Marcus Rashford's latest Man Utd exit route as striker deemed too expensive
Manchester United continue to seek more firepower and could yet find it in Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku whilst Marcus Rashford continues to eye a new home after his loan ended Manchester United are edging towards a second summer deal as they close in on an agreement to land Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. The Cameroonian would be the second forward to move to Old Trafford. Matheus Cunha has already arrived from Wolves and Cunha could follow for around the same price, which would take United's spending to over £100million. Ruben Amorim knows he needs a massive transfer window if he is to turn things around in Manchester. He is also looking to trim his squad and has a number of returning players who need to have their futures resolved. Marcus Rashford is back from his Aston Villa loan stint with plenty of noise surrounding his future. Antony has also returned from Spain. Chelsea opted against making Jadon Sancho 's loan a permanent switch and Alejandro Garnacho continues to frustrate the club's bosses and could be moved on. Here's the latest news coming out of Old Trafford. Newcastle join Rashford race Newcastle are showing strong interest in Rashford this summer with Caught Offside claiming the Magpies are making 'serious moves' to sign him as they look to bolster their squad ahead of another season in the Champions League. Rashford had been eyeing up a move for Barcelona, but that may fail to materialise as they consider other options. Newcastle are keen on ex-United man Antony Elanga but if they can't secure the Nottingham Forest winger then Rashford is on their radar. Eddie Howe would keen on a loan deal for Rashford, but that may be the sticking point with Manchester bosses wanting an end to the saga. As a result they may seek a permanent exit rather than another loan - leaving them to deal with a similar situation in 12 months time. Nkunku exit update Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has opened the door for Christopher Nkunku to leave the club this summer with those on the red side of Manchester said to be interested in the forward as they eye more options in the final third. Nkunku has struggled for regular game time since joining the Blues from RB Leipzig two years ago and when asked about the player's future, Maresca said: "If Christo is here with us, it is because we think he can help us and he can be with us even next season. But as you said, there are many speculations, not just about Christo, about many players. "And then if something is going to happen, I don't know because we said many times when the transfer window is open, anything can happen in terms of players that can arrive or players that can leave." Inter remain keen on Hojlund Gazzetta dello Sport claim Inter Milan are in constant contact with the Red Devils regarding a potential move for Rasmus Hojlund this summer. The Dane struggled in front of goal last season and United could cash in on the 22-year-old, which could help fund their summer business. Inter are closing in on a deal to sign Parma's Ange-Yoan Bonny, but the Champions League finalists are still ready to go after Hojlund. United's asking price of is thought to be around £38m, but that is more than the Italian wants to pay so they could propose a loan deal with an option or conditional obligation to buy.

Sancho, 25, returned to United last month when Chelsea chose to pay a £5m penalty clause at the end of his loan agreement rather than the £25m to make the deal permanent. It was the latest set-back for the former Borussia Dortmund winger who has struggled since making a £73m move to Old Trafford in 2021. Newcastle look to sign ex-Man Utd star as part of stunning £140m triple transfer – but rule out move for Marcus Rashford
The Magpies have identified back-up targets should they fail to sign the ex-United ace EL OF A MOVE Newcastle look to sign ex-Man Utd star as part of stunning £140m triple transfer – but rule out move for Marcus Rashford Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) NEWCASTLE are ready to launch a fresh raid for Anthony Elanga — as part of a £140million triple swoop. Eddie Howe is ready to pull the trigger on offers for Nottingham Forest winger Elanga, Brighton forward Joao Pedro and Burnley keeper James Trafford. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 Newcastle are prepared to launch a new bid for Anthony Elanga Credit: Getty 4 The Magpies are also looking to finalise a deal for James Trafford Credit: Getty SunSport understands the Magpies are ready to bid £50m for Elanga after seeing a £45m offer rejected earlier this week. And they will battle Chelsea for £60m-rated Pedro, while wrapping up £30m Trafford, after June 30. That is when a new window begins for Profit and Sustainability rules — in which Toon may be able to include around £100m in Champions League revenue. Elanga is Howe's top target on the right wing although the club are also exploring other targets in case they fail to land the Swede. Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey and Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo are also on the radar. Howe is a huge admirer of Pedro and missed out on him three years ago when he was at Watford before eventually landing Alexander Isak, who he now wants the Samba star to help support in attack. Brighton are willing to cash in after he was axed for the last two games of the season by Fabian Hurzeler following a training-ground bust-up with team-mate Jan Paul van Hecke. Newcastle's players are due to report back for pre-season training on July 7 and Howe, who also ideally wants a new centre-half too, hopes to have at least two new signings on board by then. CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS 4 Joao Pedro has emerged as a target Credit: Getty Newcastle have been linked with a move for Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford but he is not on the club's list of targets. As for goalkeeper Trafford, the Magpies have got the green light to press ahead and finally get a deal over the line. Christian Norgaard to Arsenal LATEST | Transfers Exposed Burnley announced the £4.3m arrival of German U20 international Max Weiss from Karlsruher on Wednesday, paving the way for Trafford to leave. The 22-year-old was set to move to Tyneside last summer. But that scuppered when Nottingham Forest insisted on Greek goalie Odysseas Vlachodimos going to Newcastle as part of the PSR-pleasing transfer that also saw Elliot Anderson head to the City Ground. Burnley have been quoting a £40m asking price for the 22-year-old, though SunSport understands Toon chiefs are confident a £30m agreement will get it over the line.

