Corbin Advisors Releases Q2'25 Inside The Buy-Side ® Earnings Primer ®
HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Corbin Advisors, a strategic consultancy accelerating value realization globally, today released its quarterly Earnings Primer ®, which captures trends in institutional investor sentiment. The survey, which marks the 63 rd issue of Inside The Buy-Side ® Earnings Primer ®, was conducted from June 3 rd to July 3 rd, 2025, and is based on responses from 69 institutional investors and sell-side analysts globally, representing ~$7.6 trillion in equity assets under management. "Following a period of radical uncertainty created by minute-by-minute tariff changes, investors have seemingly become desensitized to headline risk and are shrugging off in-flight and looming headwinds for now." Share Following last quarter's survey which found the sharpest QoQ pullback in bullishness in a decade driven by acute tariff concerns, policy trepidation, and deteriorating growth forecasts, the Voice of Investor ® captured in this quarter's survey reveals a shift toward cautious optimism, but with investors still wary of tariff impacts and consumer concerns. To that end, half of investors surveyed characterize current sentiment as Neutral to Bullish or Bullish, up from just 24% in Q1'25 but not fully back to late-2024 'Trump Bump' levels when overall bullishness registered 65%. Still, nearly one-quarter self-identify as Neutral to Bearish or Bearish, albeit down from the 40% observed last quarter. As for executives, more, 41%, describe leaders as Neutral to Bullish or Bullish, up from 29% QoQ but still well below the 72% captured in our Q4'24 survey. Rebecca Corbin, Founder and CEO of Corbin Advisors, commented, 'Following a period of radical uncertainty created by minute-by-minute tariff changes, investors have seemingly become desensitized to headline risk and are shrugging off in-flight and looming headwinds for now. Companies have become excellent at crisis management, deploying downcycle playbooks, with cost cutting the biggest defense strategy – originally to offset the slowing macro and now to mitigate tariffs – while communicating with high levels of transparency. While investors are sober about the U.S. consumer, with three-quarters expecting unemployment to worsen over the next six months, the added economic impact of ICE raids on the domestic workforce remains unknown. As we head into Q2 earnings season, companies continue to feast on robust backlogs but replenishment, in many cases, is not forthcoming. Further, evidence of pull-forward demand continues to grow. As executives prepare for Q2 earnings calls, investors are acutely focused on tariff impact, demand, specifically customer behavior and the state of the consumer, margins and pricing power, as well as capital priorities. Meanwhile, the markets have decoupled from the macro and are priced for perfection.' With executives credited for effectively managing expectations, 39% expect Q2 earnings to be Better Than consensus, more than double the rate observed last survey, while an equal number forecast In Line results, compared with 53% in the prior quarter. Regarding Q2 KPIs, most expect Stable sequential performance for Revenue and EPS, though 31% still anticipate Worsening earnings (compared with 44% last quarter). At the same time, the share of those expecting deterioration in Operating Margins and FCF continues to grow. Regarding annual guidance, most investors and analysts expect companies will Maintain 2025 outlooks across Revenue, EPS, Operating Margins, and FCF. Still, nearly one-third anticipate Lower EPS and Operating Margin guidance, at 31% and 30% respectively. Kim Forrest, Founder and Chief Investment Officer at Bokeh Capital Partners, commented, 'Companies want to make sure they have a low bar to step over, so they will not raise estimates given all of the uncertainty regarding tariffs.' Amid improved sentiment, roughly two-thirds now expect the U.S. to avoid a recession, a sharp reversal from the tariff knee-jerk reaction captured in last quarter's survey when nearly 6 in 10 were bracing for negative territory. Still, 47% expect 2025 U.S. GDP will come in Lower YoY, albeit an improvement versus 64% last quarter. Against this backdrop, investors are evenly split on prioritizing Growth or Margins, demonstrating a tale of two cities: maintaining prudent cost controls or strategically investing for growth. Tariffs and Growth & Demand trends are identified as the primary focus areas for upcoming earnings calls, noted by 53% and 48% of participants, respectively. Consumer Behavior continues to move up the list of unaided concerns, noted by 29%, a 13-point increase QoQ. Meanwhile, the top concern identified this survey is Economic Slowdown, followed by Geopolitics at 46% while Inflation sees growing apprehension. As for sector sentiment, Tech leapfrogs Healthcare to regain its spot as the most favored sector, jumping 29 points QoQ to 72%, its highest since September 2020. Meanwhile, Healthcare still ranks #2 among most bullish sectors despite a 20-point increase in bearish sentiment. On the other hand, Consumer Staples sees an influx of bears, up 21 points to its highest level on record, tied with Chemicals and Clean Energy as the most challenged sectors. Views toward Consumer Discretionary remain deeply negative, though bearishness recedes somewhat QoQ. Who Is Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Jailed Gangster Whose Mother Was Shot Dead In Punjab?
