'Happy Gilmore 2' and 10 More New Netflix Movies You Shouldn't Miss in July

Netflix has two long-awaited sequels premiering in July, along with loads of other hits, from zombie movies to strange-but-true documentaries about some of the biggest news stories of our time. The biggest films to hit the streamer in July are definitely Happy Gilmore 2, the Adam Sandler film that arrives on July 25, and The Old Guard 2, the action fantasy that stars Charlize Theron, Veronica Van, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kiki Layne and Uma Thurman. Five new entries in the platform's popular Trainwreck documentary series are also arriving this month, along with new foreign films like Ziam, a Thai zombie horror, and Brick, a German thriller. Many other beloved movies, like Friday Night Lights and the original Karate Kid trilogy, are also coming soon. With a great selection of action, comedy, and some essential old faves, these are the best new titles coming to Netflix this July. Read more: The Hottest Movies Coming in 2025 Netflix Trainwreck: The Cult of American Apparel (July 1) Netflix's Trainwreck series continues this month with the release of five more films that recall some of the most dramatic moments and media sensations of the past few decades. July's first installment, The Cult of American Apparel, follows the rise and fall of the fashion brand that marketed American-made basics toward young, trendy consumers, and ultimately folded as a result of CEO Dov Charney's mismanagement and a series of sexual harassment accusations made against him. This month's other Trainwreck installments include The Real Project X (July 8), Balloon Boy (July 15), P.I. Moms (July 22) and Storm Area 51 (July 29). David James/Paramount Pictures Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (July 1) With Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning out now, there's no better time to go back and revisit some of the other great installments in the franchise like 2015's Rogue Nation, the first Mission: Impossible film to be directed by Tom Cruise's frequent collaborator Christopher McQuarrie and, some might say, one of the best films in the series. It's also the film that brings Cruise's Ethan Hunt together with ex-MI6 agent Ilsa Faust, played by series regular Rebecca Ferguson. The movie (as well as four others in the M:I franchise) arrives on Netflix July 1. Sony Pictures The Karate Kid (July 1) Mission: Impossible isn't the only franchise dropping on Netflix in July. You can also catch the original 1984 version of The Karate Kid and the film's two sequels when they drop on July 1. If you finished Cobra Kai and want to revisit the originals, with Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso and Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi, now is the time. Universal Pictures Friday Night Lights (July 1) Peter Berg's 2004 drama Friday Night Lights spawned one of the great shows of the early aughts, but the film stands on its own as a sports classic. Billy Bob Thornton stars as Odessa, Texas, football coach Gary Gaines, whose high school team is more than just a sports club, it's the soul of the town. After the team's star player (Derek Luke) is injured, Gaines has to restore morale and spirit not just within his team, but in the entire community. Netflix The Old Guard 2 (July 2) Charlize Theron returns as Andy, the leader of a group of immortal mercenaries, in The Old Guard 2, which arrives on Netflix July 2. (The first film, a 2020 Netflix original, is also available on the platform.) In the sequel, Theron is joined by almost the entire cast of the original film, as well as another actor with serious action chops -- Uma Thurman. She plays Discord, a fellow immortal described as an "agent of chaos" that Andy is forced to battle. Netflix Ziam (July 9) You can't beat the log line of the new Netflix original movie Ziam: A Muay Thai fighter battles zombies in order to save his girlfriend. I'm in. Thai actor and musician Mark Prin plays Singh, a retired boxer whose plan to retire to his hometown and live a quiet life with his girlfriend Rin is disrupted when zombies take over the hospital where Rin works. If you like martial arts, action and stories of the infected undead, this is the bloody good time you're looking for. Netflix Brick (July 10) In the new German thriller Brick, Tim and Olivia (Matthias Schweighöfer and Ruby O. Fee) wake up one day to discover they're trapped in their apartment by an impenetrable brick wall that has shown up out of nowhere. It's a problem affecting their entire building, so they have to work together with their neighbors to find a way out of the mysterious fortress and figure out why it's there in the first place. Brick arrives on July 10. Netflix Tyler Perry's Madea's Destination Wedding (July 11) Tyler Perry's Madea's Destination Wedding is the 13th Madea film and the second to be produced for and streamed on Netflix. In the film, Perry returns as the outspoken Madea (as well as playing her nephew, Brian), as their family travels to the Bahamas for an unexpected, last-minute wedding. Netflix Almost Cops (July 11) Almost Cops is an upcoming Dutch comedy starring Jandino Asporaat and Werner Kolf as a crime-fighting odd couple. Asporaat plays Ramon, a special investigating officer in Rotterdam whose new colleague, Jack (Kolf), is an ex-detective who was demoted and reassigned to Ramon's team. Their relationship is prickly at first but after learning that they've both suffered the loss of a loved one -- by the same killer -- they forge a bond and go full buddy cop to nab their perp. Netflix Apocalypse in the Tropics (July 14) Apocalypse in the Tropics is the newest documentary film from Petra Costa, whose previous work includes 2019's Oscar-nominated film The Edge of Democracy (which is also available on Netflix). Like that film, Apocalypse in the Tropics takes viewers deep inside the often turbulent world of Brazilian politics, with the new film focusing on the rise of the Evangelical Christian influence among many of Brazil's leaders. The film, which was four years in the making, arrives July 14.

