A MARRIED teacher has admitted bombarding her teen pupil with nudes and pressuring him to have sex - but avoided jail. Rikki Lynn Laughlin, 26, sent a cache of explicit content, including naked pics and a video of herself using a sex toy, to the 16-year-old boy over Snapchat. 3 3 3 Laughlin also begged the student to come over and have sex with her while her husband was away. The 26-year-old was a special needs teacher at St James High School in St James, Missouri, during the time of the crimes between September 8 and October 19. Laughlin pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of endangering the welfare of a child without sexual contact, KRCG reported. Maries County officials first launched an investigation after a Phelps County detective tipped them off about an inappropriate relationship at the school, KSDK reported at the time, citing a probable cause statement by the County Sheriff's Office. The teen then told cops that Laughlin approached him online and sent him nudes and video of herself using a dildo, before asking for images from him in return. She reportedly asked him to delete the sexually explicit content out of fear of getting into legal trouble, or of people finding out. While he did delete some of them, he showed several others to the police. He told cops that "things progressed fast" after the Snapchat exchange, and that the mum-of-one had kissed him in a classroom. She allegedly invited him to have sex, but he "made excuses" because "he did not feel comfortable", according to a probable cause statement by the Maries County Sheriff's Office. Laughlin reportedly claimed to police that the teen made contact first - but did not deny the relationship had occured. The former teacher was charged in October 2024 with a seven alleged sex crimes against the student - including statutory rape and possession of child pornography. On Thursday, she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of endangering the welfare of a child. Laughlin was sentenced to five years of probation. There full list of charges she initially faced is felony counts of possession of child pornography, tampering or attempting to tamper with a victim in a felony prosecution, statutory rape – 2nd degree, sexual exploitation of a minor, tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution, furnishing pornographic material to a minor, and sexual trafficking of a child – 2nd degree. After Laughlin's arrest, the school district Superintendent Tim Webster said: "The District takes these matters seriously and reported allegations to appropriate outside agencies, including law enforcement.

A New York City man was arrested after police say he threw his 1-year-old niece down a garbage chute, PEOPLE has learned.A spokesperson with the New York City Police Department confirmed with PEOPLE that Aaron Henderson, 39, has been charged with three counts of assault, two counts of unlawful imprisonment, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. The NYPD spokesperson said officers responded to an apartment building at 195 Steuben St in the Park Hill neighborhood of Staten Island shortly after receiving a 911 call around 3 p.m. on Monday, July 21. 'Upon arrival, officers were informed that a 39-year-old male placed a 1-year-old female inside of a garbage chute,' the NYPD spokesperson said. The infant suffered a "minor abrasion to the torso" and was taken to Staten Island University North Campus hospital in stable condition. The New York Daily News reported that Henderson has autism, and that the girl's parents rushed downstairs to help rescue their child after realizing what had happened. 'I've been here for over 20 years, it's saddening,' neighbor Milton Franklin told WABC from his apartment door, explaining that he had seen the girl's mother go in the ambulance with her infant daughter, who was crying. New Jersey woman charged in connection with 2-year-old daughter's death, prosecutor says

An Ocean Gate, New Jersey, mother was charged with endangering the welfare of a child in connection with the death of her 2-year-old daughter last week, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced on Tuesday. Jenna O'Connor, 32, is in custody and taken to Ocean County Jail, pending a detention hearing, the prosecutor said in the release on Wednesday. Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit detectives responded to the Community Medical Center in Toms River on July 17 on a report of a 2-year-old girl in critical condition. The girl received further treatment after being airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. The girl died days later on July 21. The prosecutor said tests were performed on the child while she was hospitalized, and it was revealed there was methadone in her system. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit and Ocean Gate Police Department Detective Bureau conducted an investigation that revealed that on the morning of July 17, O'Connor called 911 after finding the child unresponsive in her crib, the release said. It was further revealed in the investigation that O'Connor was home and responsible for the girl's care on July 16-17, and that the girl had access to methadone in the home, the prosecutor said. "While the death of this baby is tragic, the investigation remains active and ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming," Billhimer said.

Two men were charged after a 2-year-old boy was shot with an unsecured gun inside a home in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on Monday evening. Chicago police said Tyree Johnson, 26, and Deonte Johnson, 23, were each charged with one misdemeanor count of child endangerment. The men are expected in court for detention hearings on Wednesday. At 8:26 p.m., police were called to a home in the 400 block of North Lawndale Avenue after the toddler entered a bedroom where an unsecured gun was located, police said. A man heard a loud noise, and found the 2-year-old boy with a graze wound on the left wrist, police said. The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County where was listed in good condition, police said. A weapon was recovered on the scene.

A 5-year-old boy with autism was found standing on the roof of his Brackenridge home earlier this month. Neighbors heard the boy screaming as he got stranded on the roof after apparently climbing out of a window on July 7 at 10 p.m. "He was out on that back roof for a half-hour crying and screaming to get in," neighbor Carol Karadeemas said. The 5-year-old boy was barefoot, wearing a T-shirt and had a soiled diaper, police said. His mother, Aniyah Johnson-Poindexter, was not home and had not been home since earlier that morning, according to officials. Officers rescued the child and took him to UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh for evaluation. "She comes in about 3:30 [a.m.] and she wanted to know who gave them the right to take her baby," Karadeemas said. Denied bond, Johnson-Poindexter faces one count of felony endangering the welfare of a child. She is in the Allegheny County Jail. As for the little boy, he remains in the custody of Allegheny County Children and Youth Services.
