RESIDENT ALIEN Recap: (S04E04) Truth Hurts
Resident Alien Season 4 Episode 4, 'Truth Hurts,' sees Harry endure the pains of love as a product of telling the truth. As it turns out, navigating a relationship with an alien and your alien babies is pretty damn hard when you're human. The outing is a bit slower, but it fleshes out our core character dynamics and, at least for Kate, plants the narrative seeds for what's to come. Plus, Alan Tudyk and Edi Patterson are comedic perfection together. RELATED: Read our recap of the previous Resident Alien episode, 'Ties That Bind' Resident Alien, 'Truth Hurts' We open with a flashback to 20 years ago, at the Hawthorne house. Young Ben is hosting a rager. D'arcy, who was recently away from town doing her skiing thang, confesses that she likes Ben. Not 'likes' him — like likes him. They kiss. Suddenly, Judy stumbles out of the front door while attempting to drag a keg. The cops are on their way to bust the party. Aw, nuts. In the present day, Harry (Tudyk) reckons with being the father of more children. Heather (Patterson) is in her Blue Avian form. Harry's attraction to her in this form has waned significantly to … nonexistent. She nonchalantly informs him that she killed the Mantid. His corpse is outside. Heather offers some of his guts to Harry, which Harry politely declines. It could be romantic. Sure, she'll only have one vagina, but if it's what Harry wants… RELATED: TV Review: Resident Alien Season 4 Later, Asta (Sara Tomko) and D'arcy (Alice Wetterlund) chat with Kayla (Sarah Podemski) at the diner. She's now up to date on all the alien madness, including Heather slaughtering the Mantid. Kayla's irritated that Asta has left her out of the loop for so long. She almost spills the alien secret to Jay (Kaylayla Raine), who's working a shift at the diner. Side note: Where's everyone's favorite dad, Dan? I demand to see him. Anyway, D'arcy reveals they're heading to Harry's cabin to bury the Mantid. They invite Kayla to join them, but she opts out. As it turns out, burying alien corpses isn't on her bucket list. Meanwhile, Mike (Corey Reynolds) describes the Mantid to Liv (Elizabeth Bowen) in intricate detail as she sketches the (now dead) creature. Liv captures his likeness so well, even though she doesn't quite understand the physicality of one who catches their roommate wearing their favorite jeans. Metal Sasquatch Liv asks Mike if he's talked to Lena yet about an alien being behind the murders. He's working his way up to it. Then, our dynamic duo learns about a strange 'sasquatch' sighting in the woods. Mike tells Liv to ensure Peter, our resident cyborg Terminator, remains hidden from the general public. After Heather emerges from the bedroom, Bridget tries to consume one of said bird alien kiddos. Thankfully, Harry pulls the child out before they become part of the contents of Bridget's stomach. Harry literally kicks Bridget out the door, which made me laugh louder than it should have. What a good dad. Yum. Harry appears unwell. When it seems like Harry might disclose his human status to Heather, the two engage in foreplay instead. They put on a show for D'arcy and Asta. Patterson and Tudyk are hilariously electric together. So funny. Deep Hole Judy Later, Asta and D'arcy enlist the aid of Judy (Jenna Lamia), who's apparently an expert gravedigger from her time working in the cemetery. 'Deep Hole Judy,' they called her. Deep Hole Judy sings a merry tune while she digs. (She doesn't know who's going in the hole, though.) RELATED: All Is Not Well in Patience in Resident Alien Season 4 Trailer At the same time, Ben (Levi Fiehler) and Kate (Meredith Garretson) both guess how D'arcy is involved with the aliens. Kate suspects she is an alien, while Ben proposes she was abducted. Kate pivots, wondering if the Greys kidnapped D'arcy's baby while she was pregnant. They decide to approach D'arcy about it, while treading carefully, of course. Mike finally divulges his truth — he believes in aliens. Not only that, but he saw an alien feasting on a deer in the woods. He describes the Mantid to Lena. She's incredulous. So, a praying mantis-type alien is behind all the murders? This drives a wedge between Mike and Lena (understandably so). Have You Watched Any Documentaries Lately? Later, Asta and D'arcy prepare to bury the Mantid after Judy dug a perfect hole with startlingly accurate dimensions. Judy has a gift. The following day, Ben and Kate meander into The 59. They try to casually — and subtly — address the alien-shaped elephant in the room. Kate claims she and Ben watched an alien