Mass shooting in Mexico leaves several dead and injured
STORY: :: June 24, 2025 A shooting on Tuesday night in Mexico's Irapuato left at least 11 people dead and more injured. :: June 25, 2025 That was according to local authorities on Wednesday. The attorney general's office in Guanajuato, the gang-plagued state where Irapuato is located, said several people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, and that one casualty was a minor, aged 17. Local media reported that the shooting happened during an evening party for a Catholic holiday. A witness of the shooting said the gathering started peacefully before chaos erupted. "We were completely calm, enjoying a family party for San Juan's Day. A celebration we have every year with our family and loved ones, when suddenly, out of nowhere, we were attacked by a group of people. We had to flee and hide." Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said in a press conference on Wednesday that the incident was a regrettable multiple homicide and that it is under investigation. Guanajuato, has long been one of Mexico's most violent regions, where criminal groups fight over control of the drugs trade and commit other crimes. On Tuesday, five other people were killed in different parts of the state, according to the attorney general's office.
