Dark chocolate almonds recalled over potentially fatal allergen contamination

Grocery chain Meijer has announced the recall of certain packages of dark chocolate almonds due to contamination with an undeclared allergen. The company announced the recall June 13, stating that packages of Frederik's Dark Chocolate Almonds may also contain dark chocolate cashews, according to a press release. Those with a cashew allergy run the risk of experiencing a life-threatening reaction if they consume the product, as the nuts were not declared on the packaging. Two different packages of Frederik's Dark Chocolate Almonds were affected by the recall: The black stand-up pouches sold at Meijer stores in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, and Wisconsin with a sell-by date of 05/07/2026 or 05/28/2026, and the 8-count, 1.5-ounce multi-pack boxes with a sell-by date of 05/05/2026. No illnesses have been reported. Customers who have purchased the product are urged to return it to Meijer to claim a full refund. Meijer's statement is the latest in a slew of recalls impacting various foods and chains. Turkana Food Inc issued a recall on 352 cases of its Floria Dried Apricots, according to a press release shared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Thursday. The product was recalled because it contains an undeclared allergen, sulfites, or 'chemicals used as preservatives' added to foods, beverages, and medications to prevent them from spoiling, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Floria Dried Apricots impacted by the recall were sold at stores in 19 states: Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. The product has the LOT number 440090478-15-333 on the bottom portion of the packaging. The UPC Label 2539560010 is marked by a sticker on the side of the packaging. The expiration date of November 2026 is also on the bottom of the packaging. Then, ice cream company Breyers recalled one of its flavors following customer concerns that there was a mislabeling error. On Tuesday, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed in a report that 6,668 cases of Breyers Chocolate Truffle Ice Cream were voluntarily recalled by Unilever Manufacturing on June 2 after it was found that the tubs actually contained Rocky Road ice cream. The Chocolate Truffle flavor has an allergen label that reads, 'may contain tree nuts,' while the Rocky Road flavor declares almonds as one of the ingredients. In a statement made to People, a representative for Breyers said, 'People with an almond allergy should not consume the product due to risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. The safety and quality of our products are our top priority. For more information, consumers can visit or call 1-800-931-2826.'

Chocolate date bars with pistachio and raspberry

This is my twist on a Palestinian ma'amoul. Made with the traditional filling of rich dates and nuts, and flavoured with hints of rose water, cardamom and anise, the bars are drizzled with dark chocolate. These are guaranteed to be popular. Little do people know the bars are vegan. Requires cooling, chilling and setting time. Overview Prep time 20 mins Cook time 15 mins Serves 24 bars Ingredients 250g walnuts 60g date paste (or 60g pitted medjool dates, finely chopped, plus 1 tbsp sunflower oil) 140g vegan chocolate digestive biscuits, broken into fine crumbs (about 9 biscuits) 100g dark muscovado sugar ¾ tsp ground cardamom 1 tsp ground cinnamon ¾ tsp ground anise seed (aniseed) ½ tsp mahleb (a powdered spice derived from cherry stones, available from 2 tbsp runny honey or agave syrup 2 tbsp rose water 200g vegan dark chocolate (70 per cent cocoa solids), broken into roughly 1cm pieces 5g freeze-dried raspberries 2 tbsp pistachios, finely crushed Method Step Preheat the oven to 190C/170C fan/gas mark 5, and line a baking dish with baking parchment. Step Place 250g walnuts in this dish and toast for 8-10 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool completely. Once cool, finely chop in a food processor – be sure not to over-process. Step If using dates rather than the paste, put 60g pitted, finely chopped medjool dates and 1 tbsp sunflower oil into a small pan and place on a low heat. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently, to form a mushy, sticky paste. Remove from the heat and set aside. Step Place the chopped walnuts, 140g vegan chocolate digestive biscuits, broken into fine crumbs, 100g dark muscovado sugar, ¾ tsp ground cardamom, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, ¾ tsp ground anise seed, ½ tsp mahleb and ½ tsp salt in a medium bowl and mix well to combine. Step Spread the mixture on a lined oven tray, about 30 x 20cm, and press it down firmly. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight. Step Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cookie base and sprinkle with 5g freeze-dried raspberries and 2 tbsp finely crushed pistachios. Leave for 1 hour to firm up before cutting into squares.

Trader Joe's Is Now Selling Dubai Chocolate At The Lowest Price We've Ever Seen

Gird your loins, people—another grocery chain has entered the Dubai chocolate chat. This time, it's Trader Joe's. (Lucky for me, I live two blocks away.) Instagram account @traderjoesobsessed posted about the rumored drop yesterday, stating that Dubai chocolate bars will be available for purchase at the grocery store as early as next week for just $3.99. That's a great deal! (Though they probably can't beat our Dubai chocolate brownies.) Of note, the new bars will apparently be made of dark chocolate only, leaving some milk chocolate fans disappointed. "Why did it have to be dark and not milk?" asked one person on the post. "Ughhh, why do they have to make everything dark chocolate," commented another. While there were a few naysayers in the comment section, the majority were thrilled with the news. "Omg! Omg! Can't wait," wrote one shopper. "Love that it's dark chocolate 😍" another wrote. "Can't wait to try this!!" one eager TJ's fan exclaimed. "Please delete this post! Please let's just make this a secret okkkk," one person suggested, hoping to hoard a stash to herself. (I don't blame you.) While we technically don't know what exact day the chocolate bars are set to make their way to store shelves, you can bet I'll be peeking out my window all week long to see when the lines start forming. Compared to every other place that sells them, Trader Joe's version is an unequivocal steal. Halva, dark chocolate and sesame cookies

Crunchy, chewy, salty, sweet, this cookie has it all. If you've never tried halva before, I highly recommend hunting it down – it's a sweet sesame treat that's sort of crumbly and soft in texture. When baked into this cookie it becomes a perfectly caramelised, nutty, chewy addition. Requires freezing time. Overview Prep time 20 mins Cook time 15 mins Serves 20 cookies Ingredients 250g unsalted butter, softened 300g soft light brown sugar 1 egg 200g halva, cubed 2 tsp vanilla bean paste 250g plain flour 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda 150g oats (100g blended into a 'flour', 50g left whole) 1 tbsp sesame seeds, plus more for rolling 100g good-quality dark chocolate, roughly chopped a little sea salt, for sprinkling
