Anti-Elon Musk protesters are coming for Tesla's new diner
Tesla just opened a retro diner in Los Angeles, so it was only a matter of time before anti-Elon Musk protesters caught wind. The long-awaited retrofuturistic diner, complete with giant outdoor screens for drive-in movies, dozens of Supercharger stalls, and an Optimus robot serving popcorn, opened to huge lines in West Hollywood on July 21st. Protesters are planning on demonstrating outside the newly opened diner on July 26th, according to the Action Network website, which has served as a repository for the so-called Tesla Takedown movement. '[Elon Musk] wants to celebrate his reign of terror in OUR CITY, Occupied Los Angeles, with a cheesy Tesla-branded diner exclusively for his legion of conmen stock-pumpers and MLM influencer tryhards?' the website reads. 'WE SAY HELL NO.' '[Elon Musk] wants to celebrate his reign of terror in OUR CITY, Occupied Los Angeles, with a cheesy Tesla-branded diner exclusively for his legion of conmen stock-pumpers and MLM influencer tryhards?' Since early February of this year, Tesla has been the target of protesters opposed to Musk's involvement with the Trump administration. As Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) sought to eliminate humanitarian aid programs and fire tens of thousands of government workers, demonstrators have expressed their rage by picketing outside Tesla showrooms and demanding Tesla owners sell their vehicles. Others have taken things further, defacing Tesla vehicles with anti-Musk slogans, smashing windows, and even setting some Tesla property on fire. Musk's allies in the Trump administration are threatening to prosecute anyone caught defacing Tesla vehicles by classifying the acts as 'domestic terrorism.' Musk officially stepped back from DOGE in May, although he claims that he will remain involved with the group in some capacity. The following month, Musk and President Donald Trump had a public falling out, with the two engaged in a war of words. Trump has threatened to deport Musk, while Musk has accused the president of being on Jeffrey Epstein's alleged client list. Despite all the drama, anti-Musk protesters are trying to keep up the energy. Joel Lava, who has been helping lead the Tesla Takedown protests in Los Angeles, said he expects a large crowd outside the diner this Saturday. 'It's in West Hollywood,' Lava told The Verge. 'I think it's safe to say that Elon Musk is not a popular figure in West Hollywood. So I don't think it's going to be hard to protest it.' 'I think it's safe to say that Elon Musk is not a popular figure in West Hollywood.' While the weekly crowds may have diminished slightly from their peak in the spring, and while Musk may have distanced himself from the Trump administration, the Tesla Takedown movement hasn't given up. Lava said that dozens of people still show up every week to protest outside of Tesla locations in LA, buoyed by news of Tesla's worsening earnings statement and falling sales. He also cited recent reports of food that was supposed to ship out with USAID being left to rot in warehouses thanks to DOGE's funding cuts. And the news that Musk may start his own political party has further motivated the activists to keep up their presence, Lava said. 'Yes, our numbers have dwindled, but they have stayed strong,' he said. 'We've already built a community, [and] people will show up.' Lava said the tactics will be similar to those used in protests outside of Tesla dealerships and charging stations: raising awareness about Musk's efforts to decimate humanitarian aid and destroy the federal government. 'I think our simple message is Tesla funds fascism,' Lava said. 'You're going into this cafe, and you're giving a $300 billion man your own money to help destroy the fabric of our country. That's why we don't want you buying Tesla. And that's why you shouldn't go into this cafe.' Posts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed. Edinburgh set to welcome 'classic American' motel and diner as chain expands
Edinburgh is set to welcome a new 'classic American' motel and diner as a chain expands into the capital. Mollie's has confirmed a new site at Edinburgh park, becoming the fourth property from the brand in the UK. It will sit close to Edinburgh Park Station, and is scheduled to open in 2028 - subject to planning permission. The chain is inspired by the traditional motels in the US, and currently operates in Bristol and Oxfordshire, with a Manchester location opening later this year. The development aligns with City Plan 2030, Edinburgh's Local Development Plan, which envisions turning the Edinburgh Park and South Gyle area from a business-centric zone into a more mixed-use district. Elon Musk wants to expand Tesla diners to major cities worldwide
Elon Musk has proposed expanding Tesla 's new 1950s-style Hollywood diner into a global network, including at Supercharger sites. The diners would offer American comfort food and allow electric vehicle owners to charge their cars while dining. A prototype 'Optimus' robot served popcorn at a pre-launch event for the Hollywood diner, which features 32 fast charging stations and LED screens. Musk also announced plans for a second Tesla diner at Starbase, his SpaceX launch complex in South Texas. The expansion idea comes as Tesla faces declining sales and profits, attributed to increased competition and political repercussions from Musk's association with Donald Trump.

Elon Musk is looking at creating a network of Tesla diners to charge electric vehicles and fill you up on long-distance trips
If Elon Musk has his way, you could soon be able to stop off at a Tesla-branded 1950s-style diner to charge your electric vehicle while eating American comfort food served by a humanoid robot. So suggested the far-right tech tycoon on his social network X on Monday when he floated the idea of expanding Tesla's newly-opened Los Angeles restaurant into a nationwide network. "If our retro-futuristic diner turns out well, which I think it will, Tesla will establish these in major cities around the world, as well as at Supercharger sites on long distance routes," said Musk."An island of good food, good vibes & entertainment, all while Supercharging!" Musk, currently estimated to be the world's richest person, has a long history of making ambitious promises for new services or products that never actually pan out. Still, at least one Tesla diner is now open for business on Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, featuring 32 fast charging stations, balcony dining, and two 45-foot LED movie screens that sync to the sound system in Tesla cars. At a pre-launch event on Saturday, patrons were even served popcorn by a prototype of Tesla's 'Optimus' robot — albeit probably remotely operated by a human worker, as was the case when Tesla demonstrated the bots last October. "This will become normal in a few years," Musk claimed. On Monday, Musk also said he would open a second diner at Starbase, the south Texas launch complex run by his rocket company SpaceX. The idea of a Tesla diner has been in the works for years, with Musk describing it in August 2023 as "Grease meets the Jetsons with Supercharging". The food is classic American diner fare: burgers, hot dogs, milkshakes and fries. Tesla has suffered a drastic worldwide drop in sales and profits this year due to increasing competition from more affordable brands and political blowback from Elon Musk's alliance with President Donald Trump. After donating more than $291m to Donald Trump and other Republicans in the 2024 election cycle, the mogul personally took a chainsaw to federal government departments as effective head of DOGE. Since then, has done little to improve the company's share price, which dropped as low as 42 per cent from the start of the year before recovering modestly.

Proposal to move former diner turned APD substation to be discussed at public meeting
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A proposal to move a former diner now being used as an Albuquerque Police substation in Nob Hill will be presented at a community meeting next week. The plan includes moving the former Little House Café in Nob Hill's Triangle Park, located on the corner of Girard and Central Avenue, to the Route 66 Visitor Center on the city's westside. The building was originally a Valentine Diner, one of the many prefabricated diners that became popular in the 1930s and could be easily moved. 'When we move it to a place like the Visitor Center, where we will have staff starting later this summer, we can open it to the public so that people can actually go into this space,' Shelle Sanchez, the director of Arts and Culture for the City of Albuquerque, told KRQE in a previous interview in June. It remains unclear how much the move will cost. Officials plan to discuss the proposal at the Route 66 Visitor Center Commission Meeting on Tuesday, July 22. The meeting will take place at 3 p.m. at the Route 66 Visitors Center, 12300 Central Ave. SW, and is open to the public. At the time of publication, the agenda for the meeting had not been posted; however, KRQE confirmed with the city that the diner proposal will be discussed. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
