‘Entitled': Damning photo shows what's wrong with dog owners
An Aussie has had enough of an anonymous dog owner who repeatedly leaves their pet's droppings on the footpath outside their house. Taking to Reddit, the resident of a quiet suburban lane vented about the unpleasant and recurring problem and shared how they are trying to curb it. 'Our street is only several houses long. They're probably taking their dog to poop every morning and leaving the sh*t on the sidewalk every time,' the author explained. They then posted a photo showing just how bad the issue has become. There appears to be at least eight separate incidents, spaced along the path, making it clear this isn't a one-off occurrence. Neighbour's fed up response The poster decided to write a blunt message in chalk across the footpath that said: 'BAG YOUR DOG SH*T,' hoping the public shaming would finally make the offending owner do the right thing. While they admitted they 'felt stupid' retaliating in this way, they were fed up, especially considering 'you can get 50 bags for $2 at the shops'. 'I don't want to pick up your dog's faeces every other day,' they ranted, adding that chalk wasn't their preferred solution. 'Believe me, if I knew who it was, I'd be shovelling it into a bucket for a few weeks and ditching it on their driveway.' Commenters weigh in The post was flooded with hundreds of people chiming in to share similar experiences and how they dealt with it. One person summed up the sense of helplessness many people feel towards these situations. 'We had people having their dogs constantly do this on the footpath next to our side gate,' they said. 'Told the council and they did nothing. We got cameras and put up a sign telling them to stop doing it and council comes by the next morning and rips our sign and poster out'. Others also tried taking the matter into their own hands. 'Security cameras and posted them on the local noticeboard page,' said one. Another shared a recipe for a DIY dog repellent, while others said they have physically left the excrement in people's letterboxes before. Others were simply horrified by the sight. 'Wow, just saw the second picture. Too far,' said one. 'So disgusting and frustrating,' someone else empathised. 'Some, not all, dog owners are the most entitled pieces of sh*t in society,' another lamented. Fines for not picking up after your dog If you get caught not picking up after your dog in Australia, you could be hit with some hefty fines, though the amount depends on where you live and which council you fall under. In New South Wales, an on-the-spot fine for failing to remove your dog's poo can start at $275, but if it goes to court, you could face up to $880. In Queensland, the fine can reach up to $333, and in Victoria, penalties range from $100 to $500. Impacts of dog waste Australia has some of the highest pet ownership rates in the world, which increased during Covid – with almost half of all households owning dogs – meaning issues like this are only going to rise. While abandoned dog faeces are an annoyance, they can also have a significant impact on local environments and wildlife. Leaving dog waste uncollected can introduce harmful parasites and bacteria into the environment, posing risks to other animals. If the waste gets into waterways, it can act as fertiliser in aquatic ecosystems, leading to excessive algae growth that harms aquatic life. A report by the CSIRO this year found that even when it's not directly eaten, dog faeces can act as scent markers, signalling the presence of predators. This can cause native mammals and birds to avoid otherwise suitable habitats, reducing biodiversity and disrupting breeding and feeding patterns.

Normal-looking 3-bed house leaves people horrified by what's hiding in the back garden – as people cry ‘it must stink'
FROM the outside, this semi-detached house for sale in County Durham doesn't look too out of the ordinary. However, people have been left grossed out at the photo of the back garden of this £130,000 property. 3 While the three-bedroom pad has a walled garden with turf, it's the upkeep that has left internet viewers scratching their heads. The photo, which was featured on the listing page, showed the garden appearing to be completely covered in dog poo. The pooch in question was also in the shot, and it seemed like a lot of cleaning would need to take place to restore the faux grass. According to the listing: 'The well-kept home features 3 bedrooms, three-piece bathroom, spacious lounge, kitchen and rear garden space.' The image has since been deleted from the site, but not before TikTok users had screenshotted it and shared their amazement. The @housinghorrors account wrote on a video which has nearly 970,000 views: 'I've never seen so much dog poop in my life.' Zooming in on the dog, he wrote: 'There is the culprit. 'He's actually pretty cute, it's not his fault. The owners have obviously not cleaned up after him.' Many people were shocked at the sight, with one saying: 'It's plastic grass too, that will absolutely stink.' Another added: 'Poor neighbours.' You'd never know I live in a council house thanks to how good it looks - I shopped in IKEA & an Amazon tip saved me cash And a third commented: 'The estate agent probably gave them fair warning to clean it up before going to take pictures.' And one joked: 'The dog showcasing his artwork.' Aside from the poop, the home is said to have 'valuable amenities in close proximity' and offers 'rewarding rental returns.' INCREASE YOUR HOME'S VALUE The Sun spoke to Jonathan Rolande, property expert from the National Association of Property Buyers, who offered his top tip for selling your home - and it involves buying flowers and plants. Sourcing up your space with some greenery will not only make it look better, but can also increase the value of your home by thousands of pounds. Jonathan said: "You can spend about £200 on plants, and they can change the look of a room and make it feel fresh and bright. 3 "And you can take them with you afterwards. "It increases the saleability. You buy some nice plants, clean the rooms and the estate agent photos will look a lot better. "This means you get more people looking around, more competition, and you can barter the price more.' Employing Jonathan's tip could see you see you boost your sale price by roughly £2,800, all for minimal investment. Jonathan added: "People buy into the dream of a house, the idea that you could move yourself in there. "You can't put a price on that. That's what sells the property.'

Piles of dog poop bags being left in peculiar places in Cambridge, Ont.
Dog poop bags were seen under a mailbox in Cambridge, Ont. in this undated photo. (Courtesy: Christopher Giesler) Dog poop has been popping up in places where it's not supposed to be in Cambridge, Ont. and a city councillor is pleading with people to pick the bags up. 'We go for walks in the neighbourhood and I see bags of dog poop in really strange places,' said Ward 5 councillor Sheri Roberts. Bags of doggy doo-doo were recently found under community mailboxes in the West Galt neighbourhood. 'The most recent concern was raised by a resident in my ward, and it was a fairly substantial pile of dog poop bags,' said Roberts. 'And I just thought enough is enough.' (Courtesy: Christopher Giesler) Roberts says she has seen the poop bags stuck between fences or piled at the edges of lamp posts too. She says it is frustrating considering people are going to the effort of bagging the dung to begin with. 'It's just a bit of a headscratcher for me. I'm not really understanding that. To me, as a dog owner, the more onerous or gross part of it is picking up the poop,' said Roberts. When it comes to any repercussions, Roberts says bylaw officers may ticket people if they are caught dropping the 'droppings' in places they aren't supposed to be. But there isn't a specific department with the city responsible for picking up dog owners' improperly placed poop bags. 'Honestly, there isn't really anyone that's responsible for just picking up other than just good neighbours,' said Roberts. With a hot stretch of weather ahead, people may be less willing to tidy up foul-smelling feces. So, before it gets to that, the reminder is clear – pick up the muck, don't be a schmuck.
