US Manufacturing Activity Contracted in June for a Fourth Month
US factory activity contracted in June for a fourth consecutive month as orders and employment shrank at a faster pace, extending the malaise in manufacturing. The Institute for Supply Management's manufacturing index edged up 0.5 point last month to 49, according to data released Tuesday. Readings below 50 indicate contraction. A measure of prices paid for raw materials showed slightly faster inflation.

Britain's Manufacturing Decline Eases to Pre-Trump Tariff Levels
UK factory activity declined at its slowest pace since January and optimism improved, in signs that the sector is stabilizing after the double whammy of domestic tax increases and global tariffs. S&P Global said its manufacturing purchasing managers' index rose to 47.7 in June, unchanged from an earlier estimate. While the reading remains below the 50 threshold indicating contraction, it brings activity close to levels last seen in January before US President Donald Trump's trade war and the UK Labour government's tax hike on employers.

China's factory activity ticks up but remains below key level
China's factory activity picked up slightly in June. But its key gauge remained below the boom-or-bust line for a third month in a row, as businesses are still concerned about the future of trade talks with the US. The National Bureau of Statistics says the manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index was 49.7 for the month. That's up 0.2 from May, but still below the 50-point threshold. Figures above the mark indicate expansion, while those below suggest contraction. The Bureau surveyed 3,200 manufacturers. The index for large businesses exceeded the threshold, at 51.2. But activity at medium- and small-sized firms remained sluggish. Meanwhile, the index for the non-manufacturing sector, including service providers, improved by 0.2 points to 50.5. Washington and Beijing continue to hold tariff negotiations after slashing additional levies on each other. Concerns were somewhat eased following a round of talks in London, but this was not enough to reverse the cautious outlook.

Chinese factory activity improves slightly with delay on tariffs, but still lags
BANGKOK — Chinese factory activity improved somewhat in June after President Donald Trump agreed to delay imposing higher tariffs on imports from China for 90 days, but overall activity was still contracting, according to a survey released Monday. The purchasing managers index, which reflects new orders and other measures, rose to 49.7 from 49.5 in May, the National Bureau of Statistics reported. That's on a scale of 0 to 100 where 50 and above shows expansion.

China Growth Is on a 'Moderating Trend,' JPMorgan's Ng Says
China's factory activity in June improved but still remained in contraction. JPMorgan's Grace Ng says the manufacturing PMI data "is pretty much in line" with what the firm was looking for. She says China "will have growth moderating into the second quarter" given the US tariff policy and other external uncertainties.
