Mother, 28, who punched policewoman then bragged 'she deserved it' is fined just £160 - after arguing 'I only hit her once'
A mother who bragged that a policewoman 'deserved' being punched in the face after beating her up in the street has escaped with a £160 fine after a judge blamed drink for her behaviour. Lucy Cleary 28, who lives off state handouts, was said to have rained multiple blows upon PC Robyn Lowe's head in a drunken rage. The incident came as she was being detained for throwing glasses and chairs around a Wetherspoons pub. Cleary was eventually overpowered by PC Lowe using incapacitant spray. But when other officers arrived, she said: 'Mate, she deserved the punch in the face.' Later at the police station she added: 'I hope that bizzy got a good punch because she deserved it.' The officer sustained a lump to her left eyebrow. Cleary, from Moulton, Cheshire, faced up to 16 weeks jail under sentencing guidelines after she admitted common assault, criminal damage and assaulting an emergency worker. But she walked free from Chester magistrates court with a 12 month community order after District Judge Ian Barnes accepted her plea that she only struck the officer once. He told her: 'That punch was used against an emergency worker, a police officer just doing their job and I have seen the injury. 'They have a nasty lump to their head afterwards. 'You were also making comments in the police station suggesting perhaps there was little remorse. 'But I expect that was in drink and I suspect on reflection you have different views.' The incident occurred on April 15 at 11.15pm after Cleary was thrown out of the Penny Black pub in Northwich following an altercation with another customer. But she returned shortly afterwards to continue the argument, pushing the bar manager when he intervened, prosecutor Annika Livermore said. 'She started to throw drink glasses about the venue narrowly missing other customers,' she added. 'Chairs were also thrown by the defendant Miss Cleary.' Police were called but Cleary ran at PC Lowe, who was responding to the incident. 'She pushed her away and at one point had her hand on the officer's chest, throat and face,' Ms Livermore said. 'Miss Cleary tried to run away again but PC Lowe pursued on foot and and caught up with the defendant who continued behaving in an aggressive manner. 'She pushed the officer and punched the officer several times to the head. 'The officer sustained a lump to the eyebrow.' When back-up officers arrived, the court heard Cleary told one: 'Mate, she deserved the punch in the face.' After being taken to a police station Cleary added: 'I hope that bizzy got a good punch because she deserved it.' Cleary, who has no previous convictions, gave no comment in police interview. Her lawyer Hannah Kelly said: 'It was one push and one punch and she accepts the injury.' The court heard Cleary is a single mother with three children living on benefits. Under the terms of her sentence, Cleary must perform up to 10 rehabilitation activity days. She was also ordered to pay £300 in compensation to PC Lowe and £50 to the pub for the damage she caused. The judge banned her from going to the Penny Black pub for 12 months. Another woman is facing trial later this year over the fracas. Since 2022, assaulting an emergency worker can carry a maximum sentence of two years' imprisonment. However under sentencing guidelines, courts have to consider shorter sentences, fines or community orders for offences with a lower level of harm or culpability.

Kyle Sandilands' ex Imogen Anthony reveals scary taxi ordeal in Sydney: 'How is this even allowed this to happen?'
