Ontario hires first female mine rescue officer
April Belecque made history as Ontario Mine Rescue's first female officer after a decade as a volunteer. Chief Shawn Rideout praised her mining expertise and calm under pressure. Belecque called the new title a huge honour and said she hopes it will inspire others. Madison Marier reports.

Moment cop punched in FACE by rampaging yob as she tried to break up broad-daylight street fight
WATCH the shocking moment a thug punches a cop in the face. Video footage shows a female police officer being attacked by a cowardly thug while he is detained. 3 3 The incident occurred in the Handsworth Wood area of Birmingham over the weekend. A man in a pink shirt is already being detained by police when another man brutally punches the woman holding him. The black-jacket clad thug then hits another man in a blue top next to him, as the detained pink-shirted man attempts to break free. Meanwhile the hurt police officer can be seen staggering backwards and holding her head. While the two men continue to fight, the man in the pink shirt kicks the car next to where he is detained. An onlooker can be heard saying: "What the f**k. Oh my God, she's just been hit. No way, no way. Oh my God." He adds: "They are going to have to call back up. It's women, that's not right, why have they not sent men?" Thankfully, the brave police officer quickly recovers to take control of the situation. After breaking the fight apart she manages to detain the hat-wearing assailant, while the third man in the blue top walks away. Both men can then be seen being held to the ground by the cops. One of the police officers radios for backup while pinning the men's arms behind them. A woman in a pink tracksuit decides to get involved in the tense moment, walking over to stand on the attacker's head. A sickening thud can be heard as his head smacks into the ground. The video has since gone viral on social media after it was uploaded by Birmz Is Grime. One commenter said: "All blokes standing about." Another added: "Instead of filming, why don't you go and help?" Others were satisfied by the video's ending, commenting "I'm so glad he got his karma in the end." While another wrote: "Taste of vigilante justice at the end." Some commenters suggested the women deserved a pay rise after seeing how difficult their job can be. West Midlands Police has been approached for comment.

Moment thug punches female officer in the face before she bravely brushes off the attack and pins him to the ground
This is the shocking moment a thug smacked a female police officer in the face as she attempted to arrest him. The officer was viciously attacked as she tried to break up a fight between two men in the Lozells area of Birmingham on Sunday afternoon. Her colleague can already be seen detaining one man in a pink t-shirt but as she approaches the two brawling males she is punched firmly in the face. The hurt officer can be seen staggering back and holding her head while the grey-haired yob returns to fighting with the other man. An onlooker can be heard saying: 'What the f**k. Oh my God, she's just been hit. No way, no way. Oh my God. 'They are going to have to call back up. It's women, that's not right, why have they not sent men?' The brave officer can be seen returning to grapple with her attacker, who is dressed in black and wearing a green cap. A second clip then shows the two female cops pinning both suspects to the ground while one radios for back-up. A woman dressed in pink walks over and appears to stamp on the head of the man had who punched the officer moments earlier and a sickening thud can be heard as his head hits the ground. The footage has since been viewed thousands of times after being uploaded to social media. One web user commented 'All blokes standing about' while another added: 'Instead of filming, why don't you go and help?' Another person wrote: 'I'm so glad he got his karma in the end' and one person said: #Taste of vigilante justice at the end there.' A fifth said 'and not one man who was watching came to these ladies defence' while another added: 'A pay rise for these two.' West Midlands Police said one officer was taken to hospital as a result of the attack. A force spokesman said: 'While responding to disorder on Heathfield Road, Lozells, shortly after 1.30pm on Sunday, two of our officers were assaulted. 'The officers were hurt and one was taken to hospital but thankfully her injuries are not life changing. Video footage also appeared to show the moment a woman allegedly stamped on one of the men's heads while they were being detained 'A police car was also damaged during the incident. 'The officers detained two men at the scene, and both were arrested. 'One, aged 27, is being questioned on suspicion of assault, assaulting a police officer, and criminal damage. 'The other man, aged 51, is being questioned on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. 'We do not tolerate violence against our officers and our investigation is continuing.' A police spokesman added it investigation was continuing over a woman allegedly seen stamping on one man's head.

Carlisle police officer injured after being stabbed in face
A woman has been arrested after a police officer was stabbed in the Police said the female officer suffered an injury after the force was called to a property near Newtown Road, Carlisle, at 09:30 BST. The injury has not been described as life-threatening but the officer is receiving treatment in hospital.A 25-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion on grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in custody.
