Lisa Wilkinson appears in surprise cameo on The Project as the show celebrates its best celeb interviews
Don't miss out on the headlines from TV. Followed categories will be added to My News. An unexpected face made a brief appearance on Wednesday's episode of The Project as the show continues to celebrate its last week on air. A number of archive clips featuring Lisa Wilkinson were included in a segment looking back at the show's most memorable celebrity interviews. It included vision from Wilkinson's 2020 interview with Robbie Williams that saw her ask the rocker if there was anything he hadn't tried yet that he'd like to. Williams' answer was bleeped, with Wilkinson laughing: 'I can't use that'. Despite briefly appearing in the montage, Wilkinson wasn't mentioned first-hand by any of the panellists. A surprising face made a brief appearance on The Project on Wednesday. Picture: 10 Wilkinson quit The Project in November 2022, but remained with Network 10 for another two years despite never returning to air. Her appearance, even in clips, may be surprising to some viewers considering the former Ten star had been locked in a legal battle with her former employer until earlier this year. Back in February, Channel 10 were ordered to pay an additional $590,000 – and a total of $1.15m – to cover her legal costs for the Bruce Lehrmann defamation trial. Lisa Wilkinson was locked in a legal battle with the network until earlier this year when she came out victorious. Picture: 10 Justice Michael Lee last year dismissed Lehrmann's high-stakes lawsuit against Ten and Wilkinson after he found — on the civil standard of the balance of probabilities — that the former political staffer had raped Brittany Higgins inside Parliament House in March 2019. Lehrmann sued Ten and Wilkinson, claiming he had been defamed by a The Project interview in which Higgins alleged she was raped by a colleague after a night out drinking in Canberra. Ten and Wilkinson were at odds over her legal bill and how much the network should reimburse her after she hired outside counsel, prominent barrister Sue Chrysanthou SC, to defend her separately to the network during the trial. Ten had already paid $558,548 of Ms Wilkinson's legal bill. She had initially sought $1.8m. And the remainder of her costs were examined by a referee. Justice Lee in February made an order in the Federal Court that Ten pay Wilkinson an additional of $591,000 before March 19. It took the total amount to be paid by Ten to its former start to $1.15m Justice Lee last year ordered that Lehrmann pay Ten $2m, after finding in favour of the broadcaster. Lisa Wilkinson makes appearance on The Project following controversial exit as axed show enters final days
made a brief appearance on The Project as it aired one of its final episodes on Wednesday. While she did not appear in person on the live show, the former co-host of the axed series was seen briefly in a package of celebrity interviews filmed in earlier years. A clip showed Wilkinson interviewing British pop star Robbie Williams in 2020, where she asked him if there is anything he hasn't tried yet that he'd like to. Robbie's answer was bleeped, with Lisa laughing, 'I can't use that'. Lisa was not mentioned by the show's panel but also appeared in further footage in the throwback segment, including a clip where she was shown interviewing singer Celine Dion. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. While she did not appear in person on the live show, the former co-host of the axed series was seen briefly in a package of celebrity interviews filmed in earlier years Wilkinson had joined the network in 2018 after an infamous pay dispute at Nine when she discovered her Today co-host Karl Stefanovic was earning significantly more than her. Everything was going well when she signed a new deal with Ten in 2021. But just a year later, she stepped down as host of The Project - her sole on-air role - citing the toll of 'relentless, targeted' media coverage. Wilkinson quit The Project in November 2022 and despite remaining on the Ten payroll until the end of 2024 she did not appear on air again. Despite her lengthy hiatus from the network, Wilkinson has remained in the public eye through her role in a highly-publicised defamation trial. She was embroiled in a case with Bruce Lehrmann who was suing Network 10 and Wilkinson over an interview with Brittany Higgins that was broadcast on The Project and online. This week, Wilkinson broke her silence on the show's shock cancellation. The 65-year-old veteran presenter recently shared a precious gallery of throwback photos from her time on the program to social media. One photo captured a beaming Lisa posing on the set alongside her former co-stars, including Carrie Bickmore, Waleed Aly and Peter Helliar. Another showed Lisa having fun with several of the A-List guests who appeared on the program, including Magda Szubanski, Tommy Little and Backstreet Boys stars Brian Littrell and Nick Carter. She captioned the gallery with some heartbreaking words. 