Revellers don fancy dress for booze-fuelled Otley Run as Brits to bask in 30C temps TODAY – but it won't last for long

REVELLERS have donned fancy dress for the Otley Run as the UK is set to bask in 30C temperatures. Cowgirls, union jack dresses and even cardboard ketchup bottles were spotted as boozy revellers took to the streets for a pub crawl with pals. 7 7 7 Some only donned a movie t-shirt for their costume, while multiple "devils" were also spotted as many had leftover horns from Halloween. The two-and-a-half-mile rite of passage happens multiple times a year. The historic Otley Run starts at Woodies pub in Far Headingley and finishes at The Dry Dock at the edge of the city centre. The aim of the game is to have a drink in each of the 17 pubs along the way. Participants begin at Woodies before swilling snifters at 15 other watering holes during the challenge, which takes place several times a year. Drinkers sup a final brew at the aptly named Dry Dock - a narrow boat-turned-pub. It comes after Brits spent yesterday basking in temperatures as high as 33C as thousands flocked outside to enjoy the glorious sunshine. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all saw their hottest day of the year so far with sunseekers in England soaking up the scorching heat well into the evening. wimmers and sunbathers spent the day in Bournemouth and Brighton as they enjoyed an ice cream and a dip in the cooling water. Along the coast, many celebrated Bourne Free pride parade amid the soaring temperatures. And many watching Wimbledon were grateful for Iga Swiatek's flawless clean sweep victory in the women's singles final. Under the sweltering conditions, the Pole remained focused and brushed aside Amanda Anismova in straight sets - letting the SW19 revellers get off early. What counts as a heatwave? DESPITE many Brits spending the past few days basking in the sunshine we are not officially in a heatwave. A heatwave in the UK only comes around when a location records a period of at least three consecutive days of temperatures meeting or exceeding the temperature thresholds for a heatwave. Across the north and west of the UK this is set at 25C. In Greater London and the Home Counties, this rises to a whopping 28C. Spectators were advised to slap on the sunscreen and stay hydrated as "classic summer conditions" were forecasted for the tennis final. This is the third period of high heat the UK has experienced this year, leaving many Brits chuffed with the continued warm weather. The previous two were officially noted down as heatwaves with this one yet to officially meet the threshold despite it coming close. Large swathes of the UK have met the heatwave criteria, according to the Met Office. Temperatures hit 30.8C in Aboyne and Aviemore in Scotland, while in Wales, a high of 32.4C was recorded at Usk in Monmouthshire. The Met Office had announced much of Britain should look forward to a "fine and hot day". Temperatures are set to remain warm throughout Sunday. Amber and yellow heat health alerts are still in place for the Midlands and southern and eastern England until 9am on Monday when the weather is expected to last until. Today, for the Men's Wimbledon final, where Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz will face Jannick Sinner, the mercury will dip slightly. This may come as a relief to many revellers, and players alike, with slightly more cloud cover later in the day. But it will still be a hot day for those down south, with some areas predicted to reach 29C in the afternoon. The heat alerts, issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and Met Office, mean older and vulnerable people are at greater risk due to the temperature. This is because in the heat people are more likely to suffer dehydration, heat exhaustion, and potentially deadly heatstroke. Hot weather can also worsen asthma symptoms for some people, including increased breathing difficulties, wheezing, and coughing. It warns of a possible rise in deaths among those aged 65 and over or with health conditions. Younger age groups could also be affected. There is also a higher risk for vulnerable individuals living alone or in care homes due to overheating indoors 7 7 7

Olympic champion dons Trump costume for straw race

Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee took part in his first Oxenhope Straw Race, dressed as US President Donald Trump. The former triathlete, from Dewsbury, was among 600 participants in fancy dress who raced each other between six pubs whilst carrying a bale of straw on Sunday. This year marked the 50th anniversary of the event, which dates back to the 1970s when a friendly wager between two farmers over who could haul a bale of straw between pubs the fastest sparked what would become the 2.5-mile (4km) race. Organiser Robin Wright said: "The origins of this extraordinary race are just as captivating as the event itself." According to the rules, participants must stop at five pubs along the route - The Waggon and Horses, The Bay Horse, the former "Idiot Hut" social club, The Lamb, and the former Shoulder of Mutton - downing a pint at each before making the final uphill push to the finish at the Dog and Gun. Competitors vie for more than just quick times, with prizes handed out for both the fastest teams and the most creative costumes. Brownlee, who donned a Donald Trump costume, told the BBC: "I've had a long career in professional sport but also been brought up in this area doing fell races. "This has always been something that I've seen and never been able to do and now I've got the opportunity to do it, so it's great to be here at the very famous Oxenhope Straw Race." According to organisers, the event has raised more than £500,000 for charity to date. Listen to highlights from West Yorkshire on BBC Sounds, catch up with the latest episode of Look North. Abbey Clancy flashes her toned midriff in sexy cowgirl outfit as she packs on the PDA with husband Peter Crouch at fancy dress party

