'Your Instincts Will Always Guide You': How Glowbar's Founder Turned Down Pop-Ups And Built A $16 Million Skincare Empire
Rachel Liverman launched Glowbar in 2019 with a decision to avoid distractions dressed as opportunities. She said no to hosting events in the Hamptons and South by Southwest, and turned down early collaborations with outside dermatologists. Those offers were tempting, but she referred to them as "shiny objects" that would have pulled her attention away from building a strong foundation, Liverman told Inc. Glowbar launched with one purpose: consistent, professional skincare delivered in just 30 minutes. According to the Glowbar website, licensed estheticians treat each client based on their skin goals, with no upselling and no confusing treatment menus. Memberships are $65 a month and include one facial, discounts on products, and access to clinical-grade techniques like LED therapy and dermaplaning. Don't Miss: Named a TIME Best Invention and Backed by 5,000+ Users, Kara's Air-to-Water Pod Cuts Plastic and Costs — $100k+ in investable assets? – no cost, no obligation. This clear structure allowed Glowbar to scale without chaos. From one storefront in Tribeca, the company grew to 20 locations across six states within three years. According to Inc., Glowbar ranked No. 409 on the Inc. 5000 list with a growth rate of 1,087 percent and is projected to bring in $16 million in revenue in 2024. She Waited Six Years to Release a Product For years, customers asked when Glowbar would introduce its own skincare products but Liverman waited. She took inventory of her team and resources in 2022 and asked one question: "Do we have the people, the time, and the money?" When the answer aligned across all three, development on the company's first cleanser began, Liverman told Inc. "As a founder, your instincts will always guide you," Liverman added. "At the beginning, I knew to stay focused and keep my eye on the prize." Trending: This AI-Powered Trading Platform Has 5,000+ Users, 27 Pending Patents, and a $43.97M Valuation — Two and a half years later, Glowbar launched its debut product: the Expert Cleanser. According to the website, the $28 formula blends AHAs, PHAs, and white willow bark for gentle exfoliation and a deep, balanced cleanse. Liverman told Inc. that the product sold 'extremely well,' with members especially enthusiastic about using Glowbar's skincare at home between treatments. Her Business Grew Because She Refused to Rush the Process Liverman didn't follow traditional beauty industry models. According to the Glowbar website, she comes from a family of skincare professionals as her grandmother opened the first accredited skincare institute in the U.S., but Glowbar's format is her own. Treatments last less than traditional ones, cost one flat fee, and deliver targeted results without the usual spa pricing or vague promises. Glowbar estheticians are trained through the company's internal Skinstitute program, which provides certification in customized treatment delivery. According to the website, the membership model offers consistent monthly facials and has been designed to prioritize results, with no upsells or vague promises."I've really stayed focused on the business that we set out to build," Liverman told Inc., reflecting on how patience helped her scale Glowbar without losing its identity. "And when I talk to founders, I really try to give that advice: Whatever your business is, stay focused on that, especially in the early days," she added. Liverman described her decision-making process as intentional, weighing resources carefully before expanding the brand's offerings. According to the Glowbar website, new locations are already planned in Clarendon, Virginia and Long Island City. Liverman continues to lead with the same approach that built the brand: focus, timing, and trust in long-term vision. Read Next: Here's what Americans think you need to be considered wealthy. 6 new beauty editor approved buys – including Dior's new lip balm and a £13 hydrating cleanser
I'M pretty sure I've found the best-value facial in London, and it just so happens to be from one of my favourite beauty brands. The facial in question? Wildsmith's Radical Botany Facial, £140 for an hour (or £70 for 30 minutes). Tucked away in the turrets of London's Liberty department store, when you walk through the double door's of the specially designed Wildsmith Treehouse, you're transported to the countryside, with projections of trees on the walls and a birdsong lullaby to soundtrack the treatment. 8 At face value, the price seems steep, but it is redeemable against purchases of Wildsmith products on the day of yout treatment - so you're effectively getting it free. Trust me, you're going to want to stock up, given how good your skin will feel after the treatment. Despite it being fully redeemable, they don't cut corners – the bed is wider than most used for treatments (about the size of a single mattress), so you can completely relax, and it's heated too, making it ultra-cosy. 8 The facial is far more than just a sales pitch for the products - wellness is the aim. It starts with a foot massage, before your legs are gently stretched one by one, making my spine instantly feel longer, followed by a massage-heavy facial that dissolved the tension in my brow and jaw, as well as a scalp massage and a hand and arm massage that had me walking on