The 10 Best City Hotels in Central and South America of 2025

City destinations in Central and South America impress T+L readers with their ability to preserve the rich cultural traditions of the past while embracing the kinds of ambitious innovations that will help carry tourism into the future. Though they serve as gateways to renowned cultural sights and spectacular natural environments, cities like Cuzco, Peru; São Paulo, Brazil; and Quito, Ecuador have plenty to offer in their own right—particularly for guests staying at the elite properties on this year's list of the best city hotels in Central and South America. Far beyond your standard lodgings, these World's Best Awards honorees demonstrate that there's so much more to a memorable stay than high thread counts and sweeping skyline views. Every year for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe—to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Nearly 180,000 T+L readers completed the 2025 survey. A total of more than 657,000 votes were cast across over 8,700 properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.). Hotels were classified as either resort hotel, city hotel, inn, or safari lodge based on their location and amenities, and they were specifically rated on the criteria below: Rooms/facilities Location Service Food Value For each characteristic, respondents could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses. Peruvian and Argentinian properties often dominate the list of readers' favorites in Central and South America, but this year's group is more evenly spread. Colombia, Peru, and Brazil all represent with two honorees apiece, and the chosen hotels embody that alluring mix of past and present that World's Best Awards voters can't resist. Take the Colombia entries as an example. At No. 3 is Barranquilla Marriott, a thoroughly contemporary, almost minimalist option in one of the country's Carnival hubs. Then, at No. 6, comes the striking Sofitel Legend Santa Clara Cartagena. Housed in a meticulously restored 17th-century convent, the 124-room hotel wows on all fronts, but especially its hospitality. 'My daughter was married here and every time I come to Cartagena I stay here,' wrote one reader. 'Kudos to the staff for always going above and beyond.' Though it slips down one spot since its last appearance in 2023, Ecuador's lone entry, No. 5 Casa Gangotena, returns to the list on the strength of its 'most beautiful location in the historic district of Quito,' as one reader described. But it was another outlier—one that feels both rooted in history and thoroughly modern—that captures T+L readers' hearts and votes this time around. Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo Scenic view from a rooftop lounge at the Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo. When it opened in 2023, this 159-room and 35-suite stunner—one of just six Sofitel Legends around the world—breathed new life into an iconic French colonial building that once housed the Union Club, Panama City's premier social hub. (Notables like Albert Einstein and Queen Elizabeth II visited in its heyday.) A five-year renovation, guided by a local architect, brought back a number of period-appropriate design touches meant to reflect the original structure from 1917, while also weaving in distinctly Panamanian artwork and furnishings. But that legacy and all of those thoughtful flourishes wouldn't mean a thing to World's Best Awards voters if the hotel wasn't also delivering an exceptional stay. 'Fabulous location,' shared one reader. 'Service is over the top.' Guests who splurge for one of those suites are paired with a butler who can indulge requests both low-key (unpacking suitcases, attending to laundry) and luxe (flower-flecked bubble baths). And while there's plenty to explore on your own, especially in the surrounding historic district, the concierge team excels in arranging next-level experiences like helicopter tours or private sails. 1. The 8 Best Hotels in North Africa and the Middle East of 2025

Travel + Leisure readers spanned the region as they selected their favorite city hotels and resorts in North Africa and the Middle East. While Dubai was a popular resort destination, readers loved city hotels in Doha, Cairo, and Marrakesh. Location, service, and style were all considered when votes were cast, and there were several mentions of on-site amenities such as top restaurants. The final scores are averages of these responses. The exterior of the Four Seasons Hotel Doha. T+L readers' favorite city hotels in North Africa and the Middle East are split between three places this year: Doha, Cairo, and Marrakesh. And one particular brand did very well: the Four Seasons snagged three of the top five spots. As you might expect, location was a factor in how readers rated city hotels in this region. One said of Marriott Mena House, Cairo (No. 2): "Great location, a nice respite from the busy city." Style and design also proved important, with readers praising the architecture of Marrakesh's La Mamounia (No. 3)—also on the list in 2024—and its 'beautifully maintained grounds'. Four Seasons Hotel Doha: Doha, Qatar The Four Seasons Hotel Doha lobby. 'The best hotel in Doha,' wrote one T+L reader about this year's winner and World's Best Awards newcomer, Four Seasons Hotel Doha. The beachfront property, in Qatar's capital, was popular with readers for its location and service—one wrote about a lengthy immigration wait that had led to the hotel manager streamlining their check-in process and taking extra care of them during their stay. Another reader mentioned the 'extraordinary Nobu restaurant' on site. The hotel also has nine other restaurants and lounges, plus a private beach and a spa. 1. Four Seasons Hotel Doha: Qatar Reader Score: 95.44 2. Marriott Mena House, Cairo Reader Score: 91.56 3. La Mamounia: Marrakesh WBA Hall of Fame honoree. Reader Score: 91.13 4. Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza: Cairo Reader Score: 86.80 5. Four Seasons Resort Marrakech: Marrakesh Reader Score: 82.67 Interestingly, this year's list of top resorts in North Africa and the Middle East is completely different from the 2024 list—though some properties have been featured in prior years. One common thread for this year's winners? Location. A favorite resort destination for T+L readers, Dubai has all three hotels, including both Atlantis properties (The Palm at No. 4 and The Royal at No. 2). When it comes to why they voted for these resorts, it's clear readers valued aesthetics—one noted 'everything was new and shiny' at the Atlantis The Royal. Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort: Dubai, United Arab Emirates Waterside dining at Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort. Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort T+L readers picked Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort as their top resort in North Africa and the Middle East this year. Readers praised its broad appeal for families and couples, as well as beachy staycations for Dubai residents. On the Palm Jumeirah island off Dubai, with its own strip of private coastline, the hotel launched the United Arab Emirates' first overwater villas, and has three pools, a spa, and six restaurants and lounges, including its signature Asian restaurant, Mekong. 1. Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort: Dubai, United Arab Emirates Reader Score: 98.67 2. Atlantis The Royal: Dubai, United Arab Emirates Reader Score: 97.26 3. These Are the 15 Best City Hotels in the U.S.—and No. 1 Is a Surprisingly Quiet Spot on the Buzzy Las Vegas Strip

