Charges laid after house fire, police cruiser ramming and pursuit near Prince Albert
Saskatchewan RCMP say three people are facing a minimum of nine charges each after an alleged crime spree involving arson, a high-speed car chase, intentional crashes, weapons and stolen property. It all happened on Friday, July 18 near Prince Albert, Sask., according to an RCMP news release. The accused include a 26-year-old woman and 28-year-old man from Sturgeon Lake First Nation, and a 20-year-old woman from Prince Albert. Prince Albert RCMP received reports of a fire at a home in Little Red River, Sask., on Friday morning. When officers, firefighters and EMS arrived, they found the house fully engulfed in flames. Two occupants of the building had escaped and were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the house's occupants, one or more people had gone into the house, discharged a can of bear mace, stole multiple items, set the house on fire and took off in a vehicle. Just after 8:00 a.m. CST, officers found people matching the descriptions of the suspects outside another home on Sturgeon Lake First Nation. As police approached and activated their lights, the suspects took off in a car and a truck, RCMP say. Officers tried to pull them over, but the drivers didn't comply. The truck continued to flee and the car rammed into an occupied RCMP cruiser multiple times before taking off again, police say. The pursuit continued until the car came to a stop. Three suspects were arrested and officers searched the vehicle. RCMP say officers found a butane torch lighter, bear mace, an edged weapon, ammunition and stolen property. Police say officers also saw the suspects in the car throw something out of a window during the pursuit and later recovered a loaded, sawed-off rifle and a magazine. No officers were injured. Charges against the three suspects include assault on a police officer with a weapon, mischief over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and multiple firearms offences. On top of that, the 26-year-old woman is charged with arson, administering a noxious thing (bear mace), assault with a weapon and robbery. The 28-year-old man is also facing charges of robbery and not complying with a probation order. The three made their first appearance in Prince Albert provincial court on Monday.

Two dead in Spokane Valley crime spree, including suspect and good Samaritan who intervened
Jun. 15—Police shot and killed a man in Spokane Valley after he went on a crime spree Sunday morning that included killing a good Samaritan, stealing a family's vehicle and intentionally hitting a motorcyclist with it, officials said. The crime spree started across the state line in Kootenai County around 8:30 a.m. Sheriff Bob Norris said at a news conference that a call came in saying a suspect stole a vehicle from a father and daughter on East Sprague Avenue near Whistle Stop Coffee Shop and then fled east toward Idaho. Police chased after the stolen Dodge Challenger, and a news release said the suspect reached an estimated 140 mph. In the Stateline area, deputies said the suspect was doing donuts with the stolen vehicle before seeing a motorcyclist and intentionally striking him. Norris said the motorcyclist was moderately injured but will be OK. The suspect attempted to steal multiple other vehicles, and at one point a bystander tried to help one of the car owners, when the suspect pulled out an AR-15-style rifle, shooting and killing the bystander, Norris said. The suspect then fled back west on Interstate 90 toward Spokane Valley and allegedly shot out a window at a pursuing law enforcement car. Officers deployed a spike strip, which flattened the suspect's tires, but he continued to drive around 80 mph before crashing into a bystander's vehicle and a Washington State Trooper car that was there for an unrelated crash. The man got out of the vehicle at the intersection of Trent Avenue and Pines Road carrying a firearm. Officers then opened fire, killing him. He was given medical aid, the release said, but was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff's office said the suspect's name will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office, along with details on the death . Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels said the suspect did not have a strong criminal background and the motive for the crime is unknown. Police will continue to investigate, and the road was expected to remain remain closed until that is complete. "I want to emphasize how professionally, how swiftly and how decisively law enforcement acted in this very dangerous moment," Nowels said. "They didn't hesitate, and I'm very proud of them.

Two teenagers have been charged with aggravated robbery after one of the alleged offenders dragged a man onto a main Darwin road before the pair stole his vehicle. Police alleged the 14-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl went on to use the stolen vehicle in a series of ram raids across the city in the early hours of Saturday morning. The pair have received more than 20 charges combined, including breach of bail, aggravated robbery, property damage and drink driving. In a statement, NT police said at the time of the theft a warrant was out for the arrest of the teenage boy after he "allegedly fled the courts and removed his electronic monitoring device prior to his court appearance" the day prior. Police said the incident began at around 1:35am on Saturday morning, when the two teenagers allegedly approached the man at the BP petrol station on Bagot Road in Coconut Grove. "The male youth allegedly grabbed the victim from behind and demanded his vehicle keys before a struggle ensued," the statement read. It is alleged the teenagers then threatened the man with a knife, before he handed over his keys and the pair drove off in his Toyota Camry. The vehicle was then allegedly used in a crime spree across Darwin, causing damage to multiple businesses. "A short time later, the stolen Toyota Camry was allegedly used to ram through fire escape doors at a business in Eaton, where the offenders entered the premises and stole a quantity of alcohol," police said. Police said the pair then drove to the Darwin Waterfront precinct, where they allegedly ram raided a convenience store and stole cigarettes, before fleeing the scene. Two hours after the pair allegedly stole the car, the Strike Force Trident and Dog Operations Unit spotted the vehicle travelling through Coconut Grove and attempted to apprehend it, but the vehicle did not stop. Police chased the car through Millner and back into Coconut Grove, where the teenagers allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. "A short foot pursuit was initiated, and both youths were apprehended without further incident," police said. Both teenagers are set to face Darwin Local Court on Monday.
