Beal agrees to Suns contract buyout with Clippers next: reports

Three-time NBA All-Star guard Bradley Beal has agreed to a contract buyout by the Phoenix Suns that opens the door to joining the Los Angeles Clippers, according to multiple reports on Wednesday. The 32-year-old American was the third overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by Washington and traded to Phoenix in 2023 but struggled in two seasons with the Suns, setting the stage for his departure. After clearing waivers, Beal plans to sign a two-year deal worth $11 million with the Clippers, his agent told ESPN and the Arizona Republic, with a player option for the 2026-27 campaign that could make him a top free agent next year. The Suns had the NBA's most expensive roster last season but finished 36-46 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Beal's buyout marks the latest move to revamp the roster. Phoenix fired Mike Budenholzer as coach in April, replacing him last month with Cleveland assistant coach Jordan Ott. The Suns also traded star forward Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets as part of a seven-team deal earlier this month. Beal battled injuries in his two seasons with the Suns, playing 53 games in each. Last season, Beal averaged 17.0 points, 3.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals a game. It was his lowest point-per-game production since the 2014-15 campaign. Beal would join a Clippers lineup that includes guard James Harden, forward Kawhi Leonard and center Brook Lopez. A handful of NBA rivals reportedly made pitches for Beal, whose new club has enough money below the league salary cap to compete in the free agent market for the next two years. js/aks

Milwaukee Bucks officially release backup point guard

The Milwaukee Bucks made an official announcement regarding backup guard Vasilije Micic. On July 7, the pair agreed to a contract buyout. Micic was brought from the Hornets to the Bucks as part of the trade that sent Pat Connaughton and two second-round picks to Charlotte. Now, he'll be a free agent. Advertisement In the aftermath of the buyout, Micic has surveyed his options overseas rather than continue to pursue an NBA career. Micic previously played in the EuroLeague from 2014-23, averaging 13.8 points, 2.4 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game before venturing into NBA. In the NBA, after initially landing with the Oklahoma City Thunder — and not being part of the rotation — Micic landed with the Charlotte Hornets, where over the next season and a half he averaged 9.0 points and 4.7 assists per game in 66 appearances (37 starts). Per The Athletic's Eric Nehm, the decision was made in connection to the team waiving Damian Lillard in an effort to reduce the Bucks' cap hit for next season. 'As part of a buyout, Micić agreed to give back $6.1 million, which shrunk the Bucks' cap hit on his contract from $8.1 million to only $2 million,' Nehm said. ' That move enables the Bucks to stretch the contracts of both Lillard and Micić and avoid crossing over the stretched money threshold laid out in the NBA's collective bargaining agreement. No team is allowed to have more than 15 percent of its salary cap taken up by stretched money, and those two moves would help the Bucks avoid that next season.' The Bucks will now look to get busy on the market after the financial gymnastics they've done as they try to build a contender while Giannis Antetokounmpo is still in town.

Cole Anthony to sign with Bucks after contract buyout with Grizzlies

The post Cole Anthony to sign with Bucks after contract buyout with Grizzlies appeared first on ClutchPoints. Cole Anthony won't be a member of the Memphis Grizzlies. Instead, he will represent the Milwaukee Bucks. Advertisement Anthony intends on signing with the Bucks this summer after accepting a contract buyout with the Grizzlies, per ESPN's NBA insider Shams Charania. Memphis acquired him and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope from the Orlando Magic in exchange for Desmond Bane. 'Cole Anthony has agreed to a contract buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies and plans to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks after he clears waivers, sources tell ESPN. Grizzlies finalized the buyout with Jeff Schwartz and Javon Phillips of Excel Sports for Anthony's new opportunity,' Charania said. What's next for Bucks after landing Cole Anthony © Daniel Dunn-Imagn Images Anthony spent the first five years of his career with the Magic. Throughout 320 appearances, he averaged 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. He shot 41.9% from the field, including 34.5% from beyond the arc, and 84.7% from the free-throw line. Advertisement Despite being active in the Magic's rotation throughout each regular season, his presence in the playoffs wasn't as frequent. Playing 24.8 minutes in each regular-season contest, his playing time goes down to 12.8 minutes per game in the playoffs. Anthony's role wasn't going to fit with Memphis considering the logjam at the point guard position. The Grizzlies already have star guard Ja Morant and have found a noteworthy young player on the rise in Scotty Pippen Jr. This would have reduced Anthony's role, making the contract buyout a reasonable one. The Bucks do improve at the guard position. After waiving and stretching the remainder of Damian Lillard's contract, they had an open spot available. This granted the chance for Anthony to enter the equation and take the spot. Milwaukee now has a backcourt featuring Anthony, Kevin Porter Jr. and Gary Trent Jr. The trio will look to assist Giannis Antetokounmpo in making noise in the Eastern Conference. The squad is coming off a first-round exit to the Indiana Pacers for the second consecutive year.