documentary the other day about a race of aliens who abducted babies from their mothers' wombs. Does this resonate with D'arcy? RELATED: New TV Shows This Week (June 22 – 28) Ben reminds D'arcy about when she told him he'd been abducted by aliens. At one point, D'arcy pretends to be offended by what the Hawthornes are telling her. She excuses herself to 'get some air.' However, she's secretly panicking because Kate and Ben are clearly aware of Daisy's existence. Meanwhile, Asta finds Harry in his office with her coat. Being human sucks; he's perpetually cold. Asta learns that Harry hasn't told Heather yet about losing his alien energy. She encourages him to tell her the truth. Relationships are about honesty and transparency. She also calls Harry out on referring 90 percent of his patients to the other doctor while keeping his therapy sessions open. Harry admits it's tough having to contend with a puny human brain. Truth Hurts and Heals Then, D'arcy pops by with a revelation: Ben and Kate know their baby, well, exists. Harry reveals Kate opened up about her child during a hypnosis session. D'arcy believes they should tell the Hawthornes about Daisy. However, Asta and Harry push back, claiming the Greys will ultimately abduct the child again when they take Kate. This doesn't sit well with D'arcy. Liv is admittedly envious that everyone is seeing aliens but her. She still can't believe John saw the Loch Ness Monster. (Love this Nessie confirmation on Resident Alien .) Harry finally bares his soul to Heather — he's fully human now. The Greys stole his alien energy. Heather is accepting of this. In fact, she proposes to Harry, calling him the love of her life. Harry admits something else: He doesn't find her Blue Avian form attractive anymore. Heather's fine with remaining a human, if that makes him happy. He Said Yes Harry says yes to the proposal. Huzzah! They embrace, and Heather confesses that it'll be tricky navigating the familial waters, since her parents are quite racist against humans, but they'll make it work. After this, the pair dives into potential colors for their wedding. Heather's maid of honor will be her sister, while Harry names Asta his best man. Aw. I love their friendship. RELATED: Read our SurrealEstate recaps Suddenly, Heather's father arrives. He ain't happy about his baby girl marrying a human. He attacks Harry. Elsewhere, D'arcy is closing up the pub when Ben slips in to confront her. He realizes D'arcy might not have felt comfortable disclosing her truth to Kate, but he and Darce go waaay back. She can tell him the truth. Is there anything about aliens that Ben should know? Particularly related to his multiple abductions? D'arcy's face changes, but she remains resolute. She doesn't divulge Daisy's location. Ben asks her again. It's clear he knows she's withholding something. Ugh, I wish D'arcy knew that Ben and Kate removed their chips. After Ben departs, D'arcy calls Judy, in need of a drinking buddy. As it turns out, Judy has been in the bar this whole time. Well, this is following her dad's violent confrontation with Harry. Harry believes Heather deserves to be her true self with someone who loves her. She shouldn't have to hide her alien form just because Harry finds it repulsive. Heather doesn't want to part ways, but she understands. She asks Harry to recite his favorite poem in the language of his people one last time. It tugs at the heartstrings with its series of screeches and moans. She might not understand his belief in aliens, but she loves him anyway. Yes, they both say the l-word to each other. Awww. Mike advises Lena to exercise caution while delving into this murder investigation. Aliens are not to be trifled with. After Heather and the babies leave, Asta comforts Harry. He's experiencing his first heartbreak as a full-fledged human — one with a dairy allergy. He wonders if he'll always feel this way. Asta reassures him that it gets better. I love these two so much. Max tells his mom he plans to get ice cream with Sahar. They embrace before going their separate ways. Kate decides to purchase Girl Scout Cookies from a local troop. Gavin and Stacey and Bad Education star to visit Evesham Theatre for show
