Charity football match to honour two-year-old boy

A charity football match is to be held later in memory of a two-year-old boy who from Devon who died with a heart condition. James and Lauren Washbrook lost their son Hendrix in 2022, who was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. In 2023 the pair set up a charity, Marching On With Hendrix, which was set up to support bereaved parents. The charity football match will be held at Buckland Athletic, in Newton Abbott, with gates opening at 12:00 BST and kick-off at 14:00. More news stories for Devon Listen to the latest news for Devon The Marching On With Hendrix team - made up of family, friends, local footballers, ex-professionals and one current professional player - would play against Forever Green, a team of former Plymouth Argyle players. The charity supports parents, grandparents and siblings by offering counselling, emotional support, and meaningful keepsakes such as memory bears and jewellery. Mr Washbrook said: "We just felt like the support wasn't really available or wasn't right for us... so we we decided to set up on our own and and try and bridge that gap. "We're entirely self-funded so every penny that goes out to our families is raised by us in the community that we that we're in... and the football match just happens to be the next one of those that we're doing." 'Grieve at your own pace' Mr Washbrook said the event was open to all, with tickets £10 for adults, £2 for children and £20 for family tickets. The money would go "towards families who have lost a child between birth and 18 years old", he said. Mr Washbrook said his advice to parents experiencing a loss would be "grieve at your own pace". "Everybody's different, although we we all go through the grieving process, it's not a linear journey by any stretch of the imagination I know," he said. The Mercedes and Aston Martin Formula 1 teams have taken each other on in men's and women's charity football matches. The games were held at the National League ground St James Park in Brackley, Northamptonshire, on Thursday. Mercedes F1 team won the men's match 3-2, while Aston Martin's women's team won their game 6-2. Brackley Town Football Club, who put on the games, said it was "delighted to host the match between two great teams raising money for great charities". The matches were in aid of the hospice charity, Helen & Douglas House, and Northamptonshire Health Charity. Mercedes said on social media there was some "fantastic sporting action" during the games and Aston Martin thanked everyone who came and donated to the event. It was the third year Mercedes F1 has played a charity match against Silverstone-based Aston Martin F1. Helen & Douglas House, which cares for terminally ill babies, children, and young people, is the charity partner of Mercedes F1, which has its headquarters in Brackley. Two Bristol football matches to fundraise for cystic fibrosis charity

Supporters are gearing up for two charity football games across Bristol in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Comfort Fund. The first match, hosted by Keynsham-based Frys Club, will be played at the Pavilion on Saturday, July 12 at 3pm. The second match, the #FW Trophy match, will take place at Chipping Sodbury FC on Saturday, July 19, also kicking off at 3pm. Last year's #FW Trophy match was a huge success, raising £3,000 for the charity. The matches will feature players from various clubs, both current and retired, forming an #FWXI team. Each game will consist of 90 minutes of football, followed by raffles, auctions, and other fundraising activities. Spectators are encouraged to make donations at the gate. The Saturday, July 19 game will also feature evening entertainment from the Abbaholics. A spokesperson said: "These days are great fun and it's great to see the football community come together to support such a fantastic local charity."