Last Updated: Harjit Kaur, the mother of jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, was shot dead by unidentified assailants on a motorcycle in Punjab's Batala on Thursday. Harjit Kaur, the mother of jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, was shot dead by unidentified assailants on a motorcycle in Punjab's Batala on Thursday evening, triggering shock and panic in the area. The gangster's mother and a person identified as Karanveer Singh were going somewhere in a Scorpio car at around 9:30 pm on Qadian Road, when three bike-borne assailants opened fire on the car. Karanveer died on the spot, while Harjit Kaur was taken to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The Davinder Bambiha gang claimed responsibility for the killings. 'Unidentified men on a motorcycle intercepted their car and opened indiscriminate fire before fleeing the scene. A case has been registered and multiple teams have been formed to track down the culprits," DSP Batala Paramveer Singh stated. Who Is Jaggu Bhagwanpuria? Jagdeep Singh, aka Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, is one of Punjab's most notorious gangsters, who was recently detained under the PTI-NDPS Act and is currently in the custody of the Punjab police in connection with the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. A resident of Punjab's Gurdaspur, Bhagwanpuria is named in 128 cases related to murder, extortion, drug and arms smuggling and gang violence. In March this year, Bhagwanpuria was airlifted from Bathinda Central Jail to Silchar jail in Assam amid high security. During the investigation, the police found out that Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's far-reaching network extended to the United States, Canada and Pakistan as well. As per reports, Bhagwanpuria is also believed to be the mentor of dreaded gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail in Gujarat. Bishnoi is believed to run his gang from behind bars by communicating through illicit phones. The attack on Bhagwanpuria's mother has been reported as the result of an ongoing gang war, as an account named 'Gopi Ghanshyampuria' claimed responsibility on behalf of the Davinder Bambiha gang. The gang said Karanveer Singh was the intended target as he ran the operations for Bhagwanpuria's gang. Police Form Teams To Nab Accused Punjab police have formed several teams to nab the accused, and a case has been registered. The police are currently pursuing several leads, including the possibility of this being an act of gang retaliation linked to Bhagwanpuria's criminal network. Authorities have heightened security in the area and appealed to the public for any information that could help track the shooters. Notably, Harjit Kaur was a former elected member of the village panchayat in Bhagwanpur, where the family hails from. Her death has raised concerns about the escalating gang rivalry in Punjab. Qualified cheer: On Shubhanshu Shukla, Axiom-4 mission
At noon on June 25, 2025 (IST), India's Shubhanshu Shukla lifted off with three other astronauts from NASA's Florida spaceport to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Axiom-4 commercial mission. This is the first time an Indian has gone to orbital space since Rakesh Sharma in 1984. If the Dragon crew capsule docks successfully with the ISS on June 26, Mr. Shukla will also become the first Indian onboard the ISS. Over the next two weeks, he and the ISS crew will perform a suite of experiments carried by the Axiom-4 mission, including eight from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Mr. Shukla is among the leading candidates to fly in India's maiden human space flight mission, Gaganyaan, currently slated for 2027. For now, the Department of Space has not articulated the reasons for spending ₹548 crore to buy Mr. Shukla's seat on Axiom-4. Against the backdrop of the ₹20,200-crore budget for Gaganyaan, Mr. Shukla's paid flight to the ISS, packaged along with advanced training for him and back-up crewmate Prasanth Nair, will give India considerable insight into human space flight and how it is coordinated ahead of mounting its own astronaut expeditions, regardless of the money spent. However, this does not spare the Department of Space and ISRO from communicating the rationale and extent of these benefits, which has yet to happen. Space flight has changed considerably between Mr. Sharma's and Mr. Shukla's flights: the stakes today are multidimensional and more demanding. Axiom is a private entity contracted with NASA and SpaceX, and which sells seats to commercial missions to the ISS. But uncertainties linger over NASA's future access to the Dragon crew capsules following Elon Musk's spat with U.S. President Donald Trump. The effects of Mr. Trump's tariffs and his willingness to honour predecessor Joe Biden's commitments to India, given the major budget cuts he has proposed for 2026, are also unclear. And the ISS is set to be decommissioned by 2030. In this world, the future of India's own space programme is caught between multiple futures. NASA and private U.S. companies, including Blue Origin, have said they would like to use Gaganyaan technologies in future missions as part of strengthening U.S.-India ties in the space sector. But even as the country balances commercial with public sector needs, it needs to remain a relevant provider of space flight services. The Indian government has signalled that it is willing to take positive steps to bolster the private sector but which, thus far, have been inadequate. Thus, once Mr. Shukla returns, ISRO's to-do list will move to the next big challenge even as public expectations of it, including transparent communication, will soar.