air. If you're not yet convinced, a 90-minute version of the same treatment at Wildsmith's home in luxe hotel Heckfield Place will set you back £300 – and that isn't redeemable on products! Best new skin launches BUY NOW I discovered the new Wildsmith Skin Radiance Light Serum, £85, while I was there and have used it every day since. It feels like silk on the skin, and is packed with my favourite ingredient, niacinamide, which helps to reduce inflammation, redness and uneven skin texture, while balancing oil production and reducing breakouts. It also contains brightening antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5 to hydrate skin and boost radiance. Made specifically for humid climates, it's not heavy or greasy, which is perfect for oily skin like mine. I'm a huge fan of high-low beauty – pairing expensive products with affordable ones to get the best routine for my money. The Inkey List Hydrating Cream-To-Milk Cleanser, £13 BUY NOW As serums tend to have the highest potency of active ingredients, I generally spend most of my budget on them, so I've been pairing the Wildsmith one with The Inkey List Hydrating Cream-To-Milk Cleanser, £13, which also launched last month. As the name suggests, it starts as a lightweight cream, which feels soothing and hydrating yet melts away every trace of make-up, before transforming into a milk-like consistency on contact with water, so there's no residue left behind. It's hard to find a cleanser that gets rid of everything in one step without turning into an oil or balm, but this does it all. Best new hair launches I have a similar attitude when it comes to haircare, preferring to spend money on high-tech tools and products that make a visible difference, such as Living Proof Style Lab Flex Hairspray, £27, which has changed the game for me. Living Proof Style Lab Flex Hairspray, £27 My hair doesn't really hold a curl, but this clever hairspray contains heat protection, so can be applied to wet hair before styling – and voilà, my curls now stay put for days! Loxx Triple Flower Clip in Lemon Drop, £18 Similarly, Loxx Triple Flower Clip in Lemon Drop, £18, has been a godsend during the hot weather. I've struggled to find a claw clip that can hold my waist-length hair, but this extra-long, arched design, created by celebrity hairstylist Chad Maxwell, keeps every strand up without tugging at my scalp or leaving a dent in my hair. Best new make-up launches Make-up-wise, the last month has been about adding colour to my face, as I'm ghostly pale and exhausted - I can't decide if the hot-weather induced sleepless nights are to blame, or my inability to refuse an impromptu pub visit in the sunshine! Charlotte Tilbury Unreal Blush Healthy Glow Stick, £30 BUY NOW I find blush wakes up my complexion better than bronzer (although I'll turn to that come August), and Charlotte Tilbury Unreal Blush Healthy Glow Stick, £30, has a subtle shimmer that instantly makes me look healthier, without being too glittery or exaggerating the texture on my cheeks. I love that I can draw it straight on to my face, and blend it out with my fingers - no other tools necessary! Dior Addict Lip Glow Butter, £33 Finally, Dior Addict Lip Glow Butter, £33, made it into my bag on cute factor alone, thanks to its adorable monogram charm. The formula feels somewhere between a lip balm and a lip butter, and leaves my dry lips hydrated - I've had more compliments when wearing the Black Cherry shade than I can count on both hands! Top beauty trends for 2025 Hayley Walker, Beauty Expert at Justmylook spoke exclusively to Fabulous about the big beauty trends for 2025. Haircare Hair gloss treatments are a must-have as beauty enthusiasts love the salon-quality shine and enhanced colour delivered by the trending treatment. This treatment is perfect for those seeking an affordable, at-home glow-up. 2025 will focus on skin repairing and texture-enhancing treatments. Skincare Rejuran treatment, a celebrity-endorsed procedure, will see a rise in demand this year as many seek to enhance their skin's appearance. The procedure entails injecting polynucleotides derived from salmon DNA to enhance skin texture and elasticity. 'Rejuvenation is expected to dominate 2025 skincare trends as many seek to achieve a flawless, youthful complexion. Skincare will also include back-to-basic products for a simplified routine. Ginseng cleansing oil and panthenol cream are among the trending products for 2025. This beauty tool will complement natural beauty while improving and brightening dull skin. Make-up looks will be bigger and bolder in 2025 with cluster lashes expected to surge this year. These lashes bring the glam to glamorous looks as they deliver dramatic volume to enhance everyday or special occasion looks. Peel-off lip stains circulated the beauty industry in 2024 and are expected to dominate in 2025. The growing popularity of this product is due to its ability to provide long-lasting, transfer-proof colour to lips, enhancing a natural aesthetic. Additionally, cherry-coded aesthetics are expected to be everywhere this year as the deep, rich hue can be achieved using peel-off lip stains or bold lip looks for a dramatic effect. Nails 2025 will be another year of countless, show-stopping nail trends. Goddess Nails and Aura Nails deserve an honourable mention as these designs channel an ethereal, celestial aesthetic for bold, self-expressing nails.

