5 teens suspected in violent crime spree across Pittsburgh region arrested, police say
The five teenagers suspected of being behind a violent crime spree across Allegheny County over the last 48 hours have been arrested, police said. Five teens ranging from 15 years old to 17 years old are allegedly involved in the crime spree. 5 teens charged in carjacking According to the criminal complaint, the five boys led police on a chase that ended on the West End Bridge after their vehicle hit a jersey barrier on Friday morning. Three of the boys are then accused of running, and guns were allegedly ditched. All five were later taken into custody, officials said. Police, according to the criminal complaint, recovered multiple guns. Some were found near Rivers Casino after appearing to be thrown from the bridge, authorities said. One gun recovered was an "AR style pistol," according to court documents. The chase started after police say a woman reported being robbed at gunpoint. They took her Honda on Faust Street in the city's Sheraden neighborhood. She told police the teens had a rifle with them, officials said. They will be charged as adults in the alleged carjacking. The five teens are also under investigation for numerous separate carjackings, armed robberies and violent weapons offenses across the Pittsburgh area over the past 48 hours. One of the suspects, Aaron Reddix, was also arrested in connection with a triple shooting in Clairton last year. He was taken into custody in March, accused of shooting three teenage boys at a party in November 2024. Court records show he was initially denied bail, but it was changed to non-monetary bail in April.

Man on statutory release for manslaughter among 2 suspects charged in Burlington gunpoint carjacking
Guns and ammunition seized in connection with a carjacking investigation in Burlington. (Halton Regional Police) A man out on statutory release for manslaughter is among the two people charged in connection with a gunpoint carjacking of a luxury vehicle in Burlington this week. Halton Regional Police said a woman was driving her Porsche Macan near Guelph Line and Derry Road around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday when she observed a grey Chevrolet pickup truck following her. She pulled into the parking lot of Kilbride Public School, where two masked men got out of the pickup and pointed their handguns at her, police said. The woman exited her Porsche and surrendered the vehicle. The suspects took the vehicle and drove it away in tandem with the pickup. Police said the victim was not injured. Officers responded, and an hour later, they located the Porsche abandoned and unoccupied in the parking lot near Tobyn and Kilmer drives. They later found the pickup truck nearby, police said. The two suspects were subsequently identified, and on Thursday, police located them in the area of Walkers Line and Kilmer Drive. One suspect was quickly apprehended, while the other fled in a Volkswagen SUV. However, police shortly tracked the vehicle in Sherwood Forest Park and arrested the second suspect. They have been identified as 33-year-old James Garthwaite from Burlington and 32-year-old William Langdon from Oakville. Investigators searched the pickup truck and a Burlington residence, where they allegedly found items of evidentiary value, including a 3D printer, 3D printed firearms and a vehicle reprogramming device. They also determined that the pickup was stolen out of the Niagara Region. Both men are facing a combined 20 charges, including robbery with a firearm, motor vehicle theft when violence is used, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and disguise with intent. 'I cannot imagine the fear experienced by the victim during this violent and terrifying armed carjacking. On behalf of the Halton Regional Police Service, I extend my thoughts to her and her family during this incredibly traumatic time,' Halton police Chief Stephen Tanner said in a statement. 'I am deeply concerned by the escalating level of violence and the use of loaded firearms in the commission of these crimes. Let me be perfectly clear—this type of criminal behaviour will not be tolerated in our community. If convicted, I am hopeful the courts will impose substantial sentences that reflect the serious and dangerous nature of these offences.' Police said at the time of their arrests, Garthwaite was on federal statutory release. He was convicted of manslaughter in 2018 for a shooting during a home invasion that left a woman dead. 'He was sentenced to 10 years but released early after receiving 16 months of credit for pre-sentence custody,' Tanner said. Meanwhile, Langdon was on a form of release for unrelated firearms offences. Police said there is an ongoing investigation into the 3D-printed firearms that could result in more charges. Police dog injured during search Freddy Halton police dog Freddy is seen in this undated photo. (Supplied) During the post-arrest article search in Sherwood Forest Park, Halton police dog Freddy came in contact with a loaded firearm that Langdon allegedly discarded. 'The firearm was located in an area of heavy brush and discharged, resulting in Freddy sustaining an injury to his foot,' police said. Freddy was treated and is expected to make a full recovery. 'We are appreciative of the collective efforts and collaboration of many internal and external personnel who worked tirelessly, quickly and effectively to get violent offenders and several firearms off our streets. We are equally grateful for our tenacious PSD Freddy and look forward to his full recovery,' Supt. Dave Costantini of 3 District Burlington said.

Maryland 14-year-old repeat offender was on GPS monitoring while arrested for crime spree
Baltimore police arrested a 14-year-old repeat offender for a violent crime spree in Northeast Baltimore on Sunday, June 22. WJZ learned the teenager was on GPS monitoring at the time of his arrest. The crime spree Sherri Stewart has lived on Northbourne Road near Morgan State University for more than 20 years, and it was on her block where Baltimore police say the 14-year-old's crime spree started Sunday at 12:18 a.m. when the teen stole a car here. Baltimore police arrested a 14-year-old suspect for a violent crime spree in Northeast Baltimore on Sunday. CBS News Baltimore "They should be charged as an adult. I'm sorry," Stewart said. "With a monitor on and a gun? It's getting out of hand. Somebody needs to do something. No matter what, we look out for each other. Yet they come at 3 or 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning when everyone is asleep." At 6:47 a.m., police said the teenager is linked to a carjacking in the 5300 block of Perring Parkway, not far from Dutch Village. That is the same area where a 14-year-old was placed on GPS monitoring after stealing a car last month and crashing, injuring several people. They found a BB gun and a screwdriver inside the vehicle during that incident. Baltimore police arrested a 14-year-old suspect for a violent crime spree in Northeast Baltimore on Sunday. CBS News Baltimore Later, the teen struck again, robbing a grocery delivery driver at gunpoint in the 1200 block of Woodbourne Avenue near The Alameda. "Sometimes I blame the parents, but once your child leaves your sight, you don't know what they're going to do," Stewart said. New DJS leadership It follows the abrupt resignation of Maryland's juvenile services secretary earlier this month. Vincent Schiraldi was under fire for being too lenient on repeat, young, violent offenders. He left his position on Friday. "I've been under criticism since I started," he told WJZ earlier this month. Schiraldi said he recommended his own replacement, Betsy Fox Tolentino. She previously worked with DJS and the immersive violence prevention program Roca. "His recommendation is a little concerning to me. Her role within his leadership team is also a little bit concerning to me. I would hope that she does not continue down the pathway of some of the policies that Secretary Schiraldi has enacted," Republican Baltimore County Delegate Ryan Nawrocki previously told WJZ Investigates. Arrests, GPS monitoring The city's state's attorney said arrests and charges for juvenile offenders in Baltimore skyrocketed from 303 in 2022 to 1,126 last year. The 14-year-old involved in Sunday's crime spree was already on GPS monitoring for past offenses. Last month, police arrested a 15-year-old repeat offender on GPS monitoring for kidnapping and robbing a 12-year-old victim on his way to school in East Baltimore. Police said they took the 14-year-old in the Northeast Baltimore crime spree to the Juvenile Justice Center, and he was "charged accordingly." The commissioner addressed juvenile crime concerns earlier this month after a group of teenagers were arrested with a cache of weapons.
