Air India to restore some international flights following reduction over crash

As part of the partial resumption, Air India has reduced flights to some destinations in Europe and North America. (Air India pic) BENGALURU : Air India said on Tuesday it would partially restore its international flight schedule that was scaled back following the crash involving its flight last month that killed 260 people. As part of the restoration, Air India will start a thrice-weekly service between Ahmedabad and London Heathrow from Aug 1 to Sept 30, replacing the currently operating five-times-a-week flights between Ahmedabad and London Gatwick. A Boeing Dreamliner bound for London from the Indian city of Ahmedabad began to lose thrust and crashed shortly after takeoff on June 12. All but one of the 242 people on board and 19 others on the ground were killed. Air India reduced some of its international flights following the crash as part of a 'safety pause' that the carrier said allowed it to perform additional precautionary checks on its Boeing 787 aircraft. The partial service resumption will see some flights being restored from Aug 1, with full restoration planned from Oct 1, 2025, Air India said. As part of the partial resumption, Air India has reduced flights to some destinations in Europe and North America. These include reductions in the frequency of Delhi-to-Paris flights to seven times a week from 12, effective Aug 1. Flights on the Delhi-Milan route have been reduced to three times a week from four earlier. The frequency of flights from Mumbai and Delhi to New York JFK has been cut to six times a week from seven earlier, the airline said.

Qatar Airways to Resume Flights to Aleppo

Qatar Airways has announced the resumption of three weekly flights connecting Doha and Aleppo starting August 10, with services to increase to four times weekly from September 1. The weekday schedule will include departures from Doha on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays aboard Flight QR414 (08:30–11:40), with the return Flight QR415 from Aleppo departing at 13:55 and arriving in Doha at 17:00. This reinstates Qatar Airways' presence in Aleppo—a destination it has served since 2011—following the successful resumption of flights to Damascus earlier in 2025 . Aleppo now becomes the airline's second Syrian destination, underscoring a strategic expansion to bolster regional connectivity and post-conflict restoration. Reopening this route is a pivotal development for both the aviation industry and Syria's ongoing recovery. Enhanced air access facilitates business travel, humanitarian missions, and family reunions through Hamad International Airport in Doha, a globally renowned hub. For travelers and diaspora families, these flights offer crucial access to Aleppo, a city of deep cultural significance and resilience in Syria. With Qatar Airways affirming its commitment to safety and seamless operations, bookings are now open via the airline's app and website, paving the way for renewed personal and commercial travel. UK lifts years-long ban on Pakistani airlines after improvement in air safety standards

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Britain has lifted a years-long ban on Pakistani airlines following improvements in the country's aviation safety standards, the British diplomatic mission in Islamabad said Wednesday. The U.K.'s Air Safety Committee imposed the ban after Pakistan's aviation minister in June 2020 disclosed that nearly one-third of the country's pilots had cheated on their licensing exams. The claim came after a Pakistan International Airlines crash killed 97 people on May 24, 2020, in the southern city of Karachi. Wednesday's announcement follows a broader international recognition of Pakistan's efforts to improve air safety. Earlier this year, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency also lifted its five-year-long ban, allowing the national flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines to resume direct flights to Europe. British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said that after 'extensive engagement' between the U.K.'s Air Safety Committee and the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority, restrictions on Pakistani airlines have now been lifted. U.K. diplomatic missions in Commonwealth countries are known as high commissions and are equivalent to embassies. However, Marriott said individual airlines will still need to apply for operating permits from the U.K. Civil Aviation Authority. 'I'm grateful to aviation experts in both the U.K. and Pakistan for their collaborative work to meet international safety standards,' she said. 'While it will take time for flights to resume, once the logistics are in place, I look forward to using a Pakistani carrier when visiting family and friends." The high commission emphasized that decisions on delisting countries or carriers from the U.K. Air Safety List are made through an independent safety process overseen by the Air Safety Committee. With more than 1.6 million people of Pakistani heritage living in the U.K., and thousands of British nationals residing in Pakistan, it said the move will help families to reconnect and potentially boost bilateral trade ties. Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif welcomed the decision. Speaking at a televised news conference on Wednesday, he attributed the ban to what he described as 'baseless' remarks made by former aviation minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan. He said Khan's claim tarnished the country's image and triggered significant financial losses for Pakistan International Airlines. Munir Ahmed, The Associated Press