I Might Never Age Backwards, But I Still Love Fatma Shaheen's Facials
A view of the entrance to Montage Palmetto Bluff, a resort located in South Carolina's lowcountry. When I arrived at Montage Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina for a facial with Fatma Shaheen, the founder of Skin Design London, I expected to have a luxury experience. The hotel, where Justin and Hailey Bieber were married, is renowned for its luxury and exclusivity. It's so exclusive, in fact, that security almost didn't let me through the front gate because they couldn't find a pass with my name on it. What I didn't expect was the deeply empowering conversation I had with Shaheen about being a woman. In the hour we had together, during which I was mostly on my back with my eyes closed, we talked about everything from divorce to motherhood to wanting to achieve financial independence as middle aged women. Some of Skin Design London's products. Occasionally, Shaheen would puncture our conversation with information about the products she was using on my face, all of which she designed personally. The Face Bath, for example, which smells like vintage rose, evokes Victorian manors and stained glass, and sits on your skin like hot wax from a candle you drip on your hand at a dinner party. And the Cherry Gloss Peel, which treats hyperpigmentation and smells exactly like Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream tastes. I've had many facials in my 42 years, and I've sampled many products that purport to treat my fine wrinkles and aging skin. My genetics are almost 100% Irish. I'm white as a ghost and deeply freckled since toddlerhood. As a result, there's almost nothing I can do to prevent myself from aging more rapidly than my peers. I knew from smell alone, however, that I'd use my Skin Design London samples until I was scraping them out of the packaging with my pinky finger, even while so many other products sit in my medicine cabinet unused. Shaheen is known as a facialist to the stars, and counts Naomi Campbell, Suki Waterhouse, Naomi Watts and Irina Shayek, among many other beautiful people, as clients. She was at Montage Palmetto Bluff to train the staff in the Montage Spa on two of her signature treatments, which include the FaceTight Facial I was receiving. After Palmetto Bluff, which is located in the low country of South Carolina, she was off to Deer Valley, and then Los Cabos, to train staff at other Montage Hotels & Resorts locations. From her biography — CEO, founder, celebrity beautician — you might assume that Shaheen is used to jet setting. But during our time together, Shaheen expressed guilt for leaving her family — a husband, three children, aging parents — in London. It's hard to be a woman and have faith that the time you're spending on yourself is worth the time taken away from those who depend on you, even when you're on the path to become a beauty tycoon. I left the facial feeling transformed. In the mirror in the changing room, my face looked flushed and youthful. It could have been the HydraFacial machine, which Shaheen used like a tiny vacuum cleaner on my skin, pulling up impurities the way I suck crumbs from the couch my children use with the crevice attachment on my Dyson. Or it could have just been that Shaheen told me that I should travel around the world giving lectures on feminism after I mumbled a few anodyne observations about how hard it is to be a working mother. After an hour in her presence, I looked in the mirror, and for the first time in a long time, felt confident in myself. It wasn't until I got back to my bathroom in Savannah that I realized that I still had remnants from the Cherry Gloss Peel, which uses real pieces of cherries, all over my face. After the facial, I had lunch by myself at the Octagon, a restaurant overlooking the pool, and then chatted up the valet, all while sporting pieces of dried cherries like gigantic spots of hyperpigmentation. No one told me. Maybe it was that the FaceTight Facial took me back to my early twenties, when I couldn't walk out of my apartment in New York without getting asked out on a date. Or maybe it was that those poor waiters and valet guys could see that I had to fight for a pass in the first place, and felt kind of bad for me. Unfortunately, you probably have to be a celebrity, or a very important person, to book an hour with Shaheen. But her signature treatments, and her products, are now available at six Montage Hotels & Resorts locations. By experiencing them, you can feel the care she has for women. Every night, while my kids go wild in my bedroom, I take a minute to myself, and wash my face with the FaceBath. I inhale the scent of roses; I feel the luxe thickness of the product on my cheeks. Sometimes, it's the only minute I have in my day when I consciously slow down. I know Shaheen would be delighted to hear that she designed the product that I use to care for myself every evening.