Abbey Clancy looked incredible as she dressed up as a cowgirl for a fancy dress party night on Sunday night. The English model, 39, took to Instagram to share a gallery of snaps in some chic suede trousers, with fringing details and a matching jacket. Later in the night she flashed her toned midriff whipping off her white top and opting for an aztec print bralette. The beauty rocked a dark brown cowboy hat which she wore on top of her blonde locks that she had styled into loose waves. Abbey accessorised by tying a patterned handkerchief around her neck and opted for a glamorous palette of makeup. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. She also posed for a selfie with her husband Peter Crouch, who also got into the western theme. Peter rocked a double denim number which consisted of a blue shirt that he tucked in at the front and a pair of matching jeans. The former England footballer accessorised with a bulky belt and black cowboy hat. The happy couple, who tied the knot in 2011 - looked more loved up than ever as they wrapped their arms around each other and shared a passionate kiss. Abbey penned: 'Oh what a night celebrating our beautiful @ 30th birthday we love you ❤️ the best party the best people ❤️ yee haaw'. It comes after Abbey hinted that their and Pete could be adding to their brood with another baby, after already sharing four children together - Sophia, 13, Liberty, nine, Johnny, six, and Jack, five. Last month, she shared a photo of a family portrait that youngest daughter Liberty had drawn, where a baby could be seen with the words, 'maybe another' written above. Revealing she was in agreement, Abbey captioned her post: 'My darling Liberty desperately wanting me to have another baby', before addressing her husband: '@crouchy ????' The pair looked more loved up than ever as they wrapped their arms around each other and shared a passionate kiss Abbey recently revealed Peter's 'annoying' parenting habit as she opened up on her 'chaotic' family dynamic. The model candidly admitted the former footballer can sometimes get on her nerves when it comes to parenting their four children. She told OK! magazine: 'Pete's good cop and I'm bad cop. I'm the one going, "Do your homework, eat your veg", and Pete's like, "Let's play, kids!" which can be annoying but… it works. 'Our kids are very good, though. They've all got distinct personalities but they're all easy-going. That's not to say family life isn't chaotic – it's chaotic! 'There's absolutely nothing chilled about, but we wouldn't have it any other way.' Abbey also dubbed Peter 'useless' as she confirmed her fears over her sex life confessions. The couple, who hosts the Therapy Crouch podcast, explained to the Mirror how they keep their spark alive after 14 years of marriage. She told the publication that despite spending all their time together, she doesn't feel like she 'needs space' away from him. But Abbey did explain that when she is feeling unwell, she does need some space because Peter is a 'c**p nurse'. She said: 'I don't need 'space' from Peter – unless I'm ill, like I am at the minute, because he's a c**p nurse and I want him to go away! He's useless then.' During their podcast Abbey is very open and honest about her private life, which also tends to involve some very racy information about their sex life. And while she and Peter seem unbothered by disclosing their bedroom antics, she did confess that she worries she will say something she doesn't.

Beer we go! Otley Runners brave sizzling mini-heatwave to go on 19-pub booze crawl as Britain bathes in temperatures hotter than Ibiza

Revellers today hit the streets of West Yorkshire to take part in the infamous Otley Run pub crawl as Britain basked in temperatures hotter than Ibiza. The party animals were seen in an array of fancy dress outfits, with many taking inspiration from the newly-elected Pope Leo XIV. And as they travelled through the 19-stop journey in Leeds, the swathes of youngsters stopped to pose for photographs as the sun beamed down on them. Some of the most creative costumes on show ranged from attempts at Minnie Mouse to the cast of The Inbetweeners and full suit 'Minions' from the Despicable Me film series. Others, perhaps sensibly dressing for the warmer weather, opted for Hawaiian shirts which they paired with the traditional flower necklace known as a Lei. In Leeds, temperatures peaked at around 20C between 2-3pm, meaning the North Yorkshire city was as hot as parts of the Balearic islands. Meanwhile London was today one of the hottest cities in Europe, with its highs of 25C putting the likes of Lisbon, Barcelona and Rome to shame on the thermostat front. Though it is not all good news for the rest of the weekend on the UK weather map. Forecasters at the Met Office have warned that thunderstorms, hail and lightning could hit parts of Britain tomorrow. Most of this is said to affect South Wales and parts of the West Midlands, with Met Office meteorologist Jonathan Vautrey saying there could be 'heavy, short sharp' bursts of rain and hail and lightning. He told MailOnline this morning: 'As is the case with thunderstorms, they're often quite hit and miss. 'Obviously it has been a pretty dry spring so for many areas rain is needed, but because of the heavy nature of these showers, splashing onto hard surfaces, there is the potential for minor localised issues and flooding.' The wet weather could also see areas in Northern Ireland and Scotland over Sunday and Monday affected. But for British partygoers soaking in the Saturday sun, that news is tomorrow's problem, and it certainly didn't dampen spirits today. Some sun worshippers were seen enjoying the baking heat by going paddle boarding in the spring sunshine on River Nidd in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire - around 30 minutes from where the Otley Run takes place. Londoners also flocked to the Thames embankment by Putney riverside in south west London. Pictured: People relaxing in the warm sunshine on the Thames embankment by Putney riverside, south west London But for those who braved the Otley Run today, it showed another marker of defiance two weeks after an extremist tried to massacre youngsters on the route with his crossbow last month. Owen Lawrence, 38, shot two women - aged 19 and 31 - with a crossbow along the route of the pub crawl before turning the weapon on himself on Saturday, April 26. Just hours before Lawrence made the three minute walk from his flat to the Otley Road, he published a Facebook manifesto dubbed 'The Otley Run Massacre'. Under a post titled 'attack information', Lawrence listed his 'targets', which included 'students, night club goers, Otley Run participants', as well as 'neurotypicals, and the police'. Just hours before Lawrence made the three minute walk from his flat to the Otley Road, he published a Facebook manifesto dubbed 'The Otley Run Massacre' He went on to list what category the attack would fall under: 'Mass murder, terrorism, revenge, misogynyic [sic] rage, homicide/suicide.' Lawrence said in the post he would be using a range of weapons including four different types of guns, a crossbow, an 'unbreakable' baseball bat and two lollipop shanks. Lawrence later died in hospital as a result of his injuries.