'Vale The Project. So many talented people, so many laughs, so many incredibly important stories - many of which may have otherwise never been told,' Lisa began. 'It was a joy and privilege to be a part of it all. My love to everyone, particularly the huge hard-working team behind the scenes. 'Along with the audience, you were the true heart and soul of the show.' It comes after The Project was officially axed this week and will air its final episode on June 27. Network 10 announced the news earlier this month, sharing a post to Facebook thanking viewers for their support before announcing the show's replacement. Hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris and Hamish Macdonald will also reportedly exit the network, while comedian Sam Taunton will continue his guest appearances on other Ten shows. The Project first aired in July 2009 and exceeded more than a million metro viewers at the height of its success - It boasted a rotating panel with stars like Aly, Harris, Tunny, Hamish Macdonald, Rove McManus, Taunton and Susie Youssef. It won several accolades including 11 Logie Awards - two of which were viewer-voted Gold Logies won by Aly and Bickmore. However, audiences began to dwindle in recent years and earlier this month, it attracted between 238,000 and 357,000 viewers nationally.

Lorraine Kelly reveals her two worst celebrity interviews as she reflects on her career after ITV's brutal daytime TV cuts
Lorraine Kelly has revealed her favourite and least favourite celebrity interviews of all time as she reflected on her TV career on Monday. During an appearance at the 2025 Hay Festival of Literature and Arts, Lorraine was interviewed about her 2024 novel The Island Swimmer before the floor was thrown to audience questions. One fan asked the TV presenter, 65, her best and worse talk show guests prompting Lorraine to gush over George Clooney. She replied: 'George Clooney is adorable. He just is. He's my favourite.' She then went on to admit interviews with singers Mariah Carey and Lady Gaga have been among the worst. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The ITV star said: 'The one that was difficult, not because she was horrible... but Mariah Carey was 'refreshed'. It's good we were [pre-recording] it because her first answer was 10 minutes long, and did not make any sense. 'But I always give people the benefit of the doubt.' She then recalled an interview with Lady Gaga, in which Lorraine's production crew were left waiting 'for five or six hours' for an interview that never materialised. She said: 'They kept saying "she's getting in the car, she's getting in the car", and of course my crew have all been up since God knows when... they need to go home to bed!' Lorraine added: 'She never turned up; I don't know what happened there'. During her four-decade career as a TV presenter, Lorraine has interviewed some of the world's most famous celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey, Elton John, and Hugh Jackman. Lorraine is reportedly ready to take drastic measures following brutal cutbacks at ITV in a bid to save her long-running show. The host, who has frequently let other presenters stand in for her, will now front her show five days a week after its running time was slashed from 60 to 30 minutes. In addition, the programme, which previously ran year-round, will now also air for just half of the year. And now a source has told The Mirror: 'Lorraine was not happy about what is happening and also had concern for the production team which will be cut back too. 'But the truth is she has to roll her sleeves up and work harder on her own show than she has in recent years, otherwise the long-term future does not look good. 'She needs to show bosses it is worth keeping on air. You can expect her to be pulling hard to get big name celebrities on her show instead of GMB or This Morning.' ITV claims that it is slashing the budgets of its daytime TV shows in a bid to increase long-term profitability amid changes in viewer habits and a move towards streaming services. The insider explained that while the Scottish host is a staple of daytime TV, changes have to be made in the current climate. Lorraine will now be vying to get the biggest name celebrity guests on her couch so that she can compete with other major talk shows like This Morning and Good Morning Britain. ITV has been contacted by MailOnline for comment. The changes come amid a huge cull of roles at ITV, which will result in hundreds of job losses. Now, anger