GAVIN and Stacey star Mathew Horne is set to visit Worcestershire for a 'very special event' following the success of a previous show with another celebrity comedian. Evesham Live will welcome the comedian to The Theatre Barn, Bretforton, for a one-off evening where Mr Horne will discuss his life and career on Sunday, July 6. Keith Norledge, Evesham Live's Programmer, said: "After the recent success of a similar event with Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas, we've done it again. "We're talking all things Gavin and Stacey at this very special event with none other than its lead, Mathew Horne. "This is a great coup for us as, at present, this is just one of two shows scheduled to place." More: City boxer bumps into 'charming' promoter Eddie Hearn More: The tiny Worcestershire village that has become a magnet for the rich and famous Mr Horne will appear in front of a live audience for the first time since the Gavin and Stacey series finale, which aired on Christmas Day. Mr Norledge said: "We'll also of course be touching on Mathew's other work including his comedy work with Catherine Tate and his working relationship with James Cordon." Diego Luna begs for help as Tiffany Haddish hits on him during late-night interview: 'Get me out of this one!'
Diego Luna was completely unprepared for the intense, hilarious power of Tiffany Haddish's flirting skills during their Jimmy Kimmel Live interview Tuesday night. The Andor star, who is guest-hosting the late night show this week, found himself getting increasingly flustered as the actress made unshakeable attempts to woo him throughout their chat — to the point where he even urged its house band, Cleto and the Cletones, to end the segment for him. Haddish made her feelings toward Luna known from the get-go, cheekily (and falsely) claiming that he "asked me to be his baby mama" after he complimented her in Spanish. "Not exactly!" Luna interjected following her translation. "Sadly, I do speak both languages." "You don't want to be my novio [boyfriend]?" Haddish asked. Trying to be a gentleman, Luna quickly responded, "I'm not allowed… No, no, no, I'm not doing that. Thank you very much." The actor later asked Jimmy Kimmel's cohost, Guillermo, if they could set Haddish up on a date with someone they knew, but his well-intentioned plan backfired when she just used the opportunity to focus on their connection. "I heard you single now," she said, to which Luna replied, "No, I'm not. I'm not single at all. No." He added that he is in a "very important" relationship right now, much to Haddish's disappointment. "Oh, well, maybe it was a different dude," she said, "because when I googled your name it said you was divorced and single." Luna confirmed that he is divorced but said "the single part is what's not true." Turning to Guillermo for help, he asked, "But we know many Mexicans to hook her up with, no?" But Haddish squashed that. "I mean, I can find my own Mexican — don't worry about it," she said. "I can find my own." Luna attempted to reel Guillermo back into the conversation until she pointed out that the late night comedian is married. "I saw Guillermo on that boat butt naked, and I was like, 'Ooh, Guillermo!'" Haddish cheered. "But then I had googled him and he married, so I don't even wanna look at him no more. I don't look at married men." To further accentuate her point, Haddish raised a brow and stared at Luna for a prolonged period of time. Turning to the band, Luna begged, "Cleto! This is the moment where you play a song or something! You get me out of this one somehow!" He then tried to escape Haddish's flirting by telling her that his partner was somewhere in the audience. "I'm not gonna point at her because she's not gonna feel great to…" he began, before looking into the crowd and pleading, "Can someone play my partner here?!" Pointing at an audience member, Luna continued, "There you go! That is my partner." But that just gave Haddish more ammunition. "Why is there more than one woman saying they're your partner?!" she yelled, causing a blushing Luna to sheepishly rub the back of his neck. "I want to be part of this harem! I didn't know they had harems in Mexico!" "It's modern times, you know?" Luna cheekily fired back. "These open relations —" Wrong move. "Oh, you got open relations?" Haddish asked, putting Luna on the back foot once again. "No, no, no!" he exclaimed, putting a hand to his forehead. "That's not what I wanted to say! Sorry!" But he wasn't getting away that easily. "You said it, Diego!" she replied. Exasperated, Luna continued, "Oh my God! I so need, like, commercials or something!" But Haddish insisted that Luna had to stay in their interview no matter what. "I am gonna stay in it," he agreed, "and I'm very happy you're here." Haddish made one final attempt to steal Luna's heart by performing her very own rendition of the traditional Spanish folk song "De Colores." Luna praised her, uh, interesting take