B.C. MLA Bowinn Ma's constituency office targeted with explosive device
The constituency office of North Vancouver MLA Bowinn Ma has been targeted with an explosive device, CBC News has confirmed. Police tape could be seen on Friday morning cordoning off the cabinet minister's office space at 221 Esplanade Ave. West. Two sources who spoke with CBC News on background, as they're not in a position to comment on the matter, said legislative security sent out an email to MLAs and constituency assistants around 7:30 a.m. Friday. The email said there was "an explosive device that detonated and caused damage." It said the explosion caused damage to the property, but no one was hurt. CBC News spoke with Ma and her husband in person, who said they're reeling from the incident and do not wish to comment. In a statement, Ma said all meetings and appointments at her office are cancelled for the day. "Thankfully, nobody was injured, but incidents like this can be quite frightening," she said. "Due to the active police investigation, I will not be able to provide more details at this time." The Office of the Premier told CBC News they did not order B.C. NDP offices to close, but they've advised caution and want staff and MLAs to do what they feel comfortable with.

Bomb unit called in after suspected explosive devices discovered in southwest Calgary residence and park
Police evacuated the area around Woodview Crescent S.W. Saturday afternoon after a possible explosive device was discovered in a residence. A metal box with an explosive device was discovered while someone was cleaning up a residence in southwest Calgary Saturday afternoon. At 12:10 p.m. police announced they were evacuating the 1000 block of Woodview Crescent S.W. as a precautionary measure until the box could be contained by its bomb unit. Woodview Crescent S.W. was closed to traffic. Woodview Crescent S.W., June 7, 2025 Police closed off Woodview Crescent in Calgary's southwest Saturday after a possible explosive device was discovered in a residence. (Darren Wright, CTV Calgary) Weaselhead Park incident Police also issued a statement at 11:30 a.m. about a second possible Second World War explosive device they say was discovered by someone using a metal detector in Weaselhead Flats Natural Environment Park in southwest Calgary. Police say the area has been cordoned off until the bomb unit can safely contain the device. There was no word on whether there was any connection between the two incidents. Updates to come.

New sabotage derails Russian locomotive near Ukraine
A diesel locomotive derailed in Russia's Belgorod Region on Friday morning after an explosive device planted under the tracks damaged the rails, according to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. The incident follows what Moscow described as two Ukrainian 'terrorist attacks' on railroad infrastructure last week in the border regions of Bryansk and Kursk, which killed seven people and injured more than 100, including children. 'According to preliminary information, there were no casualties as a result of the explosive device planted under the rails. Train traffic was delayed for 2.5 hours. But now all trains are already running according to schedule,' Gladkov wrote in a post on his Telegram channel at around 6:50am. Repair crews were quickly dispatched to restore the affected section in the Prokhorovsky District of the region, the governor said, noting that he had been personally affected by the delays. 'My train only reached Prokhorovka due to the bombing of the railway tracks,' he said in a video message. 'Thank God that no one was injured, but there is damage.' On Wednesday, a similar case of railway sabotage occurred in Voronezh Region near the Ukrainian border, halting rail traffic and delaying more than 20 trains. Moscow has blamed Kiev for the recent string of incidents, following a ramp-up in Ukrainian drone raids and other attacks on Russian territory. President Vladimir Putin called the deadly train sabotage in the two border regions 'undoubtedly a terrorist act,' aimed at disrupting direct US-backed peace talks between the two countries.