Ex-Man Utd star tells £64m target to complete Saudi transfer
Former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo has encouraged Victor Osimhen to strongly consider a transfer move to the Saudi Pro League this summer. Osimhen is widely considered to be among the most complete centre-forwards in world football, but the attacker's future has been up in the air since his season-long loan spell with Galatasaray came to an end. Though Osimhen still has 12 months remaining on his contract at Napoli, the 26-year-old – who has a £64million release clause – is expected to depart the Serie A champions on a permanent basis ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. The likes of United and Arsenal have been heavily linked with Osimhen as they scour the market for attacking reinforcements to boost their squads in preparation for the new season. But the Premier League duo are not alone with their interest, with Al-Hilal putting a 'crazy' contract offer on the table having had an initial proposal turned down by the Nigeria international. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. The mega-rich Saudi outfit also made an unsuccessful bid to sign Osimhen before he joined Galatasaray last September. Given Osimhen would be in line to make £34m-per-year year, and close to £140m over a four-year span, he has the chance to become one of the highest-paid footballers in history. 'It's not easy because agents are calling every day, people talk in the media,' ex-United and Nigeria forward Ighalo told News Central TV of the incessant speculation surrounding his fellow countryman this summer. 'But I think Victor is mentally strong because he has gone through challenges in his life, even at his age, and he has overcome them. 'He knows what he wants. We were together two days ago but we didn't talk about football, it was just for us to have fun. 'But I believe he knows what he wants. He's a grown-up guy now so he has worked hard to be where he is today. 'If he calls me for my opinion, I would tell him. But I think he has done well and whatever decision he makes, it's a win-win for him.' Having experienced the Saudi Pro League himself, Ighalo would strongly urge Osimhen to give the lucrative offer from Al-Hilal some serious thought. 'If he asked me, of course, I would say go,' Ighalo, who played for Al-Shabab, Al-Hilal and Al-Wehda after leaving Old Trafford, added. 'Whatever decision is a win-win for him. If he goes now, if he doesn't go now and he goes after two years, it's still the same. 'It does not matter because last year they came and he did not go. 'They came back this year and they will still come again.' According to Ighalo, it's 'impossible' to have a conversation about the best strikers in the game without mentioning Osimhen. 'For me, in the world today, you can't mention strikers without his name. It's impossible,' he continued. 'We underrate our own, that is the problem in Africa. We underrate our own African players and their potential. 'But if you want to search the world now for a proper goalscorer, tell me two or three. He's a true number nine, a centre-forward, a goalscorer.' Osimhen's namesake, Viktor Gyokeres, has also been linked with the Red Devils this summer on the back of two prolific seasons in front of goal for Sporting. But Gyokeres has reportedly rejected United in favour of a switch to Arsenal and Gary Pallister believes his former club should turn their attentions to 'ideal signing' Alexander Isak. 'He's the player that is proven in the Premier League,' the former United centre-back told Metro on behalf of Gamble Online. 'Listen I'm sure he's got teams in better state than United at the moment who would be in to sign him and Liverpool have reportedly declared interest in him so why wouldn't you go there when they've been as successful as they have been? 'But Isak would be the ideal Man United signing for me. I think it so important that you're proven in the Premier League because it's different to all the other leagues out there. 'If you've got a player who's been there and done it, he would be the man for me. Manchester United definitely need a goalscorer. 'Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee both struggled last year. I don't think Zirkzee is an out and out number nine. There's a few clubs struggling for that centre forward.' For more stories like this, check our sport page.
