Bill Belichick playing ‘second fiddle' to Jordon Hudson as UNC debut nears: College football insider

It's the Jordon and Bill show in Chapel Hill — in that order. College football analyst Paul Finebaum said Bill Belichick is playing 'second fiddle' to 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson while he closes in on his college football coaching debut. 'Also, there's Bill Belichick, anybody heard of this guy?' Finebaum said on 'First Take' on Friday while previewing the ACC. 'He's only the most-famous NFL coach of all time this side of Vince Lombardi, but lately he's played second fiddle to his girlfriend. I can't believe I'm actually saying that, but I am.' 3 Bill Belichick (r) and Jordon Hudson (l) during the infamous 'CBS Sunday Morning' interview. CBS It's certainly hard to separate Belichick and Hudson since the duo has gone public, and Hudson has made plenty of headlines on her own. While 'CBS Sunday Morning' interviewed Belichick in April about his book, Hudson became the focus after she shut down questions about how the pair met. That led to a back-and-forth between the network and ex-Patriots coach. There has also been controversy about whether North Carolina banned Hudson from the facilities — the school has said no — accusations of Hudson attempting to hijack a Dunkin' Donuts Super Bowl commercial and recent bickering with Belichick's ex, Linda Holliday. 3 Paul Finebaum on 'First Take' on July 11. @FirstTake/X All the off-the-field headlines are contrary to how Belichick operated during his Patriots tenure, with several of his ex-players even noting how he would tell the team to limit distractions. The constant headlines have only heightened the anticipation for his first season coaching in the collegiate ranks, which begins Sept. 1 at home against TCU. 3 Belichick and Hudson have often been in the spotlight. AP The Tar Heels' Over/Under is set at 7.5 wins at DraftKings, with plus-odds to the Over. Some of North Carolina's high-profile games include an Oct. 4 home game against defending conference champion Clemson and an Oct. 31 road game at Syracuse. 'And that is a story that is really intriguing everyone. How does he do on the field?' Finebaum said. 'Mack Brown did not leave a great cupboard in Chapel Hill and I think Belichick has recruited well. Can he navigate the nuances of college football, that is really the question?'

"Playing on the field. Sorry, Tom Brady," he wrote. Whether it's Gronk mocking Brady's transition into broadcasting or Edelman roasting his old teammate's social media selfies, there's an unmistakable undertone of love and loyalty behind the jabs. Gronkowski's blunt comments about Brady's on-air performance might've sounded harsh to outsiders, but longtime fans know this is how these three legends motivate one another. Gronk has often said Brady thrives under pressure and sometimes, that pressure comes from those closest to him. Edelman, no stranger to Brady's intensity, joined in the teasing, echoing that Brady performs best when he's got a chip on his shoulder. There's also an element of role reversal at play. UNC football season tickets sell out as Bill Belichick drama rages

The Bill Belichick effect has helped ticket sales for UNC football. While the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach has attempted to clean up the PR fallout from his disastrous interview on 'CBS Sunday Morning,' the excitement over Belichick's arrival in Chapel Hill has increased interest in the football program substantially. So much so that UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham told Axios that the Tar Heels had sold out their 20,000 allotment of season tickets for the upcoming campaign. While North Carolina hasn't played a game under the ex-Patriots coach, Belichick has faced intense scrutiny over his off-field life, namely his relationship with 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson. AP There has also been some speculation that Belichick could walk away from it all, with the buyout in his contract down to $1 million beginning in June. Belichick has done a series of interviews over the past week with media outlets in an attempt to reframe the narrative around him and put the focus back on football. He has attempted to clarify several issues involving Hudson, which included reports that she axed a deal that would have put the Tar Heels as the center of attention on HBO's 'Hard Knocks' and why Hudson was copied on all his North Carolina football emails.

Bill Belichick appeared at NYU panel without Jordon Hudson — and with an ex-NFL comms VP

Bill Belichick seems to be putting Jordon Hudson on the sidelines when it comes to managing his brand. At least in one instance. The six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach and first-year University of North Carolina football bench boss had former Bears vice president of communications Brandon Faber with him while he spoke at NYU's Stern School of Business, Page Six reported. Hudson, 24, was in New York and planned to attend, but she was not spotted at the event, according to the report. Pro Football Talk was first to report that Belichick had been in talks to have Faber come on to assist him. USA TODAY Sports via Reuters Con Radio host Zach Gelb posted on social media that his cousin was in attendance at the NYU-community-only event and that there was no sign of the former cheerleader, who is dating the 73-year-old football coach. Belichick did take questions, but they did need to be submitted, Gelb also wrote. The NYU event focused on Belichick discussing leadership and what makes a good team and the ex-Patriots coach stayed to sign copies of his book, 'The Art of Winning.' 3 Brandon Faber Brandon Faber/X Hudson's presence around Belichick has gained more attention in the days and weeks following the awkward interview he did with 'CBS Sunday Morning' in April, where Hudson was described as a 'constant presence' during the interview and stepped in to stop a question about how the couple met. Hudson seemingly acted as Belichick's manager — the football coach said he has a 'personal and professional relationship' with Hudson in a statement — and her influence over him had been a growing story. 3 Bill Belichick during his CBS interview.
