Galway prove too strong for Tipperary to book place in All-Ireland camogie decider
All-Ireland camogie semi-final: Galway 1-18 Tipperary 1-11 A brilliant goal in the 39th minute by Niamh Mallon was the key score as Galway returned to the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland senior camogie final with a deserved victory over Tipperary . The westerners were the better side but they certainly did not have things their own way. Tipp fought right to the end and it took a sensational block by the outstanding Dervla Higgins to deny Jean Kelly a goal that might have made it nervy. But there was no questioning the merit of Galway's win, with Higgins, Shauna Healy and Róisín Black forming a most obdurate full-back line that provided the platform for the triumph. Up front, Mallon's goal might have earned the plaudits but Ailish O'Reilly, who is in pursuit of a fourth All-Ireland medal, contributed four points as well as drilling a wonderful pass to Mallon for the definitive major. READ MORE It was a strange sort of a game and when Mallon pointed off the stick via Laura Leenane's hurley in the 25th minute, Galway seemed to be moving inexorably towards a Croke Park return. They were 0-8 to 0-2 in front, full value for that, and there seemed a real danger of the game drifting to an inevitable conclusion. Neither side had excelled and even with their eight points, Galway shot some poor wides. But Tipp were particularly disjointed and wasteful from the few good positions they had created. When the lost Karin Blair with what looked like symptoms of concussion at the end of the first quarter, it only added to the sense of doom. But a shot by Karen Kennedy in the 26th minute was miscontrolled uncharacteristically to the net by Sarah Healy. The leaders were suddenly shaken and the Premier County were shaken from their torpor. The result was that somehow they went in level at the break, 0-9 to 1-6 and all the momentum with Denis Kelly's side. Casey Heffernan and Eimear Heffernan pointed and Grace O'Brien brought her tally to four from placed balls. The interval probably came at the wrong time for them, while Cathal Murray welcomed the opportunity to recalibrate. All the evidence after the resumption was that the Galway players had recovered their composure but Tipp would thankfully not return to their early ineptitude. But once O'Reilly placed Mallon, who carried to the edge of the square before firing a rocket to the far corner of the Tipp net, the Tribeswomen were able to keep their valiant opponents at arm's length. Kelly followed a pointed free by O'Brien with a smart score to keep Tipp interested. Mairéad Dillon added to her first-half brace, however, and was promptly hauled ashore, Sabina Rabbitte having been stripped and ready to go, and the Athenry attacker justified the decision by splitting the posts within seconds. There would be no way back for Tipp from there. GALWAY: Sarah Healy; Shauna Healy, R Black, D Higgins; R Hanniffy, A Starr, E Helebert; C Dolan (0-6, 4f), A Donohue; O Rabbitte, A O'Reilly (0-4), C Hickey; N Mallon (1-2), M Dillon (0-3), C Kelly (0-2). Coulter and McCormick step down as Antrim camogie bosses
Antrim are seeking new camogie management as it was confirmed on Monday that joint-bosses Carl McCormick and Martin Coulter have stepped down after two years in charge. McCormick stepped into the role during a turbulent 2024, as Brian Kearney and Mark McFadden resigned prior to the start of the league. Last year, Antrim lost their All-Ireland senior status but did retain their place in Division 1B of the league. McCormick and Coulter were then ratified for 2025, and the Saffrons enjoyed an upturn in fortunes, winning Division 1B and retaining their Ulster crown, but would come up one point short in last weekend's All-Ireland intermediate semi-final against Offaly. "After our Senior management's decision to step down at the end of a two-year run, Antrim Camogie would like to thank Carl and Martin and their backroom team of Joey, Cormac, Eleanor and Eimear for their tremendous commitment and hard work over the past two seasons," read a statement from Antrim Camogie. "We thank them for leaving the Saffron jersey in a marvellous place, having won back-to-back Ulster senior titles and winning Division 1B earlier this season, securing our place in the top flight leagues next year." Antrim enjoyed a flying start to the year, winning all of their group games in 1B before a 3-10 to 1-11 victory over Clare in the final to seal promotion into the top flight. That was followed by a 2-17 to 1-11 provincial final win over Derry and in the Intermediate championship group phase, they scored victories over Meath and Westmeath before edging out Offaly by two points to top Group 1 and maintain their 100% record for the year. However, the Faithful would turn the tables in Newbridge on 12 July with a 1-16 to 2-12 win, which would see them into the final and end Antrim's season with McCormick and Coulter subsequently informing the county board on Sunday of their decision to stand down.

