6 excessive speeders nabbed in 90 minutes, including dad taking son to hockey: Richmond RCMP

Richmond RCMP are reminding drivers to slow down after impounding six vehicles for excessive speeding over the course of just 90 minutes last weekend. Officers pulled all of the drivers over Saturday morning, including a father who was clocked going 138 km/h in an 80 km/h zone while taking his eight-year-old son to hockey. 'The child was in the front seat with the seatbelt behind his back, and not in a booster seat as required,' Richmond RCMP said in a news release Tuesday. The fastest vehicle was caught going 182 km/h in an 90 km/h zone. In a statement, Const. Frank Tarape of the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit noted that excessive speeding – defined as going at least 40 km/h over the limit – puts 'every road user at risk.' 'These speeds are a guaranteed life-altering or life-ending situation if a collision were to occur,' Tarape said. Two of the drivers pulled over Saturday morning had previously had their vehicle impounded for excessive speeding within the last two years, authorities said.

Ferrari caught speeding 124 km/h in 50 km/h zone: B.C. RCMP

An impounded Ferrari is seen in this image handed out by the Langley RCMP. Mounties in Langley say they caught an excessive speeder in a residential neighbourhood over the weekend. On Saturday, a radar gun recorded a Ferrari travelling 124 km/h in a 50 km/h zone near Wagonwheel Crescent and 56th Avenue, according to police. Just under 100 metres away, the radar gave a second reading of 123 km/h. Police impounded the Ferrari for seven days, and the driver, a 48-year-old man from Surrey, was handed a $483 fine for excessive speeding. 'Driving at such excessive speeds in neighborhoods where families live and children play is completely unacceptable,' said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom with the Langley RCMP, in a news release Monday. 'We take these violations seriously and will continue our enforcement efforts to keep our roads safe.'