Imogen Anthony has shared a harrowing story on on social media after a drunk man got into her Uber ride and refused to leave. The model and former girlfriend of Kyle Sandliands took to Instagram on Monday to document the terrifying ordeal with videos, which showed her persistently asking the uninvited taxi rider to leave the vehicle. 'Wrong car. Out you get,' the 34-year-old could be heard telling the man, whose words were so slurred that he was indecipherable as he argued with Imogen. 'This is not your car, this is not your car,' she stipulated. Imogen detailed the experience in the caption of the Instagram story, writing that she'd 'jumped out to grab ciggies on the way home' when the 'random' jumped into the car she had hired. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Why the driver even allowed this to happen is beyond me' she wrote. In a follow-up clip, Imogen could be seen interrogating the driver, asking him why he didn't intervene. 'There a reason you let him in then? Or he just opened the door and you let him in?' she questioned the driver. 'Yeah,' he said, to which she replied, 'Yeah, okay. Very strange. Did you ask him for his name? Obviously not.' Imogen then took aim at Sydney, calling it a 'joke' in the video's caption. In another clip, she said: 'This driver knew this guy wasn't part of my car. He'd already picked me up. 'The driver's not asked for the name of the booking. He just let him sit in the back with all my personal effects and still wouldn't really help me get him out the car. I asked this guy multiple times.' She then added that the driver should've 'picked up' on the fact that the man was drunk and should've helped her get him out of the car. Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Uber for comment. This isn't the first time the Aussie star has had a negative taxi experience. A year ago, Imogen shared a scathing video to social media of her losing it at her allegedly reckless Uber driver. The glamorous influencer posted footage to Instagram of her riding in the backseat of an Uber, as she lashed out at the driver for disobeying the road rules. 'I don't care if you think you are going the speed limit. You have been having a phone conversation with your girlfriend the entire time,' a frustrated Imogen told the driver. She then accused the employee of breaking several other road rules, including driving under the speed limit and 'swerving all over the road'. 'If I ask you to at least do the speed limit then give me the courtesy of doing that. You're pretty much having phone sex the entire time and I am not into it. 'Next time you are going to do that, at least ask people if they are okay with it, that's the least you could do.' The off-screen driver could then be heard responding with 'no worries' to Imogen's request.

Brit dad, 32, found dead hours after being escorted off flight & separated from family on Turkey hols
A BRIT dad was found dead from a fall in Turkey just hours after being escorted off a plane for being drunk. Builder Ben Crook from Caerphilly, South Wales had been in Antalya with his partner and two kids to celebrate his 32nd birthday. 4 4 4 Crook, who was a nervous flyer, had been drinking on the way to Bristol Airport and had taken cocaine. When their flight was delayed, he drank even more alcohol at the airport. But once they were on the plane, Crook began behaving erratically, an inquest heard. He shouted at an air steward who refused to serve him more alcohol and had a row with his partner in which he smashed both their phones. Crook was escorted off the flight and separated from his family upon landing in Turkey. His partner Jess Jenkins was advised to take their kids to the hotel and wait for his arrival. But Ben never made it to the hotel, the inquest at Gwent Coroner's Court heard. He was last seen in Kaleiçi, Antalya's old town district, and was found the next day in the Selçuk area. After she raised the alarm over Ben's disappearance, Jess received a message from a woman who had spotted him. It read: "He said he smashed up his phone and had brought a new one but it was not ringing for some reason. "He used my phone to send a message to his friend and we gave him our number if he needed more help. "He looked shaken and hungover. "After the Facebook message and ringing his friend, he crossed the harbour and walked, we presumed, to the police station for help." Ben was discovered lying on rocky ground at the bottom of a tall building. He died at Antalya Training and Research Hospital at 2.15am on September 25. Ben's dad flew out to Turkey upon hearing his son was missing, but found out the tragic news upon his arrival. He had been messaged by Ben to ask for the name of the hotel they were staying at on Facebook Messenger, but it had ended up in the spam folder. A post mortem examination conducted in Turkey found that Ben died with injuries in keeping with a fall. A further examination in the UK determined his cause of head was a fractured skull and pelvis caused by blunt trauma from the fall. The court heard that he may have fallen while he was smoking. Gwent coroner Caroline Saunders said that drugs and alcohol "may have caused disorientation and poor judgement". But she added "this is insufficient to determine he fell as a result of the drugs he had taken." She said: "I find the fall was an accident, the exact details of which are unknown. "On September 24, 2024, Ben Crook fell from height whilst on holiday in Turkey and sustained severe head and pelvic injuries and died on September 25, 2024. "The conclusion I reach is that of an accident." 4

State claims boyfriend was intoxicated when Vanessa's body was found
