EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 34-year-old man was recently arrested for drunk driving after he attempted to flee from a traffic stop in far East El Paso, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPCSO). EPCSO said Joe Emilio Molinar, 34, was arrested on Saturday, July 26, and charged with driving while intoxicated, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance with a total bond of $7,000. He was then booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. At around 3:30 a.m. on July 26, a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2021 Honda Civic near Pellicano Drive and Darrington Road after observing the vehicle speeding and failing to stop at a stop sign, according to EPCSO. The Sheriff's Office said that the driver, later identified as Molinar, refused to yield and drove off at a high rate of speed through a residential area, disregarding multiple stop signs. Deputies later located the vehicle parked between two trucks in an apparent attempt to hide. Molinar, who had clear signs of intoxication, was located and taken into custody without further incident, according to EPCSO. 'Driving under the influence and running from law enforcement is reckless and dangerous. We have zero tolerance for it,'Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. On Saturday, July 12, around 9:45 P.M., DeSoto Police received a notification from the Flock Camera System about a black Chevrolet Corvette in the area. What we know The black Chevrolet Corvette was associated with a registered owner, 20-year-old Dario Franco Ramirez, a resident of Cedar Hill. The vehicle's owner had an active warrant out of Grand Prairie for evading while in a vehicle. A third-degree felony. Officers located the Corvette at a bowling alley in the 100 block of Northgate Drive. When attempts were made to contact the driver, Ramirez sped away, initiating a high-speed pursuit through the city. During the chase, Ramirez attempted to evade detection by deactivating the vehicle's headlamps and tail lamps, but officers coordinated efforts and successfully deployed spike strips on N. Hampton Road near the Pleasant Run Road intersection, puncturing the Corvette's tires. Following the spike strip deployment, Ramirez drove into a residential neighborhood in the 700 block of Hilltop Circle and attempted to park on a resident's property. The resident called the police, which led to Ramirez's arrest and the impoundment of the vehicle. During the investigation, officers discovered that the Corvette was equipped with a device that unlawfully flipped the license plates. This offense is classified as a Class B Misdemeanor. A Mesquite man accused of striking a bicyclist while fleeing authorities after a domestic disturbance has been arrested and faces multiple charges, police said Saturday. Justin Bernard Johnson, 33, is charged with evading arrest causing serious bodily injury, assault – continuous violence against the family, and tampering with evidence, according to the Garland Police Department. Justin Bernard Johnson, 33 Garland Police Department Authorities responded around 9 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 6100 block of Bay Island Drive after receiving a 911 call reporting that Johnson had physically assaulted the caller, officials said. As officers attempted to stop him on Interstate 30, Johnson allegedly discarded drugs before speeding away, police said. During the chase, he struck a bicyclist, who was thrown onto the top of his vehicle. The bicyclist later fell onto the roadway before Johnson crashed into two stopped vehicles at a traffic light, according to authorities. He then fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance away. The bicyclist and the driver of one of the stopped vehicles were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. Investigators also learned Johnson had an active parole violation warrant issued by the Austin Parole Board, officials said. The case remains under investigation.

One person was killed and a man was arrested after a police chase ended in a crash on eastbound Interstate 30 near Dallas early Saturday, Grand Prairie police said. Llonis Arevalo, 26, was charged with murder, evading arrest causing death, resisting arrest and collision involving death, police said. A patrolling officer had initially tried to stop Arevalo, who was driving a Chevrolet Camaro in the 1100 block of East Main Street in Grand Prairie, at around 1:45 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement. The officer saw Arevalo rapidly decelerating the vehicle and changing lanes in an attempt to evade police, officials said. The officer, believing the Camaro to have been stolen, initiated a traffic stop for a known violation, police said. After pulling into a parking lot, Arevalo fled as the officer began to get out of his cruiser. A pursuit onto eastbound Interstate 30 followed. The officer caught Arevalo in the median, where a 'prolonged struggle ensued' before backup officers arrived, police said. The driver of the stranded vehicle was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital, where they died, according to the statement. The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the dead person once family has been notified. Arevalo is a 'documented gang member' who was out on bond for 11 felony counts at the time of the crash, police said. Grand Prairie police are leading the criminal investigation and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office is leading the crash investigation, according to the statement.