Tipperary turn the tide against Kilkenny to set up Galway rematch
All-Ireland senior camogie quarter-final AET: Tipperary 1-22 Kilkenny 0-19 Tipperary are headed to the last four of the All-Ireland senior camogie championship, where they will play Galway in a repeat of last year's dramatic semi-final clash, after two crucial plays in the space of 60 seconds midway through extra-time turned a tense quarter-final battle with Kilkenny their way. With the first half of extra-time expiring, a high ball from Laura Murphy dropped just outside the Tipp box. As Caoimhe Keher Murtagh hit the deck, referee Ray Kelly blew for a penalty to discount Keher Murtagh's one-handed sweep which had sent the sliotar to the net. Aoife Prendergast's penalty was on target, but Laura Leenane read the strike, diving left and low to make the block. On the next attack Clodagh McIntyre, who had been replaced in the second half but was reintroduced for extra time, took possession and exploded through a tackle to bear down on goal. Her thunderous shot to the roof of the Kilkenny net but Tipp 1-19 to 0-19 ahead. When Eimear Hefferan started the second half of extra time with a sensational strike for a point, Tipp were well on their way back to an All-Ireland semi-final. READ MORE Kilkenny Laura Murphy goes for a high ball challenged by Tipperary's Caoimhe McCarthy. Photograph: Leah Scholes/Inpho The key moment during normal time was another goalmouth incident midway through the second half, when Tipperary showed their survival instinct to preserve their goal when the contest was finely poised. Katie Power's pass to Keher Murtagh set the Rower Inistíoge attacker through on goal, but she couldn't quite get clear of Mairead Eviston, who came up with a crucial block from 10 metres out. Maria Brennan dropping deep left Eviston as a free operator at the other end, but Kilkenny's excellent use of the ball, allied to some outstanding play from Murphy and Katie Power along the spine of the attack, seemed to give them an edge. The two attackers were imperious, scoring 0-4 and 0-3 from play respectively in the opening half as Kilkenny struck 10 points from 10 shots. Not that Tipperary were wasteful either, with just two wides in the first half-hour, but they found it harder to keep the ball out of Brennan's sphere of influence. It was only two excellent points from Caoimhe McCarthy on her forays forward that kept them within range, trailing 0-10 to 0-8 at the interval. Kilkenny's Aobha O'Gorman blocks a shot from Tipperary's Caoimhe McCarthy. Photograph: Leah Scholes/Inpho The shift in momentum at the break was subtle. While Murphy remained influential, McCarthy took a greater hold of that individual battle; and every bit as significant was the switch of Casey Hennessy to midfield. Freed from the shackles of a strong marking display by Tiffanie Fitzgerald, Hennessy had a fresh lease of life and hit three points from her new berth, as well as creating several more chances. Her point opened the scoring in the second half after an excellent give-and-go saw her attack the centre of defence, and by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, the introduction of Jean Kelly added an extra dimension to the attack. Points from Kelly and McCarthy seemed to put Tipp in the driving seat, but the maturation of this Kilkenny team has been one of the stories of the championship, and it fell to Sarah Barcoe and Murphy to split the posts in the closing minutes and send the contest through to extra time. When Prendergast hit the first three points of extra time, the Leinster champions had a home semi-final in a fortnight in their grasp, but that was all to change in the space of one very consequential minute. TIPPERARY: L Leenane; M Eviston, K Blair, E Loughman; N Costigan, C McCarthy (0-3), S Corcoran; K Kennedy, C Maher (0-1); R Howard (0-1), M Burke (0-1), E Heffernan; C McIntyre (1-0), C Hennessy (0-4), G O'Brien (0-9, 0-8f). Subs: J Bourke for Costigan (23 mins); J Kelly (0-3) for Burke (46); L Purcell for McIntyre (48); N Cunneen for Howard (60+2); McIntyre for Purcell (f-t); Howard for Heffernan, E Cunneen for Hennessy (both 79). KILKENNY: A Norris; M Teehan, T Fitzgerald, D Quigley; K Doyle, N Deely, C Dowling; A O'Gorman, L Greene (0-2); S Fitzgerald, L Murphy (0-5), M O'Connell; A Prendergast (0-7, 0-4f), K Power (0-4), M Brennan. Subs: C Keher Murtagh for O'Connell (h-t); S Barcoe (0-1) for O'Gorman (50 mins); S Holden for Doyle (58); K Nolan for Brennan (67); S O'Dwyer for Power (74). Referee: R Kelly (Kildare). All-Ireland semi-final draw: Cork v Waterford Galway v Tipperary *to be played on Saturday, July 26th at Nowlan Park

