Egypt: Badawi inspects SCADA system for butane gas monitoring at Petrogas

Arab Finance: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has inspected the butane gas circulation monitoring project, which uses the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, at Petroleum Gas Company (Petrogas), according to a statement. The inspection tour comes after the system's full rollout across all company sites nationwide. During his visit, Badawi stressed the importance of implementing the SCADA system for butane gas, depicting it as a strategic and vital commodity that citizens use in their daily lives. The minister also highlighted the need to coordinate with relevant authorities to ensure that butane cylinders reach citizens at approved standard weights. Both the Ministry of Petroleum and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) stand ready to provide all necessary support to advance the sustainable development of the butane circulation and distribution network, ensuring safe and reliable delivery to citizens. Mohamed Ibrahim Farhat, Chairman of Petrogas, noted that the SCADA project enables real-time tracking of butane stock levels across all company locations nationwide, linking them directly to the petroleum products transportation and circulation monitoring center at EGPC. The SCADA system deploys the latest digital transformation technologies to monitor distributed quantities and streamline workflows across the sector, added Farhat. He also outlined the company's digital transformation roadmap for butane systems extending through 2028. The roadmap includes major projects, such as the tank gauging system for measuring butane stock in storage tanks, a fleet monitoring and management system for tanker trucks, and a data management system for butane cylinder filling equipment.. © 2020-2023 Arab Finance For Information Technology. Aramco cuts July propane, butane prices amid market shifts

RIYADH: Saudi Aramco has lowered its official selling prices for propane and butane for July 2025, reflecting changing global market dynamics. In a statement released on Sunday, the oil giant set propane at $575 per tonne and butane at $545 per tonne—both down $25 from the previous month. The adjustment continues a downward trend driven by evolving supply-demand conditions. Propane and butane, classified as liquefied petroleum gases, are essential fuels for heating, transport, and petrochemical production. Aramco's monthly pricing serves as a key benchmark for LPG shipments from the Middle East to the Asia Pacific. The global LPG market is undergoing a reshuffle as China shifts away from US imports due to steep tariffs, increasingly turning to Middle Eastern suppliers. In turn, American cargoes are being rerouted to Europe and other parts of Asia. This realignment is putting pressure on global LPG prices and weakening demand for US shale byproducts, impacting both American shale producers and Chinese petrochemical firms. Meanwhile, the trend is spurring greater interest in alternative feedstocks like naphtha. Middle Eastern exporters are benefiting from the shift, stepping in to fill the gap left by falling US exports to China. Buyers in Asia, including Japan and India, are also taking advantage of the softer prices to strike more favorable supply deals.

Gas canisters found in house explosion wreckage

A large number of gas canisters have been found in the wreckage of a house following an explosion which left two men critically injured. Emergency services were called to reports of a blast at a terraced house in Coventry Street, Halifax, in the early hours of Thursday, followed by a series of smaller bangs. West Yorkshire Police said a "large number" of butane gas containers had been found at the property, adding that it expected there to be "speculation in the community" about the cause. Northern Gas Network, who also attended on Thursday, said the incident was "not suspected to be related to our network". Det Ch Insp Clare Smith said: "We understand that there will be speculation in the community about what has happened and the cause of this explosion. "We can confirm that a large number of butane gas cannisters were found in the property and these form part of our ongoing enquiries. "We are working alongside specialist fire investigators to ensure a comprehensive investigation is carried out into this incident." Northern Gas Networks said it had disconnected the gas supply to 14 properties in the area at the request of emergency services. It added: "We are working closely with the emergency services to support the incident, which is not suspected to be related to our network." CCTV footage from a nearby house captured the explosion before people could be seen running from their homes and shouting "get out of the house". Police confirmed the two critically hurt men, who had been in the same house, remained in hospital. A third person received treatment for minor injuries at the scene. House 'containing hundreds of butane gas canisters' is destroyed in huge explosion that 'sounded like a nuclear bomb going off' - as two people are taken to hospital with serious injuries

Two people have been seriously injured after a house was destroyed in an explosion that sounded 'like a nuclear bomb going off' - with hundreds of butane gas canisters pictured in the wreckage. The blast in Spring Hall Grove, Halifax, West Yorkshire, happened just after midnight on Thursday. CCTV showed a large explosion, followed by dozens of smaller bangs, with people coming out into the street and shouting: 'Everyone get out of the house.' The blast appeared to have ripped the roof off at least one home, sending debris into the street. Videos showed fire leaping from the roof and a series of smaller explosions lasting several minutes. West Yorkshire Police said 14 homes were evacuated and two people were seriously injured, with a third requiring treatment for minor injuries. One man, who asked not to be identified, lives around 20 metres from the blast. He said: 'It was like a nuclear bomb going off. Everyone was screaming "get out of the house". 'I got my kids out and we went in the back. There's bricks and tiles in the street, all the cars are dented, and there are butane gas canisters in the street. 'There was a family with children living next door to the house and a middle-aged woman with a dog. 'Our house was shaking and could feel the whole thing tremble when the first bang went off. 'I looked outside and there was fire everywhere.' Photographs from the scene on Friday show hundreds of gas canisters which appeared to have been stored in an upstairs room. Sheena Bashir was woken up by the blast which happened less than a minute's walk from her home. She said: 'It was so unreal, you see stuff like that in the movies, not round here. 'I was asleep and then I heard something like a bomb had gone off. I looked out of the window and could see the house was absolutely lit.' While Mrs Bashir was on the phone to the emergency services smaller bangs after the initial blast could be heard. She said: 'There was one big bang and a lot of smaller ones.' West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: 'We sent five crews, plus the technical rescue and command unit. 'The explosion had affected six houses. Crews used large jets and an aerial ladder to extinguish the fire. 'Three people were taken to hospital.' West Yorkshire Police said: 'Officers at the scene assisted with closing the road and evacuating the occupants of 14 houses. 'Two people from one property were taken to hospital with serious injuries and a third person, from another property, has received treatment for minor injuries. 'The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.'
