The 8 best comforters for every type of sleeper

While everyone's sleeping setups are different, a comforter is a crucial part of any bed. Once you find one that suits you, you'll likely enjoy improved sleep. What makes a great comforter is to some extent a matter of personal preference. Some people want warmth and coziness while others prefer something cool. Weight is also important to consider — I personally like one that has some heft to it, but feather-light designs are equally as popular. Similarly, the material of the outer will dictate how it feels against your skin and how temperature-regulating it is. If you share your bed with pets, you'll want one that's machine-washable or invest in a duvet cover that can be washed. Many of the comforters I tested have been designed to be temperature-regulating, which means you shouldn't get too hot in the middle of the night. Nylon for example is moisture-wicking — if you sweat during the night, the fibers in the nylon draw moisture away from the skin and transport it to the surface of the fabric, where it has space to evaporate. Lyocell (also called tencel) works in a similar way. Another fabric to consider is cotton which helps keep you cool because it's made with a loose weave, allowing heat to dissipate more easily. With all this in mind, I've spent months testing comforters across different budgets and weights to help find the best options for you. How I tested I paid attention to how the fabrics felt against my skin and how the comforter stood up against the marketing claims (did the comforter keep me warm or did its temperature-regulating powers work). Since I wanted to understand how each comforter performed on its own, I didn't use a duvet cover with any of them. In addition to my own experience of the comforters, I also asked my partner for his thoughts. I tend to get cold easily while he overheats easily, so it was valuable to have his perspective. The best comforters for 2025 are:

My Favorite Sleep Number Comforter Is on Sale Now With an Early Memorial Day Deal

Finding the right comforter for your bed can be challenging, especially if you sleep with a partner who has different sleep need. My partner is a hot sleeper. I'm not. This means I've spent many nights trying to drag the covers back up after he throws them off us. As you can probably imagine, this struggle for warmth has had a big impact on my ability to get quality sleep at night. If you're experiencing a similar struggle, don't worry, I have found something that can help. Using the Create Your Perfect Comforter, a customizable comforter from Sleep Number, was a game-changer for my sleep. This neat invention has independent sides that are joined by a zipper. Gone are the days of blanket tug-of-war, and now I sleep like a baby. Right now, you can get it on sale for Memorial Day. Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money The Create Your Perfect Comforter saved my sleep I've tried many blankets throughout the years, but most get kicked off when my partner gets too hot in the middle of the night. There is no getting around the fact that we sleep best at different temperatures, and the Create Your Perfect Comforter from Sleep Number was the solution we were searching for. With this comforter, each of us are able to choose a weight and fill that suits our needs and preferences without imposing on the other person. So, I chose the heaviest option while my partner chose the lightest. Besides the practicality, I was surprised by how buttery-smooth and extremely lightweight the comforter is. I know what you're probably thinking: How can you sleep comfortably with a zipper down the center of your blanket? Despite the halves being joined down the center, the zipper is expertly hidden with folds of fabric, so you can't feel it at night. There are three warmth options: Light, medium and extra. I opted for the down alternative filling because of my allergies, though there is a down option available. Plus, there is a one-year limited warranty and a 100-night trial so you can test it for more than three months before deciding if it's for you. There is a downside, though. Each side is sold separately, and the price varies by fill and weight. My side of the comforter is $125, and my partner's is $99, so in total, our comforter costs $225. But you can save 20% right now during Sleep Number's early Memorial Day sale. Also, this comforter is white, so you may want to add a duvet cover to match your bedroom's color scheme. Thankfully, there are corner tabs to make adding the duvet easy. Other Sleep Number blankets on sale for Memorial Day As I mentioned, my house is divided regarding sleeping preferences, and it doesn't stop at temperature. While I favor the Create Your Perfect Comforter, my partner prefers the True Temp blanket from Sleep Number. It's lighter, making it great for the hotter months. We use these blankets regularly in my household, and they're both worth the money if you're looking for high-quality comforters.