Niamh Rockett digs Waterford out after early Banner blitz to reach All-Ireland semi-final
All-Ireland senior camogie quarter-final: Waterford 2-20 Clare 2-10 Seventeen years after making her intercounty debut, Niamh Rockett scored 1-11 and kept her dream of completing what would be a sensational premier junior, intermediate and senior grand slam alive as Waterford survived the most searching of tests before stretching away to a 10-point victory in a pulsating All-Ireland senior camogie quarter-final against Clare. At the other end of the field, Vikki Falconer marked her return to Croke Park two years after buckling in the early minutes of the All-Ireland final with what proved to be a cruciate knee ligament injury, by providing an imperious defending display. Falconer was given a bit of trouble early on by Róisín Begley, but by the second half, she was emerging from every ruck going with the sliotar, carrying, finding a team-mate, returning to base camp. Rinse. Repeat. Don't be fooled by the margin though. This was a deficit that was harsh on Clare, even if Waterford could have had three or four goals in the first half. READ MORE That they didn't was down to the goalkeeping of Rachael Daly, who dived full length to save a Beth Carton penalty and made another stop on the industrious Máiréad O'Brien, while Abby Flynn was denied by some last-ditch defending by Susan Daly and Clare Hehir, and Sinéad O'Keeffe put her body on the line to deny Flynn another chance. Clare's Aoife Anderson tackles Waterford's Mairead O'Brien. Photograph: Leah Scholes/Inpho The Dalys were joined in defence by their triplet sibling Lynda, who recovered from a first-half injury to play well, while their younger sister Jennifer was a constant threat, scoring two points. Áine O'Loughlin pounced for two goals in the first half, the first an absolute piledriver in the 15th minute after Begley found her peeling off Kate Lynch. Eight minutes later, she got her hand to a low ball, turning to send a shot in off the far post. Their work rate had Waterford struggling to get out of defence and make any real inroads up top. Annie Fitzgerald and Flynn were largely clinical when opportunities presented themselves, while Flynn and Rockett combined well for a couple of scores. It looked like hard work for the Déise but a turnover deep in injury time created a two-on-one. When Flynn fed Fitzgerald, the Gaill Tír dynamo made no mistake from close range to give Waterford a 1-11 to 2-5 lead. By now, Mick Boland had moved Keeley Corbett Barry back on O'Loughlin, with Lynch sitting in front. Áine O'Loughlin celebrates a goal for Clare. Photograph: Tom O'Hanlon/Inpho Clare introduced Ellen Casey at the end of the third quarter and the Newmarket-on-Fergus woman had a shot from a free well saved by Brianna O'Regan. O'Loughlin continued to cause trouble but by hook, and perhaps sometimes by crook, Waterford kept the Banner skipper at bay. Waterford captain Lorraine Bray got more into the game towards the finish with a couple of points, one of which was a solid goal chance. Clare Hehir lofted three frees over the bar from distance for the Banner and it was still all to play for when Rockett exchanged passes with sub Maggie Gostl to goal in the 55th minute. The St Anne's sharpshooter had to stretch but just beat the advancing Rachael Daly to flick to the net and put eight between the counties. Points from Rockett and Fitzgerald, who blazed just over after somehow working her way in from the endline, made it a double-figure margin, which will have fooled nobody, but for Waterford the key was ensuring a third semi-final appearance in four seasons.