afterward. Across 10 new episodes — all of which are now available to stream on Hulu — Carmy (Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White), Sydney (fellow Emmy winner Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach, also an Emmy winner), and the rest of the family are moving forward and attempting to make the restaurant a success following middling reviews that call out the chaos and inconsistency of their dishes. Their pursuit of culinary excellence in the face of yet more challenges — including dwindling operational expenses — drives the season, resulting in a compelling new chapter that makes The Bear the awards contender to watch this weekend. However, if you're looking for a more traditional drama, our other prestige picks include: Smoke: Black Bird's Dennis Lehane returns to Apple TV+ with this new series inspired by true events. Adapted from the Firebug podcast, the series follows a firefighter-turned-arson investigator who wants to be a writer (Taron Egerton, also an executive producer) and a police detective who's made one too many questionable choices (Jurnee Smollett) as they investigate two separate serial arsonists. The supporting cast includes Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Rafe Spall, Greg Kinnear, John Leguizamo, Anna Chlumsky, Hannah Emily Anderson, and Adina Porter. The first two episodes are now streaming on Apple TV+. Squid Game: Far be it from us to judge Netflix's decision to drop two seasons of its Emmy-winning drama just six months apart (though separate Emmy cycles, of course), but it does feel a bit like "too much of a good thing." Season 3, which also happens to be the South Korean drama's final season, follows Emmy winner Lee Jung-jae's Gi-hun as he attempts to stop the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and put an end to the deadly game at the heart of the series in the wake of his best friend's shocking death. All episodes are now streaming on Netflix. Ironheart: Marvel's latest series was years in the making, having been announced in late 2020 at a time when the MCU was growing mostly because Disney needed more content for its new streaming service. The six-episode series follows the minor character of Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), an engineering prodigy introduced in 2022's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as she lands back home in Chicago after her experiments get her expelled from MIT. In need of cash to fix the suit of armor she nicked on her way out, Riri teams up with a group of thieves, which goes about as well as you think it does. The first three episodes are now streaming on Disney+. Our top movie streaming pick this week is My Mom Jane, Mariska Hargitay's documentary about her mother, actress and sex symbol Jayne Mansfield. The film, which is Hargitay's directorial debut, premiered at Cannes and also screened at the Tribeca Film Festival. After a small theatrical run, it's now streaming on Max. The heartfelt and personal documentary follows Law & Order: SVU star Hargitay on a journey to better understand and feel close to her mother, whom Hargitay has no memory of, as she died in a car accident when Hargitay was 3. Through interviews with her older siblings and looking at Mansfield's archival materials, Hargitay gets a full portrait of her mother in all of her complexity, and explores how being Jayne Mansfield's daughter shaped her own life and career. If you're not into celebrity documentaries, here are some other new releases to watch this weekend on streaming or video on demand: The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie: Here's a fairly surprising fact: this is the first fully animated, theatrically released Looney Tunes movie in the franchise's 95-year history. It's a rambunctious, gag-filled ode to classic Looney Tunes that finds Daffy Duck and Porky Pig teaming up to try to stop an alien invasion. The film was initially developed for Max, which dropped it during Zaslav's Purge of 2022, and now, ironically, is back on Max after all. : Danielle Deadwyler stars in this daylight ghost story that did better than expected in theaters earlier this year. The Bear Season 4 scene-stealer plays Ramona, a mother of two who is grieving the death of her husband in a car accident. One day, a mysterious woman, shrouded in black, appears in the front yard of their house. She sits there and says 'today's the day' in a spooky singsong voice. She's very menacing. No spoilers, but it's one of those horror movies that's very literal about giving a physical form to