'We keep everything in the circle... everything outside it is just irrelevant to us'

SHANE KINGSTON HAS insisted that Cork's month-long break since winning the Munster final won't leave them undercooked and vulnerable against Dublin this weekend. Cork will face the Dubs in Saturday evening's All-Ireland SHC semi-final exactly four weeks after beating Limerick in a dramatic provincial decider. The previous three times that Cork won Munster titles, in 2014, 2017 and 2018, they failed to navigate the lengthy break in games and lost the subsequent All-Ireland semi-final ties. The gap between games was five weeks in both 2014 and 2017 and four weeks in 2018. Advertisement The last time the Rebels actually won their next game after a Munster title success was way back in 2006, when they overcame the four-week break that season to beat Limerick in an All-Ireland quarter-final. This weekend's opponents, Dublin, have beaten Kildare in an All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final and, memorably, Limerick in a quarter-final since Cork's provincial final and will look to capitalise on that momentum. Cork attacker Kingston said he doesn't think it will be a problem for his team. 'I wouldn't think so, no,' said Kingston, speaking as an eir hurling ambassador. 'The gap is a sign that you've won something, which is great. Secondly, it just gives you that opportunity to maybe get a bit of extra work done, fine-tuning things that you might not have had time to do if you had only one or two weeks. 'We looked at it as an opportunity to get the smaller things set in stone really. It gives you that opportunity as well to push things a bit more in training for two or three weeks and then tone it down for the week of the game.' eir has reached a major milestone in its network transformation, Ireland's No.1 5G Network Availability award for the fifth year in a row. Brendan Moran / SPORTSFILE Brendan Moran / SPORTSFILE / SPORTSFILE The experienced forward was similarly dismissive of the increasing pressure being weighted on Cork as All-Ireland favourites, particularly since Limerick's exit. Cork have already collected National League and Munster titles this season and have been installed by bookies as strong favourites not just to beat Dublin but to win the All-Ireland. Tipperary manager Liam Cahill has described them as 'raging hot favourites'. 'We kind of know ourselves about the outside noise and we always emphasise it that we just keep the outside out,' said Kingston. 'It's no different to last year, there was a lot of outside noise then as well. 'We just keep a tight-knit group and keep everything in the circle. Everything in that circle matters and everything outside it is just irrelevant to us. We're just staying focused on what we need to do.' Related Reads Desire for silverware fuel Dublin's drive as they seek to build on Limerick upset Cork's Pat Ryan on team selections: 'I don't believe in pulling strokes' 'He's in our minds every time we take the field. It's a privilege to still play for him' Kingston's specific focus has been on impressing Ryan and the management team enough to earn a starting place for the first time in this year's Championship. The 27-year-old Douglas man came on twice in the Munster round robin, against Clare and Waterford, and again in the provincial final, firing three points in the final win over Limerick. He missed a chunk of time with a groin injury during the league and hasn't started a game for Cork since early February. 'You'd always be hoping but it's hard to change a winning team as well,' shrugged Kingston. 'Whether I'm starting or coming on, I'll be ready to do the best I can for the team. 'I suppose one thing I'd always try to be conscious of is not making it about me. The team is a lot bigger than any one individual.'

Nelly driving unified Dublin hurlers into All-Ireland semis after club glory

There's a unity that has come from having an all-Dublin management team since the appointment of Niall Ó Ceallacháin as the new boss in January, believes Conor Burke. Ó Ceallacháin is well known in the capital's hurling scene and guided Na Fianna to the All-Ireland club title at the start of the year before taking the intercounty hot-seat, ending a run of outside managers. Pat Gilroy was briefly in charge in 2018 but, either side of that, the Dubs had Anthony Daly, Ger Cunningham, Mattie Kenny (who had been hugely successful with Cuala and Micheal Donoghue as manager. "I think there's a lot of personal connection with 'Nelly' there," said Burke. "The Na Fianna lads have been playing under him for a number of years and they know him really well, he knows all the club scene really well from analysis and whatnot. "But I think there's a sense of unity to get behind him and the other management team, who are obviously Dublin-based as well, and to really put the shoulder away and really believe in what they're trying to do and get behind it." Burke is full of praise for the work that Ó Ceallacháin has done in guiding the Dubs into the All-Ireland semi-finals for the first time since 2013. "Niall's brilliant, he's a great manager, really well organised, has a brilliant team with him, a brilliant team of Dublin clubmen behind him," said Burke. "He's brought that great team with him but there's a great sense of unity there within the team, everybody's playing for him as our leader from Dublin. "And I think he's leading the way and everybody's kind of got behind him and put the shoulder to the wheel and is really pushing hard. So yeah, he's a brilliant manager." eir has reached a major milestone in its network transformation, now delivering 5G to 98% of Ireland's population. As the first operator to launch 5G at Croke Park in 2020, eir continues to enhance the matchday experience for fans and players alike. Known as the fastest field sport in the world, hurling is a fitting match for eir's ultra-fast fibre and 5G networks – now bringing faster speeds, stronger connections, and better coverage to communities across Ireland.

eir launches fastest 5 gigabit broadband

Telecommunications provider, eir, has announced the launch of its ultra-fast 5 gigabit fibre broadband nationwide, which is said, sets a new benchmark for speed, performance, and connectivity in Irish homes. It follows eir's rollout of Ireland's first WiFi 7 system in February, introducing Wide-Fi, a cutting-edge mesh network that eliminates dead zones and supports up to 200 devices—delivering speeds twice as fast as WiFi 6. The firm said its fibre network is now available to more than 1.3 million homes and businesses. As part of a €1.7 billion investment in digital infrastructure, eir is upgrading eligible 2Gb customers on its WiFi 7-powered Wide-Fi system to 5Gb speeds - which it said would significantly enhance how people work, stream, and connect. eir's new 5Gb speed tier is available today, and thousands of customers who signed up for WiFi 7 and 2 Gigabit fibre plans earlier this year will be automatically upgraded at no extra cost. The company said the launch comes at a perfect time, as one of the world's most anticipated game updates is set to drop in the coming days. With an estimated 80GB download size, eir 5Gb fibre can handle the entire update in as little as two minutes - more than twice as fast as 2Gbps connections. "With 5Gb speeds and cutting-edge WiFi 7, eir is delivering the ultimate broadband experience for busy modern homes - where everyone is online, all at once, for everything from streaming the latest GAA match to studying, gaming, working remotely, or simply unwinding with a movie," said Kealan Donoghue, Managing Director of eir's Consumer and Small Business Division.