It's Never Too Late For Your First Facial
As Rivas is relaying this, she has started work. 'First step, proper cleansing,' she says. This involves swirling an oil cleanser over my face in smooth, rhythmic waves. Cleaning is for Rivas numero uno. 'People will do it in the morning, but not at night, or the other way around; it's important to educate people on the importance of proper cleansing.' Then Rivas begins an oxygen treatment. 'You wouldn't know this [she has assumed correctly] but oxygen has been used a lot in facials over the years,' she says. If those involve an external infusion of oxygen to the skin, Rivas wants to create an oxygen-starved surface to the skin, to encourage the body to oxygenate from within. This involves applying a gently abrasive pad that she glides over my skin, likely causing it to feel, in her words, spicy. In fact, it actually feels great; a little heat building as the lightly whirring pad is moved across my face, but none of the slightly burning feeling my skin can get if it goes near any heat source. Now we are onto the extraction moment. I brace myself for the pinching. But—get this—Rivas says, 'You have what everyone wants. You have very small pores, which is great. And when you have small pores like these, it's harder to do extractions. I don't recommend doing this at home yourself.' (Noted: No more peering into the bathroom mirror.) Lastly, she finishes with a massage, working both face and neck. It feels incredible, but also, for someone who has had a sum total of two massages in his life, a reminder that you can find yourself connecting with your body—and now, I guess, face—differently because the muscles are being stimulated in ways you're not used to. A spot of sunscreen (okay, I am converting!) and with that we're done. She leaves me to put my sweater back on, but first I have to stare into the mirror. I can never take a compliment about myself, so I will compliment Rivas instead: She has made my skin look a-mazing; brighter, lighter, softer, but maybe just as importantly, it feels great. I walk to the subway to go home, and almost don't want to take it, to not come into contact with the grime of the city after what has felt like an experience that was both utterly ethereal yet also so physical. I wasn't prepared for my skin to be so improved, and nor was I prepared for the realization that my avoidance of getting a facial was a strange avoidance of judgement on how well, or not, I look after my skin, and in a way, an extension of how well I look after myself. Rivas is a terrific facialist, for sure, but what makes her so good is her ability to sensitively intuit how to work with her clients. As I left, she had thoughts. 'Let's work on the pigment, let's work on building more collagen, more elastin in your skin,' she told me, 'so maybe some microchanneling and maybe some retinol at home—that kind of thing. I don't need you worrying about blackheads. And if you really have to focus, my focus for you would be sunscreen.' All sound (and do-able) advice, but perhaps more importantly, Rivas has turned looking into the mirror every morning, noon, and night as an act of looking ahead, not just looking at the right now.

