With these display upgrades, Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the ultimate Samsung clamshell

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be unveiled next month, and become available for purchase in August. Much like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung has drastically improved the design of its clamshell foldable phone, and it's basically as good as it gets for now. A new leak ( translated source ) adds on to previous reports about the phone's display upgrades over the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The exterior screen is going up from 3.5 inches to four inches, while the main display is going from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. When unfolded, the Flip 7 will be just as large as most flagship smartphones nowadays. Furthermore, corroborating the recent leaked Flip 7 renders, the outer display will have more screen real estate, as the camera cutout has been removed. That design will now be seen on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, Samsung's budget foldable that is also going to be announced next month. The FE will become available for purchase in August as well. Leaked Galaxy Z Flip 7 render. | Image credit — Evan Blass Lastly, the report claims that the bezels of the main display have been further narrowed down. The Flip 7 is basically as good as clamshell foldable smartphones can get, except for the battery, of course. In classic Samsung fashion, the battery is expected to be pretty small compared to the competition, and the charging speeds will be slow as well. Speaking of the competition, the Flip 7 reminds me of the Xiaomi Mix Flip. That phone is almost as large as the Flip 7 , and doesn't have a large camera cutout either. Its bezels are pretty narrow as well, and its battery is bigger too. The Mix Flip is also powered by a Snapdragon processor. Samsung will be using the Exynos 2500 for the Flip 7 , while the upcoming Mix Flip 2 will use the Snapdragon 8 the Flip 7 , all Samsung needs to do now is improve its battery capacity and charging speeds. If long-term software support or One UI aren't that important to you, then the Mix Flip 2 is probably a much better choice. But the Flip 7 will definitely give Xiaomi a run for its money. A new Galaxy Z Flip 7 rival brings impressive specs, and a truly strange add-on

Xiaomi TL;DR Xiaomi has launched the Mix Flip 2 foldable phone in China. The new foldable has a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and a battery that's larger than the one inside the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Xiaomi is also offering a portable camera kit, which combines a camera grip with a photo printer. Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in a couple of weeks, and we've already got a rough idea of what to expect. What if you want more impressive Flip phone hardware, though? Well, Xiaomi has just launched the Mix Flip 2, but it also comes with one of the strangest accessories we've seen in a while. Xiaomi offers several accessories for the Mix Flip 2, such as a screw cap case that protects the cover screen. However, the portable camera kit is the standout add-on here. This is a hybrid camera grip and thermal photo printer. The kit connects to the bottom of the phone and offers a camera shutter button. However, the accessory also spits out photo prints via a slot on the back. The portable camera kit looks quite cumbersome, and there's an argument that this defeats the purpose of a Flip foldable in the first place. After all, one of the advantages of this form factor is the pocket-friendly approach. Most people are probably better off buying a standalone portable photo printer, but it's an interesting idea nonetheless. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing similar camera grips for the top camera phones. What else to know about Mix Flip 2? Xiaomi's device stands out from other clamshell foldable phones thanks to a large, 5,165mAh battery. This would dwarf the Galaxy Z Flip 7's rumored 4,300mAh battery and is slightly larger than the Galaxy S25 Ultra's 5,000mAh cell. Need to top up? Well, the phone also offers 67W wired and 50W wireless charging. We've heard conflicting rumors about the Galaxy Z Flip 7's processor, with the latest leaks pointing to an Exynos 2500 chip. However, the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 ships with a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. This is expected to be more powerful than the Exynos SoC, theoretically making it better for demanding workloads and advanced games. Otherwise, the Xiaomi foldable has a 6.83-inch 120Hz folding OLED screen (2,912 x 1,224, 3,200 nits peak brightness). Xiaomi says this screen has a 'Super Flat Crease' that's apparently certified to stay flat after 200,000 folds. Meanwhile, a 4.01-inch 120Hz cover screen (1,392 x 1,208, Dragon Crystal Shield 2.0 protection) is available on the outside. This external display supports 500 commonly used apps, while Xiaomi has also brought three new animated pet avatars to this panel. In a fun touch, the Mix Flip 2 can also turn pictures of your real pets into animated avatars on the cover display's lock screen. Check out the official video below for a better idea. Moving to the cameras, the flip foldable offers two Leica-branded 50MP rear cameras. There's a 50MP main camera (Light Hunter 800, 1/1.56-inch) and a 50MP ultrawide lens. Expect a 32MP selfie camera on the folding screen, although you can also use the rear cameras to take selfies. Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 price and availability The Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 is available in China and starts at 5,999 yuan (~$837) for the base 12GB/256GB model. Want the portable camera kit? Then you'll need to spend 699 yuan (~$98). We've asked Xiaomi about global availability and will update our article accordingly. For what it's worth, the original Mix Flip was available outside China but was restricted to a few markets. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . The world's lightest Fold is here, and it claims to work with your Apple Watch too