The best city hotels are mini destinations themselves. They might be found in dynamic locations with world-class museums, reputable restaurants, and endless things to do, but the hotels themselves have also curated experiences and amenities that encourage guests to spend more time on property—whether it's through interesting artwork, exquisite dining options, or flawless customer service. Based on the results from this year's World's Best Awards, Travel + Leisure readers prefer these types of well-rounded hotels, and also have an affinity for properties in Southern cities, especially Charleston, South Carolina. Every year for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe—to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Making a return to the best continental U.S. city hotels list—it was last featured in 2023—The Loutrel (No. 12) is one of five Charleston properties our readers rated highly. 'Everything about it screams subtle luxury, from the welcoming scent when you walk in to the well-appointed rooms and comfortable beds,' said one reader, adding that the downtown location is 'perfect' and the complimentary snacks, beverages, and breakfast make it an 'amazing value.' Another Southern favorite, Bowie House, Auberge Resorts Collection (No. 14) was applauded for its culinary offerings, expertly curated art and decor, and 'professional' and 'friendly staff.' According to one T+L reader, it's 'set the standard for luxury hotels in Fort Worth.' One reader noted the staff 'goes above and beyond to make any request a reality,' while another deemed it 'one of the best hotels [they] have ever stayed at.' While all of the featured hotels are standouts in their own right, only one could top the list. Read on to see which city hotel came out on top this year. Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas Inside the penthouse suite at Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas. 'The Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas is a true gem on the Strip,' said one reader. 'From its stunning, non-gaming atmosphere to its breathtaking views and world-class amenities, every detail is meticulously designed for comfort and elegance.' The 3 Best City Hotels in Spain of 2025

Spain is more than sun and sand, and its best city hotels prove it—they offer guests a window into the real Spain through curated cultural experiences, standout dining options, and unbeatable locations in the heart of it all. When Travel + Leisure readers voted for their favorite city hotels in the country, these three properties came out on top. The exterior of the Hotel Arts Barcelona. The final scores are averages of these responses. Spain has no shortage of spectacular cities—Valencia, San Sebastián, Seville, to name a few. But when it came to ranking the places with the best hotels, readers preferred Barcelona and Madrid above all. Two winners from last year's WBA awards have once again cinched leading spots on the 2025 list, including Barcelona's Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection (No.3), a historic neoclassical private residence that's been transformed into a jewel box-like property. The Four Seasons Hotel Madrid, which came in second on this year's list, impressed guests with its 'thoughtful, personal service' and 'great location.' One traveler went even further, calling the 200-room hotel near Madrid's Puerta del Sol, 'Europe's finest.' To find out which hotel claimed the No.1 spot, we'll need to head to the Catalan capital. Hotel Arts Barcelona: Barcelona, Spain Hotel Arts Barcelona's infinity pool. Despite not ranking in last year's World's Best Awards, Barcelona's soaring, seafront Hotel Arts Barcelona—one of the city's original luxury properties—has found its way back into travelers' hearts. While many guests choose the 483-room hotel simpy for its covetable location on the Mediterranean, it's an equal hit among travelers who are looking for easy access to some of the city's coolest new urban developments, like the revitalized Port Olímpic marina, filled with destination-worthy dining, or the walkable 'Superblocks' of the hip Poblenou neighborhood. 'This is the best hotel I've ever stayed at in my 25 years of traveling around the world,' said one reader. Other readers praised the property for its family-friendly atmosphere, 'beautiful rooms,' and 'personalized service.'
