U.S city tops Time Out ranking of the 20 best places in the world for nightlife
Las Vegas has suffered a drop in visitor numbers recently, with " ridiculous prices" to blame. But there's more than one reason to go against the grain and book a vacation there. For one, we revealed insider tips for enjoying Sin City on a budget, from the best-value hotels to book to a pro tip for getting a discount after you've checked in. Secondly, it's just been crowned the global nightlife capital. It tops Time Out's 20-strong ranking of the best cities in the world for nightlife for 2025. The list was compiled by a survey of 18,500 people around the world, who were asked about nightlife and going out in their city. Each city was ranked according to how locals rated the quality and affordability of the nightlife scene, from clubbing to entertainment, coupled with the thoughts of Time Out city editors, and arts and culture writers. Las Vegas is lauded by Time Out for its DJ-oriented raves and hidden speakeasies. Las Vegas expert Ryan Slattery says: "Nightlife in Las Vegas famously centres around top DJs spinning EDM or hip hop in enormous resort nightclubs. "But in recent years, there's been a shift to a more low-key nightlife venue: the cocktail bar." He continues: "Many of these cocktail lounges – Stray Pirate, Doberman and Nocturno, to name a few – can be found in the city's thriving Arts District, a walkable downtown neighborhood of vintage shops, breweries and restaurants. "Vegas also has a slew of tiki bars and dozens of speakeasies; spots hidden inside a working barbershop, behind a bookcase of a Mamak stall at Resorts World or in the basement of the Mob Museum. There's even one called The Lock that you crawl into through a safe door." Second place in the ranking goes to Madrid, "home to an incredibly diverse nightlife scene with outstanding bars and clubs". In third place is Paris, which Time Out acknowledges is expensive, but declares that going out there is "worth every penny". The guide adds: "Parisian nightlife is going through a new golden age right now with Queer collectives like La Créole, Divin0 and Le Bunker lighting up the city with joyous, inclusive and intersectional parties where dancehall, perreo and afrobeats ring out, proving that techno no longer has a monopoly on the dancefloor." Two Malaysian bars in Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025 extended 51-100 list: Backdoor Bodega ranks No. 64, Coley No. 92
KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 — Two Malaysian bars have been included in the 2025 edition of Asia's 50 Best Bars' extended 51-100 list: Coley in Kuala Lumpur comes in at No. 92, continuing its streak of being named on the list every year since debuting at No. 46 in 2018, while Backdoor Bodega in Penang returns at No. 64, after first making the list at No. 97 in 2022. A veteran of both the list and Malaysia's cocktail bar scene, Coley recently marked its 9th anniversary with a month-long celebration featuring numerous guest shifts. Founded by CK Kho, the bar is named in tribute to Ada 'Coley' Coleman, the Savoy's iconic inventor of the hanky panky, a classic cocktail made with gin, sweet vermouth and Fernet-Branca. In addition to riffs on classic cocktails, the small neighbourhood bar has become a Bangsar staple for its contemporary Malaysian creations and playful food programme. It gained wider renown after being named the best bar in Malaysia when it was ranked No. 27 on the 2019 list. Fashioning itself as 'an overpriced pin shop', guests purchase lapel pins at the bar to 'redeem' cocktails. The 1–50 list for Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025 will be announced on July 15, 'live' from the Wynn Palace in Macau.

World's Best Bars: The Nominees For The 2025 Spirited Awards
There ought to be a few of drinks on the house tonight at the best bars in the world as the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation announced its nominees for the 2025 Spirited Awards. Launched in 2007 and considered to be among the hospitality industry's highest honors, the Spirited Awards are part of the annual Tales of the Cocktail festival held in New Orleans in July, honoring the top bars, bartenders, brand ambassadors, and spirits journalists from around the world. The awards are selected by a jury of hospitality peers—acclaimed bartenders, bar owners, and journalists and authors. (Forbes is the official media partner of the Spirited Awards.) Once again, there are many familiar watering holes among this year's nominees. Hong Kong's Bar Leone (named Best New International Cocktail Bar at the 2024 Spirited Awards) built on its early success and received three nominations: Best International Bartender, Best Bar Team and Best International Cocktail Bar. And Mexico City's Handshake Speakeasy, which won Best International Bar Team in 2024 and whose cofounder, Eric Van Beek, was named International Bartender of the Year last year, was also nominated for Best International Cocktail Bar. In the United States, Denver's Yacht Club, which was named Best U.S. Cocktail Bar last year, received a nomination for Best U.S. Bar Team and McClain Hedges picked up a nomination for U.S. Bartender of the Year. And Allegory, at Washington, D.C.'s Eaton Hotel, which was named Best U.S. Hotel Bar last year and is home to 2024's U.S. Bartender of the Year, Kapri Robinson, was also nominated for Best U.S. Bar Team. New York continued to flex its cocktail muscle. Three of the four nominees for Best New U.S. Cocktail Bar can be found in Manhattan: Bar Snack, Clemente Bar and Sip & Guzzle. (The fourth nominee, ViceVersa, is in Miami). And Overstory, in the Financial District, was nominated again for Best U.S. Cocktail Bar. For those who want an atlas of nominees, Tales of the Cocktail built an interactive map of the world's best bars in 2021. Most nominees will have to wait until July 24 to learn if they actually won a Spirited Award, but there are at least two bars (The Bar at Keens Steakhouse in New York and Madrid's Bar Cock) and two bartenders (Lynette Marrero and Ian Burrell), who can raise a glass in celebration tonight. Both Keens and Bar Cock will be celebrated as Timeless bars for their decades of innovation and service. Burrell, who began his career as a bartender in London in the 1990s, reinvented himself as a 'global rum ambassador' some 20 years ago, will be presented with the Helen David Lifetime Achievement Award at the Spirited Awards. The charismatic Burrell has represented many different rum brands over the years—and cofounded Equiano rum in 2020—and is renowned in the industry for a presentation style he calls 'edutainment.' Marrero, meanwhile, is a veteran New York bartender who was named Best Bar Mentor at the 2019 Spirited Awards, and will be honored with the Tales Visionary Award. In addition to cofounding Speed Rack, an international bartending competition for women, she is the mixologist behind Delola, Jennifer Lopez' line of bottled cocktails. 2025 Spirited Awards Nominees New York's Overstory is nominated again for Best U.S. Cocktail Bar.