Netflix just dropped an explosive new trailer for Arnold Schwarzenegger's hit action-comedy show — and it's returning soon

In 2023, Netflix's 'FUBAR' saw titan-sized action man Arnold Schwarzenegger taking center-stage as retired operative Luke Brunner in the streaming service's popular action-comedy series. Fast forward two years, and he's 'back' to do it all over again in 'FUBAR' season 2. And if you want a taste of what's in store in this (as creator Nick Santora puts it) 'bananas' second chapter, you're in luck: Netflix just dropped a trailer for the show's sophomore season. You can find it below: Above all else, the big takeaway here is the addition of 'Matrix' star Carrie-Anne Moss. She's boarded the show as one of Brunner's former flames, East German spy, Greta Nelso. Her arrival certainly spells trouble — Greta quite literally promises that she and her associate, ex-MI6 agent Theodore Chips (Guy Burnet) are going to 'destroy the world,' after all — and she looks like an incredibly capable (and dangerous!) addition to the show. Elsewhere, the 'FUBAR' season 2 trailer is an explosive mix of all-out action and comedy, boasting plenty of shootouts, Arnie popping out of a tank, deadly hand-to-hand brawls, and bizarrely, more than one dance routine. The gags aren't exactly high-brow, and the gags are kinda one-note, but it nevertheless looks like a fresh dose of chaos for its fans. And with Schwarzenegger himself telling Tudum season 2 'it is bigger, it is better' and promising there's 'more of everything' coming along, it sounds like fans are going to want to binge it ASAP. Excited for 'FUBAR' season 2? Well, you don't have long to wait: 'FUBAR' season 2 starts streaming exclusively on Netflix from Thursday, June 12. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Netflix has already shared a 'FUBAR' season 2 synopsis, though it doesn't give much more away than the trailer above. It reads: 'Luke Brunner is a veteran CIA operative who, up until recently, was on the verge of retirement. After his last mission in saving another operative - who just so happened to be his daughter - he's back and face to face with new villains. This one is an old flame from Luke's past who threatens to destroy the world… if she doesn't destroy his life first.' In addition to Schwarzenegger you can see that the 'FUBAR' season 1 gang's all here; returning cast also includes Monica Barbaro, Travis Van Winkle, Fortune Feimster, Milan Carter, Scott Thompson, Fabiana Udenio, Andy Buckley, Jay Baruchel, Adam Pally, Tom Arnold, Aparna Briell and Barbara Eve Harris. Mission: Impossible 8 gears up as Tom Cruise nears his final mission, here's everything we know so far