psychological conditions. Critics praised Deadwyler's performance, but felt the plot gets too complicated in the third act. Stream in on Peacock and decide for yourself. : This psychological horror indie is the directorial debut of Destry Allyn Spielberg, youngest biological daughter of Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw. It's set in a post-apocalyptic America where a plague has wiped out most of the adult population, and follows a group of orphans who get taken in by one of the few remaining adults (Michelle Dockery). She turns out to be insane, and wants one of the teenage kids (Zoe Colletti) to become the daughter she lost. It's a tough situation for everyone. The film is streaming on Tubi. : An under-the-radar black comedy starring Nick Kroll and Andrew Rannells, I Don't Understand You finds the humor in an increasingly bad situation. The film follows Dom (Kroll) and Cole (Rannells) on an Italian vacation to celebrate their anniversary and accidentally kill an elderly woman. As they try to cover it up, they keep digging the hole deeper. The cast also includes The Gilded Age star Morgan Spurlock as the woman's son, and Amanda Seyfried as the mother of a baby Dom and Cole are planning to adopt. It's now available to rent or buy on VOD platforms including Amazon. The banger maker is back with her fourth album, Virgin, and critics are loving it so far! Listen now before all of pop music sounds like this in a year. Bruce Springsteen's sprawling Tracks II: The Lost Albums box set dropped this week to gushing reviews hailing it as a "treasure trove" of unreleased material. Such Brave Girls: The dark comedy inspired by 'bleak' dating scene
Horrible snogs. Hideous outfits. Heinous bursts of laughter, that's how real-life sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson describe the new series of their BBC comedy Such Brave Girls."Being able to have schemes and do twisted things and [to] come from a female perspective, that was really exciting," says Sadler, who wrote the Bafta-winning dark Brave Girls follows sisters Josie (Sadler) and Billie (Davidson) who, along with their mum Deb (Louise Brealey), are desperately trying to keep their heads above water financially and their relationships the rave reviews for series one, the siblings were unsure how the series would be received. "We do talk about a lot of taboo subjects," Davidson says of the comedy, which addresses mental health, parental abandonment and abortion in a not-so-sensitive series one, we see Billie go to an abortion clinic dressed as a witch while another episode sees mum Deb tell Josie her "haunting presence" is dampening Deb's boyfriend's series took home two Baftas – one for best scripted comedy and one for emerging talent: fiction for Sadler. Approaching a follow-up was "nerve-wracking", Sadler admits, explaining how the two bronze awards on her bedside table now seem to loom over her. "I feel like they're judging me," she Davidson feels the success has helped them get away with more this time around and Sadler agrees, adding: "I've really put the characters through the ringer this year. It's more depressing, but maybe more funny." 'The funniest person in the world' Davidson says the series is influenced by their upbringing: "Growing up in an all-woman household, it was just us two and Mum, I think that's the way we see life, like scheming in the bathroom."Much of the action in the show takes place in the lavatory, with the women plotting to make money or manipulate their their characters are cutting in the way they speak to each other, off-screen the sisters are far more earnest, with Sadler explaining how Davidson's off-hand comments have helped her work through plot points that she's been stuck on for adds that she feels lucky to have her sister in the show. "She's really invested," Sadler of series one, she ran through the prospective storylines with her mum."It's not her, but it's definitely inspired by stories that happened to us. So I wanted her to be happy with it," Sadler adds."She signed off everything - she's got the darkest sense of humour of all of us." 'Worst nightmare' Sadler says a lot of her writing is fuelled by the things she sees online and in the news, like the "bleak" dating the new series, mum Deb says the girls are "better dead than single" - a sentiment that runs through the series as the sisters try to cling on to their says she became interested in the idea of being intentionally single, after seeing it all over her TikTok feels this has become more common and adds that a lot of her friends are single.
