Oregon's Mason Neville experiences major fall in MLB Draft
Oregon Ducks star Mason Neville was one of college baseball's brightest stars this season. The 6-foot-3, left-handed outfielder was No. 35 overall prospect after tying for the NCAA lead with 26 home runs. But after the first day of the MLB draft, which included three rounds and 105 selections, Neville is still available. Coming into Sunday's draft, the Oregon slugger was viewed as an advanced college bat, but one who crushed fastballs and struggled with some of the off-speed stuff he saw from college arms. Here's what has to say about him, in part, as a prospect: "Neville has long intrigued scouts with his overall athleticism and offensive potential from the left side of the plate, reminding some from his high school days of a young Cody Bellinger." "The raw power is very real, and a year after hitting 16 homers with a 33.5 percent strikeout rate, Neville has jumped up boards by greatly cutting down his swing-and-miss, allowing him to get to that pop even more consistently for the 26 homers that tied for the NCAA Division I home run title." "He can drive the ball gap-to-gap with plenty of pull power. He punishes fastballs and still struggles against softer stuff, but scouts are much more bullish overall that the bat will play at the next level." In total, the Ducks did not have a player drafted, but class of 2025 Oregon signee Taitn Gray was selected No. 92 overall by the Tampa Bay Rays. Day 2 should prove to be a much better day for the program, as Rounds 4-20 should see 5-6 Ducks hear their names called.

Former Longhorn signs with Chicago Cubs
Former Longhorns reliever Aiden Moffett has checked off a significant career milestone. The talented right-hander signed with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. While the talented reliever has had an up-and-down college career, his arm is full of potential. After one year with Texas, he is moving on to the next level. During his college career, Moffett made 23 appearances for LSU and Texas. In 21.2 innings of work, the talented 21-year-old posted a 5.40 ERA. While he did struggle with control at times, Moffett struck out 18 batters, seven of which came with Texas. He is coming off his best collegiate season, in which he posted a 2.25 ERA during his only year wearing burnt orange. Advertisement In Moffett, the Cubs are getting a pitcher with an intriguing arsenal. His fastball tops out in the high nineties, and his off-speed pitches have frustrated hitters over the last three years. He has kept opponents off balance with an elite sinker and slider combination. Now that his college career Is in the books, Moffett can shift his focus to making an impact with the Cubs. His MLB debut is most likely a few years away, but the Cubs think highly of him. Less than 24 hours after the draft ended, Chicago made sure to get Moffett in their system. Over the last few months in Austin, Moffett has shown flashes of being a very dominant reliever. That is partly due to the work he put in during his time as a Longhorn. As he moves through the minors, Moffett will be a player to watch. Indiana outfielder makes program history with high MLB Draft selection
The Indiana Hoosiers are officially on the board in the 2025 MLB Draft — and it's one of the biggest stars in program history who heard his name called. Outfielder Devin Taylor was selected by the Oakland Athletics with the No. 48 overall pick in the second round late Sunday night. He became the highest-drafted outfielder in program history and the top selection of the Jeff Mercer era, which began in 2019. Advertisement Over the past few months, Taylor had shown up across a wide range of mock drafts. Some projected him as a potential mid-to-late first-rounder, but he slipped a bit on draft night before finally landing with the A's at 48. His college career was nothing short of impressive. Taylor was a unanimous All-American in 2025 and picked up eight total All-American honors during his three seasons in Bloomington. He was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2023 — one of just four in program history — and helped lead Indiana to 108 wins, three Big Ten Tournament appearances, and two NCAA Tournament berths. But Taylor didn't just produce — he stood out. Advertisement Taylor put together one of the best offensive seasons in the country in 2025, hitting .374 with 18 home runs and nearly twice as many walks as strikeouts. That kind of plate discipline is tough to teach — and it stood out to scouts all spring. With quick hands, raw power, and a mature approach in the box, he became one of the more talked-about hitters in this year's draft class. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp His selection gives Indiana another strong presence in the early rounds and adds to the growing list of players who've gone pro under head coach Jeff Mercer. Taylor was one of the most reliable bats in college baseball over the last few seasons and kept improving each year. Scouts are drawn to his clean left-handed swing and ability to stay within himself at the plate. He's shown he can hit for both average and power, and he doesn't chase much — all signs that point to a player who could carve out a long-term role as an everyday outfielder. Advertisement For the A's, he fills a real need. Only two outfielders currently rank among their top 10 prospects, so bringing in a polished college bat like Taylor adds immediate depth to the system and fits the timeline of a team still working through its rebuild. For Oakland, it's another advanced college bat with upside. And for Indiana, Taylor's rise is another example of a program continuing to develop high-level talent and stay nationally relevant.