The final installment of Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible film franchise is on the horizon, and yes, it is just as explosive as fans would hope. Touted as one of the best action franchises of all time, Cruise's high-octane adventures are gearing up for one last ride in the chaotic world of global espionage. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is all set to hit the big screen on May 17, 2025, exclusively in India, where the fanbase for the franchise is nothing short of massive. The worldwide release follows on May 23, 2025. The saga of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) began with him being framed as a mole within the IMF. Now, the story races toward its final chapter, one where Hunt must risk it all to save the world from a threat like no other. As the stage sets for his last battle, let's take a moment to recap how Ethan Hunt and the IMF have pulled off the impossible time and time again. Mission: Impossible – A recap of the franchise that redefined action Mission: Impossible (1996) A high-stakes mission in Prague turns into a disaster, leaving several IMF agents dead, and Ethan Hunt falsely accused of being a mole. Forced to go rogue, Ethan uncovers the shocking truth: the real traitor is none other than IMF director Jim Phelps. Mission: Impossible 2 (2000) Ethan faces off against Sean Ambrose, a former IMF agent gone rogue, who is plotting to unleash a deadly virus called 'Chimera.' With the help of Nyah Nordoff-Hall, a skilled thief, Ethan dives into action to stop a global bio-disaster. Mission: Impossible III (2006) Ethan's attempt at a quiet life is cut short when he is pulled back into the field to rescue a fellow agent. But he ends up clashing with arms dealer Owen Davian, who endangers Ethan's wife Julia and threatens global safety. The mission becomes personal, and deadly. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011) After a bombing at the Kremlin, the IMF is disbanded and Ethan is left with a skeleton crew. Going off the grid (again), they must stop nuclear extremist Kurt Hendricks from launching a war between the USA and Russia, and restore the IMF's name. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) Enter the Syndicate: a covert organisation of rogue agents led by ex-MI6 operative Solomon Lane. Ethan partners with the enigmatic Ilsa Faust to uncover and dismantle this new global threat. The mission ends with Lane in custody, but not for long. Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) The ghost of the Syndicate returns in the form of the Apostles, hellbent on nuclear destruction. Ethan joins forces with CIA agent August Walker, who turns out to be a traitor. With the world seconds from devastation, Ethan does what he does best: saves the day just in time. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) The stakes are raised like never before. The U.S. develops a sentient AI called The Entity, designed to neutralise terrorist threats. But when it turns rogue, Ethan must prevent its activation keys from falling into the wrong hands. He fails, and a dangerous figure from his past, Gabriel, emerges with control of the AI. Loyalties crack, sacrifices are made, and Ethan's mission becomes more impossible than ever. What to Expect in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning The saga now barrels toward its final reckoning. The Entity, once a tool for counter-terrorism, has become a free-thinking digital superweapon capable of manipulating global military powers. And it is in the hands of the ruthless Gabriel. With the world on the edge, Ethan Hunt must go further than he ever has, physically, mentally, and morally, to stop the spread of destruction. Allies will return. Enemies will rise. And the very concept of the 'impossible' will be pushed to its limits. The eighth and final chapter promises a high-octane, emotionally charged send-off for one of cinema's most iconic action heroes. One thing is certain, this mission is personal, and it might just be Ethan Hunt's most daring one yet.

Ginger Mr Darcy will break barriers, jokes Lowden

Actor Jack Lowden has said he likes the idea of "breaking down barriers" by being a ginger Mr Darcy in a new adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The 34-year-old joked on the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg that "it is one of the great last barriers to break down". In a wide-ranging interview alongside fellow British actor Martin Freeman, 53, he discussed being trained by an ex-MI6 officer and their upcoming West End play. On his role in Netflix's six-part adaptation of Austen's classic novel, Lowden said he might draw on inspiration from some actors who have previously played the iconic Mr Darcy role. "I quite like the idea of being a ginger Darcy," he told the BBC. "I think that is really breaking down barriers - one of the great last barriers to be broken down." Sitting next to Lowden a smiling Freeman said he "agreed". Lowden continued: "I quite like the idea of me coming along and doing something else with it. "Or just copying one of them because some of the guys who played it are amongst the best. Matthew Macfadyen, to me, is one of the best actors on the planet. So if I just try copy him - maybe that's alright?" "But ginger?" Freeman asked. "Ginger", Lowden replied. "Yep, change it up." Lowden and Freeman are set to take part in David Ireland's West End theatre show the Fifth Step which is due to open at Soho Place Theatre on 12 May. The pair told the programme they had not met before they agreed to play an alcoholic and his Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor. Lowden said he enjoyed the dark humour of the show, saying that, while it may be "corny", laughter was "the best medicine" and a way of "self-healing". Asked about the Bafta-nominated series Slow Horses, which focuses on intelligence agents who have been discarded by MI5, Lowden talked about being trained in spycraft. "We did a day with an ex-MI6 officer who was helping us to train in the art of surveillance and counter-surveillance. Walking along and following a mark. "He gave us a lecture for a bit and then said 'right we are going to go outside and do this'. But then he pulled the shutters up on the window and saw that it was raining and he went 'oh no maybe we shouldn't'. "So MI6 don't operate a lot in the rain," Lowden - who has been touted as a possibility for the new James Bond - said. "Maybe it's cause they're abroad a lot." Freeman then shared his own experiences about being "tailed occasionally". "Just by people, sometimes follow you around. And they think you don't know and of course you do know." Freeman said those experiences are "less scary and more annoying". "It's annoying because they think you don't know they are doing it. So occasionally I do just turn round and go 'look, what do you want?' "I try to be reasonable with people and say 'look I am not a prop'." Culture West End theatre TV drama Jane Austen Netflix