is reportedly mounting behind the scenes after This Morning escaped the ITV cutbacks announced this month amid a schedule shake-up and overhaul at the channel. ITV announced on May 20 that there would be dramatic changes to their daytime TV schedule, with Lorraine's show slashed from an hour to 30 minutes and, like Loose Women, will only air 30 weeks of the year. Anchors Ruth Langsford and Kaye Adams, both 65, and presenters Nadia Sawalha, 60, and Denise Welch, 66, are believed to be 'angered' and 'panicked' about their livelihoods being at stake, causing uproar behind the scenes. Top TV talents including Lorraine are believed to be 'furious' and 'insulted' over the shake-up while the Loose Women are already fearing inevitable job losses. The new regime, set to come into effect in January, will cost a potential 300 staff members their jobs as a consultation period begins as soon as today, lasting until September, before employees are finally let go in December. But now there is reportedly growing resentment that This Morning is going to be unaffected despite scandals in recent years including Phillip Schofield's affair with a much younger colleague. A source told The Sun: 'There's a lot of rage towards This Morning, which everyone feels is constantly favoured despite it being the lame duck of the daytime flock. 'There's a feeling that Loose Women and Lorraine are delivering resilient, solid ratings while This Morning is always in the Press for its tumbling viewing figures. Loose Women is even winning awards. 'Never mind the Phillip Schofield scandal and then Holly Willoughby leaving, This Morning is like the black sheep and yet that's the show that is not facing any cuts.' An ITV spokesman said: 'At a time when our daytime teams are undergoing a period of change we will not comment on speculation around talent or staff contracts. 'Our intention is to keep our daytime shows as familiar to viewers as possible which includes seeing presenters they know and love.'

Angela Bishop shares never-before-seen photos of a young Nicole Kidman and Robin Williams as she marks 36 years at Channel 10
Angela Bishop has shared a photo gallery of the A-listers she has interviewed over the past three decades, showing big names like Nicole Kidman and Robin Williams Williams like we've never seen them before. The veteran presenter, 57, recently marked 36 years with Network Ten and to celebrate the occasion, uploaded a treasure trove of old photographs. One precious photo from the early '90s shows Angela posing with a frizzy-haired Nicole Kidman, as the Hollywood actress was on the brink of stardom. Another picture captures her posing with American actors Robin Williams and Billy Crystal, when they were in Australia in 1997 to promote their movie Father's Day. She also shared photos of her meeting Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones, U2 frontman Bono, Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman and Hugh Grant. The Sydney-born presenter captioned the gallery with some heartfelt words: 'This month marks my 36 year anniversary at Network 10. I got to flicking through some old pics. You never know what you'll find.' Many of Angela's celebrity friends took to the comment section to congratulate her on her long career. 'OMG ANG!!! You are such an icon of media! Love you & your amazing body of work! One of the most fabulous women I know!' gushed fellow presenter Jessica Rowe. 'The best of the best! Massive achievement, congrats!!!' added Nova radio star Jase Hawkins. Angela began working for Channel Ten in 1989 and is one of the network's most esteemed presenters. She made a name for herself on Studio 10 but the embattled program was axed in November 2023 after more than a decade on-air. Angela, as well as her fellow hosts Narelda Jacobs and Tristan MacManus, remained with Channel 10 and were redeployed to new roles. She now serves as 10 News First's entertainment editor and takes to the red carpet for the program interviewing the stars. Angela shares daughter, Amelia, 15, with her late husband Peter Baikie. Baikie died in late November 2017 after battling a rare form of cancer. The couple married in 2005. The 54-year-old mechanic was diagnosed in February 2016 and he died on November 22. In an interview with The Australian Women's Weekly, Angela revealed what it was like raising her daughter alone following the loss of her husband. 'I'm a single mum, not by any choice or planning, but unexpectedly,' she said. 'Parenting is a huge responsibility and when I lost Peter I had no-one to bounce off anymore,' she went on. 'We were often on the same page and now I don't have that person to run things by. 'I've had wonderful extended family to help since I've been on my own, but it's not quite the same.'