Murder accused Rob Evans was reportedly so drunk the morning his girlfriend's battered and bruised body was discovered in his holiday home, that he was unable to recall what had happened. The state claims further that he gave at least three conflicting versions of events. Prosecutor Bianca Burger said that in his official statement to the police, Evans had relayed how he and Vanessa van Rensburg had arrived at his Oyster Bay holiday house at about 4pm on April 19. A couple of hours later, a friend, Mike McAfee, invited them to join a braai at the home of Keith Belling. McAfee left his bakkie at Evans' house and all three headed to the braai in Evans' vehicle. Reading from Evans' statement, Burger continued: 'On arrival at Keith's house we were invited to join their braai and we had some drinks with them. 'Vanessa left early ... before me ... and I later went home. 'I had too much to drink. I cannot recall how I got to the house, whether I drove or not, but I know I drove my bakkie [to the braai] and Mike left his bakkie in my yard.' Back at the holiday home, he said, he could not recall seeing Van Rensburg there. 'I went inside to make a fire as we had decided to braai. 'I could not keep track of time but when I got out of the braai area to the sitting area, I saw Vanessa lying on the floor. 'I went to her to see if she was OK, but it seemed there was no life in her any more. 'I then went down to Keith's house to seek help and they came back with me.' In the second version, Burger said, Evans told a police officer who arrived at the scene at 1.45am that he had gone to a braai at Belling's house, returned home, and did not see Van Rensburg's body until later, when he emerged from the braai area after attempting to make a fire. In the third version, at 2.35am, he allegedly phoned Van Rensburg's young children's paternal grandmother, crying, and eventually told her that Van Rensburg was dead. When the woman asked what had happened, Evans allegedly said that they had been braaiing for two hours at his house and that he later stumbled upon her body. He said her lips were blue and he tried to resuscitate her for two hours. Burger said she had also obtained a statement from a local fisherman, only identified as Mr Taljaard. She said Taljaard alleged that he drove past Evans' house at about 8.30pm and that he had heard shouting and fighting coming from the property. When he drove past again later that night, at about 10pm, Evans was allegedly sitting on a bench outside his house and drinking. He said he could not see Van Rensburg. The bail application continues on Friday. Evans remains in custody. The Herald

Montana man's drunken attempt to impress women leaves him humiliated
A drunk man in Montana was left red in the face after attempting to impress a woman by climbing the iconic Wyoming elk antler arches moments before police arrived. The humiliating spectacle began after the man, on a night out drinking, had met two women and stumbled across the archway on May 13. Around 12.40am, the Jackson Police Department said Teton County Dispatch had been alerted to 'people on top of the arches,' Cowboy State Daily reported. His daring act, however, left him red in the face after climbing onto the archway and reaching the top, only for a police officer to arrive on scene. The man, from Belgrade, said he had 'been drinking and wanted to climb the arch to impress some girls he had just met.' Which only seemed to backfire when he was handed a fine for $100 from the police officer for climbing the arch. The four elk antler arches are iconic for the Jackson area and a popular spot for tourists, but climbing them is not advised and has been made illegal. Lt. Russ Ruschill with the JPD told the outlet that it's uncommon for people to attempt to climb the arches and could only recall a handful of times throughout his career of reports of such behavior. 'I've seen it a couple of times in my career here, but don't remember the last time we've written a citation specifically for climbing one of the arches,' he said. However, he was surprised that the man was able to, while drunk especially, climb so high onto the arch. 'I don't think I've ever seen anybody quite get up as far onto the top like this gentleman,' Ruschill added. 'We usually catch them thinking about it, talking about it or just starting to climb.' Photos shared on Instagram showed one woman reach near to the top of the arch before the gentleman climbed and managed to reach the very top. The photos showed one woman remaining on the ground with her phone out before police arrived. The gentleman's actions, however, spurred outrage online as the account that posted the photos wrote: 'Idiots in Jackson get caught climbing up the arch antlers in Jackson Square.' 'Being drunk or being a dumba** isn't an excuse!' Commenters on the post shared the same frustration, with one who wrote :'They should be fined at a minimum. Community service, maybe. Unbelievable!' Another called the climbers 'entitled,' while others said more respect should be shown especially when visiting from out of town. One said: 'The arrogance of people never surprises me any longer. Where is the respect?!' Ruschill also stressed the dangers of climbing on top of the arches, especially when intoxicated. 'It's a long way to fall from the top of the southwest arch,' he said. 'Someone could get injured or killed doing such a thing. That's the public safety message to this incident.' The man can pay the $100 bond or plead his innocence, Cowboy State Daily reported. 'Our defendant is innocent until proven guilty,' Ruschill said. 'But in Jackson, it's illegal to climb something that's not meant to be climbed.'
