'You've got an unelected Elon Musk who has been appointed by the president to go in and totally tear a part the government,' Nell Toensmann tells Action News Jax. 'We're finding so much corruption that's been going on for decades,' shares Frank Liliskis. He tells us Fine who has his vote. While the country eyes this race to find out who will replace the former congressional 6 seat holder, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, political analysts are also using this race to determine how Americans view President Trump's policies early on in his second term. Moreno's bill to fix asylum laws is blocked by Democrats
WASHINGTON (WKBN) — Monday night in Washington, newly-elected Senator Bernie Moreno took to the podium. The Republican Senator was looking for unanimous consent for the Refugees Using Legal Entry Safely (RULES) Act. 'If you're an asylum seeker you must file a request for asylum at a legal port entry,' Moreno said while explaining the act. The act wouldn't allow the release of asylum applicants into the United States. 'We're going to have them wait in the prior country and 180 days, which is currently the law which is being violated. Sometimes it's five or six years, but they wait until their asylum claim is heard,' Moreno said. The RULES Act wouldn't allow for second chances after an asylum application is rejected. It also doesn't allow people who've entered the U.S. illegally to claim asylum. While referencing his democrat colleagues, he said there were two people in the entire chamber who are naturalized U.S. citizens, himself and Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii. 'We know firsthand what it means to be able to be accepted by this country,' Moreno said. 'Let's come together one time and show the American people we don't have to fight about everything.' Senator Moreno said it's a disgrace to those who want to come to America to have to do it illegally. 'Pay a drug cartel to smuggle them across Mexico. Raped along the way, beaten along the way, every last cent they have robbed from them and their families,' Moreno said. In the end, the Democrats objected to the bill.