'It's like fauxtox!' The $66 face cream that women over 40 swear by
Don't miss out on the headlines from Lifestyle. Followed categories will be added to My News. I can't really explain it, but you know that fresh smell you get when you leave a really good facial? Or the lingering scent of essential oils on your skin after a relaxing massage? That's what it smells like. "It" being a new face cream I've been using and loving. And as it turns out, I'm not the only one. Let's rewind a little. Women over 40 - or even earlier for the really unlucky ones - have been speaking openly about perimenopausal symptoms affecting their everyday life more so than ever before. They're coming together in support, and even educating the clueless men in their lives about why we are sometimes so ragey about the way they're stacking the dishwasher. Want to join the family? Sign up to our Kidspot newsletter for more stories like this. Perimenopause symptoms suck Yes, there's the mood and menstrual cycle changes, as well as hot flushes, irritability, mood swings, night sweats, sleep disruption, and changes in your libido. But what about your skin? When discussing peri symptoms, no one seems to talk about how lifeless, blotchy, and puffy your skin can get. According to my GP, I'm "not there yet" but that's certainly news to my face! Ever since I hit 40, I've been blessed with the occasional outburst of adult acne, far too much pigmentation, and just general dullness. So when I heard that one of my favourite local brands had released a cream just for women approaching their menopause phase in life, you bet I wanted to give it a try. And before you ask... NO, this isn't sponsored! I genuinely want to share it with you. RELATED: The $52 moisturiser that banishes adult acne Antipodes' Jasmine Flower face cream retails at $66. Image: Supplied The $66 face cream for women approaching menopause New Zealand skincare brand, Antipodes, recently launched their Jasmine Flower Menopause Facial Cream (RRP $66, 60ml) - a day cream that targets women who are suffering from visible symptoms of perimenopause and full-blown menopause. It's silky, cooling, smells divine with the scent of jasmine (see notes above about the smell you get leaving a facial), and targets redness, fine lines and wrinkles. When I applied the cream for the first time, I was a little worried about the thickness - it had the same consistency as a 50+ sunscreen. But within seconds of rubbing it in, the white cream soaks into your skin, leaving it super moisturised and your face full of life. "Formulated for sensitive skin, it helps with visible signs of menopause such as redness, severe dehydration, hormonal blemishes, and signs of ageing, to smooth and balance your evolving complexion," the website description reads. Born and bread in New Zealand... just for your peri skin needs. Image: Supplied "Organic oat extract calms red, irritated, and sensitive skin. Peptides from chamomile and fermented jasmine flowers help relax lines and wrinkles. New Zealand avocado oil, with collagen boosting properties, fused with manuka honey to ease signs of ageing whilst reducing blemishes." I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror a few hours after applying, and my face not only felt great, it made me look alive again! The redness and puffiness I woke up with were gone, and I was left with a radiant base that really needed nothing on top. It was like fauxtox in a jar! RELATED: What you need to know about perimenopause The women have spoken! Before launching the day cream, the Antipodes team conducted an independent clinical study with 50 women suffering from sensitive skin. After trialling it, 78% said the cream visibly calmed their irritated skin. Jennie is just one of those women who has seen a visible improvement after consistently using the cream for three weeks. "I have loved this product, it's not heavy but covers well and really left my skin feeling hydrated. I have three types of rosacea: in my eyes, the red skin one and papulopustular, and this cream has looked after all three," she praised. Jennie suffered from a heap of skin issues, which the cream seemed to settle. Image: Supplied Hanni also gave it a 5-star review, claiming she saw a "huge improvement" in her skin's moisture level. "My skin blotches are disappearing after only two weeks," she confessed. And the glowing (boom boom) reviews keep coming. "The plumpness and reduced tightness are game changers... My combination skin feels perfectly balanced—no excess oil, just smooth and hydrated," a fan wrote online. Another agreed: "This product is amazing - leaves your skin feeling and looking great. I'm sure my skin looked more youthful after using it. Love the scent too." "Lovely and smooth, my skin loves it," another fan added. Try it out for yourself! Grab a jar from Priceline, David Jones, Chemist Warehouse, Adore Beauty, Healthylife, Nourished Life as well as independent pharmacies and health shops across Australia. Just don't expect it to calm your nerves around your annoying spouse.. that will still continue! Originally published as 'It's like fauxtox!' The $66 face cream that women over 40 swear by
