How Uniqlo became fashion editors' cult pick. Every insider is wearing it - now style guru HANNAH SKELLEY lifts the lid on exactly what to buy so you don't look basic
If you ask a seasoned fashion editor where her trousers are from, thanks to Uniqlo, it's likely she'll tell you they're high street rather than haute couture. This Japanese outlet has fast become the industry insider secret and go-to for unbranded essentials, in clean cut neutrals, that are so nondescript you can wear them undetected on the front row. And this summer, the brand's jersey barrel leg trousers are its next stealth-wealth looking hit.

3 Vogue Editors Reveal Their Go-To T-Shirts—And How to Style Them
Finding the best wardrobe essentials can be a lengthy process. Whether it's a pair of straight-leg jeans that hug each curve just right, a comfortable and versatile button-up shirt, or a little white dress suitable for both the office and after-hours events, the search often takes time. Among these staples, the quest for the perfect T-shirt is one that every fashion enthusiast undertakes. It needs to meet all the criteria, starting with the right shape, neckline, and fabric. Arguably one of the best places to find said must-haves is UNIQLO—the Japanese retailer is an editor go-to for well-made basics at thoughtful price points. A sartorial white whale for many, a go-to T-shirt is an essential part of almost any wardrobe, regardless of changing trends, personal style shifts, and color preferences. For many Vogue staffers a classic plain style, be it in white, grey, or black, serves as a universal layering piece under sweaters, blazers, and trench coats. It can also make a proclamation, featuring bold stripes, a favorite sports team, or a tribute to a hometown hero. The best T-shirts, whether a relaxed crewneck or subtly cropped, can be paired with almost anything, from low-rise jeans to silky skirts. Below, 3 Vogue editors share what they look for in a T-shirt and how they came to find the perfect fit for them at UNIQLO. Mai Morsch, fashion editor 'My colleagues joke that I am the queen of basics—and it's true, I am almost always in jeans and a tee. While my outfit formulas are simple, I put a lot of thought into fit and fabric, and I can confidently say that UNIQLO'S pieces are timeless, well-made, and genuinely chic. My style philosophy is always that once you have a solid base wardrobe, it's easy to build out your personal style with one-of-a-kind, vintage, or trend-forward pieces. I love how this T-shirt from the UNIQLO U Collection echoes the effortless vibe of a classic baby tee. It hits just at the waist, making it super versatile—pair it with a low-rise pair of jeans for a laid-back weekend look, or tuck it into high-rise trousers for something more polished. The fabric is soft but structured, holding its shape without wrinkling, and the cap sleeve adds a flattering touch. With many colors to choose from, it's a fantastic staple to stock up on. I leaned into the '90s feel of this UNIQLO U tee by layering a ribbed tank underneath, which adds just the right amount of texture and dimension. I also chose to wear it with dark-wash jeans from the UNIQLO x JW Anderson collab, which have quickly become a go-to thanks to their classic straight-leg cut and slightly rigid feel. The whole look feels simple but considered. I styled it with a heeled sandal, but honestly, it's the kind of outfit I could wear with any shoe, in any season.' Uniqlo UNIQLO U crew neck t-shirt $15 UNIQLO Uniqlo x JW Anderson straight jeans $50 UNIQLO Leah Faye Cooper, digital style director 'I prefer tees to button-downs and knits, so I own a lot of them. I'm partial to cropped tees, and love that this one falls into that category, but doesn't expose the midriff when worn with a high-waisted skirt or pair of trousers. (If I'm open to showing a bit more skin, I'd wear it with a skirt that fits lower on the hips.) The cotton is perfect—stretchy with a nice heft to it, and incredibly soft and comfortable. These have enough structure to work for the office, but are perfect for a laid-back weekend look, too. I styled my white tee with a silk midi skirt and denim jacket, draped over my shoulders—a look I turn to often when I want to dress casual but feel put together.' Irene Kim, production and editorial associate 'Finding the perfect simple tee is harder than you think. But UNIQLO makes it so easy for you, especially with their U collection designed by Christophe Lemaire and Sarah Linh Tran. First of all, you can get it for less than $20—a rarity I find these days—and it's made of a thick and heavyweight cotton so that your bra doesn't show through, which I find to be my biggest struggle when wearing T-shirts.

Michelle Keegan reveals the 5 fashion items she'll be packing for her summer holidays – and how to style them
A holiday on the horizon and no clue on what to pack? As someone whose summer wardrobe is made up of dresses (poplin minis, floral midis, linen maxis – you name and I've got it), they're the answer to all my warm-weather packing woes. My golden rule? A dress for every night, plus a few extra if your baggage allowance permits. But there is another cheat code for getting dressed quickly, whilst still looking put together, and that's a matching set. (Our fashion editor Hannah Skelley has rounded up 11 office-appropriate co-ords for summer here.) Not only can they be thrown over a bikini as a cover-up by the beach, or worn with a pair of comfortable sandals for an excursion out exploring the town, but they can also be glammed up with a raffia bag and statement earrings come nighttime. And Michelle Keegan agrees. 'Co-ords are a holiday non-negotiable for me,' says the actress. 'They are an effortless way to look and feel put together, and make packing for vacations so much easier. They require little planning; can be worn together or separately, from daytime events to evening moments. The options are endless.' From a tailored co-ord to a matching knitted set, Keegan's latest collection for Very includes more than a few summer looks that can be worn on holiday, or on repeat when you're back in the UK. Below, we asked her to share five of her favourite looks from the edit – and her tips on how to style each of them. 'This set is perfect for an evening look on holiday. I love pairing this co-ord with a kitten keel and simple gold jewellery.' 'This knitted co-ord is a cute option for the daytime. Styled over a bikini, with a pair of white flip flops and a raffia beach bag – the dream holiday outfit trio.' 'Tailoring will forever be my go-to for a sleek and put-together look. Simple and timeless, this shorts set is a seasonal staple. I would team it with gold seashell earrings and a pair of heeled mules to add a touch of fun.' 'There is always room for fun prints in your holiday wardrobe and this vibrant print is my ultimate pick. I would keep the styling extra simple: raffia sandals and a micro clutch bag.' Printed Shirt £30 Shop 'Packing pieces that make you look good and feel even better is essential. This halter-neck co-ord is so flattering. I would elevate the look with some chunky bangles or a metallic clutch.'

WORK This dress is great for the summer months if you're heading to the office. A great throw on midi dress so you don't have to think too much about your outfit in the morning. If you want to make it extra business, add a waistcoat as shown here. This would also look great buttoned up to make the dress look like a skirt too for an extra style of outfit. By adding a jacket over the top like this cropped trench from Mango it makes the dress look and feel more casual. A cross body bag means you've got your hands free and the great thing about this dress is that is also works well with trainers, like this pair from Next. LUNCH DATE At first glance the brown polka dot pattern is a big nod to the infamous dress worn by Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. So why not embrace the style, wearing the dress on its own with a few accessories to compliment. Whilst the dress is patterned don't be afraid to clash, this neck scarf from Joe Browns has a subtle pastel design so doesn't detract from the dress.
