacks occurred in the Zhob and Loralai districts of Balochistan province as the buses traveled from the provincial capital, Quetta, to Punjab province, district administrator Saadat Husain said Friday. The attackers fled the scene and a search is underway to track down the assailants. Authorities recovered the bodies along the highway, Husain said. Ashfaq Chaudhry, an administrator in Punjab's Dera Ghazi Khan district, said the attackers appeared to target passengers from Punjab specifically. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the abduction and killings of the bus passengers. Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari issued a statement condemning the 'brutal killing of passengers' in Balochistan. He blamed the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army for the deaths and said the group wanted to 'spread chaos and instability in Pakistan.' The BLA killed 23 passengers in Balochistan in a similar attack last year. However, the militant group issued a statement saying on Thursday night it was engaged in an attack on a military camp in Balochistan's Surab district, far away from the areas of the bus attacks. Baluchistan has been the scene of a long-running insurgency in southwestern Pakistan with an array of separatist groups, including the BLA, demanding independence from Pakistan's central government in Islamabad. The groups have staged attacks mainly targeting security forces and people from Punjab who travel to Balochistan for business or employment. Although Pakistani authorities say they have quelled the insurgency, violence in the province has persisted. Disturbing footage has captured the moment a Brisbane bus driver was brutally attacked by a passenger. Footage captured the moment a bus driver was repeatedly punched by a man on a busy bus. The video, shared to social media overnight, shows a man appearing to briefly get off the bus before going back to land a final punch. A Queensland Police spokesperson told NewsWire an incident on a bus shortly after 6pm on Friday night in Southbank was being investigated. The matter was reported to police on Saturday afternoon, the spokesperson said. Footage captures the moment a Brisbane bus driver was brutally attacked by a passenger. 'No one deserves to face violence in their workplace, especially from a single individual whose reckless actions endangered the safety of everyone on board,' Mr Schrinner wrote. 'My thoughts are with the bus driver who was subjected to this appalling and completely unacceptable attack while simply doing his job.' Mr Schrinner added Brisbane was a 'friendly city' where everyone deserved to feel safe. 'While we have strong safety protections for our bus drivers, we shouldn't need them which is why we continue to stand up for Brisbane against crime to keep our community safe,' he said. The video was circulated across social media over the weekend, with many labelling the conduct 'unacceptable'. 'No one helps him … feeling really bad after seeing this video,' one person commented. 'Bloody disgrace. Get in there and help him,' another said. Anyone with information or footage has been urged to contact police. The PNG National reported the passengers were chased off the bus and the attackers stole valuable items. One passenger said someone stoned the bus and the driver lost control, and then others who were hiding in the bushes came out and robbed them. Acting assistant police commissioner, National Capital District and Central, Benjamin Turi said police had already issued warnings for people to take precautions when traveling up and down the highway. The Governor of the Northern Marianas has laid out his administration's economic recovery plans, urging for unity as the CNMI navigates a challenging but improving fiscal landscape. Governor Arnold Palacios also highlighted key accomplishments during his first State of the Commonwealth Address. He said while the CNMI continues to face challenges, its also seeing signs of growth and resilience. Governor Palacios noted that the new 300 business registrations are signs of recovery and confidence. In the past 12 months, a number of big businesses have closed shop or left the CNMI, and a number of Asian airlines have stopped flying there. Access to reliable electricity across the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) is now on the cards. The FSM has some of the lowest electricity access rates in the Pacific, particularly in Chuuk State, where two-thirds of households lack power. A new project to be implemented by the government, with financing and technical support from the World Bank, will mean thousands of families will benefit from better, more reliable electricity. The US$42 million project will increase access to electricity for over 3,500 people in remote outer islands, while improving the reliability of existing power supply and supporting the increase in renewable energy across FSM's four states: Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap. Fifty new projects have been announced under the Solomon Islands - Australia Community Partnerships. The Australian High Commission said the projects represent more than 11 million Solomon Islander dollars (US$1.9 million) in direct funding to businesses and communities. The projects include the installation of solar powered streetlights, the construction of new classrooms, upgrades to rural health clinics, and the provision of community water tanks. The Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands Rod Hilton said the initiatives will deliver practical benefits to communities, while also supporting local businesses and jobs. Fiji Airways managing director and chief executive officer, Andre Viljoen, is stepping down in October this year. Fiji Airways chairperson, Nalin Patel said Viljoen has accepted the position of CEO at Air Mauritius and will be returning home after a decade of exceptional leadership in Fiji. Patel said under his stewardship, Fiji Airways' annual revenue has grown significantly, from FJ$815.3 million in 2015 to $1.9 billion in 2024. He said Viljoen will remain on the board of directors after his transition. Samoa has marked its 63rd independence day celebrating achieving sovereignty in 1962. Festivities commenced on Sunday with a thanksgiving service at the Catholic cathedral in Mulivai. On Monday, Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa raised the national flag outside the government building in Apia. Additional celebrations are taking place throughout the week.
