I've found the perfect comfortable sandal for walking all day long (and they always get compliments)
May I say on behalf of all Londoners – what is up with the tube at the moment? I'm normally quite an advocate for London 's transport system, but in the last few weeks I've had endless drama on my way to work, and have often had to complete the last part of my commute on foot (a 48-minute walk encompassing the entire length of Hyde Park, which is not a short stroll). During these surprise hikes I've been very pleased to be wearing comfy footwear, because otherwise the whole experience would be even more annoying. Most of us have suffered the tooth-clenching feeling of strappy summer sandals rubbing our feet, which on a hot, sweaty day can be extremely painful. One pair of sandals I've had absolutely no problems with in this department is Oliver Bonas's Raffia Weave Black Gladiator Sandals, which – along with Dune's excellent Luno style – win the accolade of being my most-worn sandals this summer. £75 Shop What's great about them is that I can walk miles and miles without any sore spots – it's basically like wearing trainers, which I put down to the fact they encompass a lot of the foot with their cage-like design, and aren't flapping around like a backless sandal or flip-flop (how anyone can walk very far in the latter is completely beyond me). These sandals also go with almost everything in my wardrobe, which is handy, and I think they look good based on the fact I've had a lady chase me off the tube to ask me where they're from. All the reviews online agree with me – everyone who has posted a review of the sandals so far has given them five stars, and said things like 'I have had SO many compliments' and 'They are so comfy, I wore them all day with no rubbing or pinching.' At £75, they're not super cheap, but cost-per-wear I'm certainly getting my money's worth this summer. The question is – do I need to buy another pair for when I inevitably wear these into the ground?

Bike-sharing companies shift rental bike locations to cater to rising demand in residential areas
Bike-sharing companies are shifting their rental bikes' locations to cater to rising demand in residential areas. Instead of putting the bicycles in recreational areas like parks, the operators are placing them near transport hubs. This comes as more are using the bikes as part of their daily commute. Ivy Chok and Claudia Lim report.

Relief is coming to one of the most congested commutes in North Texas
It's going to take a long time to complete, but relief is coming to one of the most congested commutes in North Texas. Tuesday, the Texas Department of Transportation will break ground on a project to eventually give residents in a growing part of Collin County easier access to Highway 75. Jobe Dodou said he should be home with his family in Princeton instead of filling up with gas and getting back in a traffic mess on Highway 380. It's part of a daily commute to and from work that he's learned to live with. "A 30-minute commute could last up to an hour some days, " said Dodou. "You just sit and wait and wait and wait." Ask any driver in the long line of vehicles between McKinney and Princeton, and many will tell you the same thing. Princeton has doubled in size over the past five years and now considered by the U.S. Census Bureau as the fastest growing city in the nation. But Highway 380 is still mostly two lanes for traffic to and from DFW. Soon, the first section of a new highway along the route of Spur 399 will eventually stretch from Highway 75 to Highway 380 just west of Princeton, giving commuters another option. "The growth in eastern Collin County is huge, and this is something that is desperately needed," said Madison Schein, a TXDOT spokesperson. The first stretch will be from Highway 75 to Stewart Road in McKinney and will eventually extend six miles to 380. "I can't wait for it to finish," Dodou said. "Absolutely, that would be awesome." Collin County leaders said the congestion is not just a hassle for commuters; it also impacts the local economy. Collin County Commissioner Darrell Hale said the project passed several others on the list of priorities because studies found it was costing people more money. "There is a cost to congestion, as in traffic every year," said Hale. "About $1,100 to $1,200 per year just from people wasting time sitting in their cars." While the project is welcome, it will take several years to complete, and during that time, Princeton is expected to double in size.

Drivers, business owners brace for Orchard Lake Road construction starting Monday
If you take Orchard Lake Road during your commute, the stretch between 12 Mile and 13 Mile will close for one week beginning Monday, June 16. Starting June 16 through June 23, Orchard Lake Road from 12 Mile to 13 Mile in Farmington Hills will be blocked off for sewer repairs. Drivers are already bracing for an even longer commute. CBS Detroit "This is going to be atrocious. I guess I'm just going to have to take the main roads, which stop and go, stop and go, and those are already getting gunky because of 696," said Jillian Hinman. "Well, I know they have to do these things, and they have to fix them. This is a very congested area, though, so it's going to be tough," Diana Lindsay said. Business owners along this stretch are worried about the impact this week-long closure may have on their brick-and-mortar. "How can we pay rent for a week. We can't even cover the rent after that. This is crazy. I'm really shocked, and I don't know what to do," said H K Cleaners owner Khalil. CBS Detroit Meanwhile, folks who live parallel to Orchard Lake Road on Greening Street share concerns that their road will be used as a cut-through as drivers dodge designated detours. "This is a street where people are always walking, which is really wonderful, so I worry about safety," said Elle Loesch. "If it does come through here, we understand, but just don't speed. Sometimes they go like 40 miles per hour down here," David Mitchell said. CBS Detroit Though construction is frustrating, Craig Bryson, senior communications manager with the Oakland County Road Commission, understands, but says it's work that needs to be done. "Some of this work we simply could not delay any longer. Some of its federal funding that's use it or lose it. We appreciate everybody's patience, it will get done, we will get back to normal, but it's going to be a little bit of a challenge in the meantime," Bryson said. Bryson also says there will be alternative entrances to businesses along this corridor, and barricades will be set up on side streets to hopefully curb cut-through traffic. The city of Farmington Hills will also be stepping up patrols in those areas. The detour during this construction is 12 Mile Road to Farmington Road to 13 Mile Road, back to Orchard Lake Road and vice versa.