TL;DR Vivo has launched the X Fold 5 foldable phone in China. This is the world's lightest book-style foldable phone, but it still has a 6,000mAh battery and IP5X/IPX8/IPX9 ratings. The vivo X Fold 5 starts at ~$976 in China. Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7 next month, but several rival manufacturers are waiting in the wings already. Now, vivo has launched the X Fold 5 foldable phone in China today. The X Fold 5 is a follow-up to last year's X Fold 3, which, at 219 grams, was the world's lightest book-style foldable phone. However, the X Fold 5 just about steals this crown by weighing in at 217 grams. The phone is a relatively svelte 9.2mm thick when folded. That means the OPPO Find N5 is still the thinnest book-style foldable on the market. However, vivo's new device also brings IP5X dust resistance, IPX8 water resistance, and an IPX9 rating for resistance to high-pressure water jets and hot water. This might be the first foldable phone to offer both dust- and water-resistance in the same package. By contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has an IP48 rating, which means it can survive a dunk in water but isn't rated to withstand dust. vivo Despite the lightweight design, the vivo X Fold 5 packs a 6,000mAh battery into its frame. Vivo claims this is the first foldable phone with a 6,000mAh battery, putting it on par with conventional phones like the OnePlus 13 and vivo X200 Pro. Once you've run out of juice, you can use 80W wired or 40W wireless charging. The phone also has an 8.03-inch OLED folding screen (2,480 x 2,200, LTPO), a 6.53-inch OLED cover screen (2,748 × 1,172, LTPO), and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. Other notable hardware specs include a side fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 7, and an IR blaster. That chip isn't the latest and greatest Snapdragon silicon, but it should still be more than enough for demanding tasks. As for camera hardware, the new foldable phone offers a triple rear camera setup. This consists of a 50MP main camera (IMX921), a 50MP ultrawide lens (1/2.76-inch), and a 50MP 3x camera (IMX882, macro support). A 20MP camera is also found on each screen for selfies and video chats. The X Fold 5 runs Origin OS 15 based on Android 15. This software includes a rather cool multitasking system with up to five apps running at once. One main app covers most of the screen while four smaller app windows appear above the main app window. However, vivo also offers groundbreaking integration with Apple devices. For starters, the company says it's the first Android phone that can connect to the Apple Watch, supporting phone calls, texts, notification mirroring, synchronization of health/fitness data, and more. However, there are a couple of caveats to this integration. Your Apple Watch needs to be paired with an iPhone first. Furthermore, vivo says this functionality will come via a system update. The X Fold 5 also supports 'seamless' connectivity with Apple's AirPods and deep integration with Macs (such as using the foldable as an extended screen). The device can also pair with your iPhone, so all your calls, texts, and notifications from your iPhone are accessible via the foldable. Almost all of these features will likely require an app download. The company currently requires Mac users to download the vivo Office Kit app for Mac integration on existing OriginOS phones. Nevertheless, vivo was first to offer Mac integration on Android, so we're keen to see how this expanded Apple integration pans out. The vivo X Fold 5 seems to be a China-only release right now. Expect to pay 6,999 yuan (~$976) for the 12GB/256GB model, all the way to 9,499 yuan (~$1,325) for the 16GB/1TB model. In any event, rumors point to the phone launching in India. So our fingers are crossed for a wider release. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . You can stay anonymous or get credit for the info, it's your choice.

This Galaxy Z Flip 7 rival has a bigger battery than S25 Ultra

TL;DR Xiaomi has officially shown off the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2, while also confirming several details. The new foldable phone will have a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a 5,165mAh battery, and 50W wireless charging. The Mix Flip 2 launches on Thursday in China, but there's no word on a wider release. Samsung is preparing to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 7 next month, but rival brand Xiaomi is getting a head start by launching the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 this week. Now, the manufacturer has given us a look at the flip phone and revealed the first details. Xiaomi posted images and a video on Weibo today, giving us a first proper look at the Mix Flip 2. Check out the image gallery below. Xiaomi also posted a brief teaser, seen below. The images and video show off a slim design, a checkerboard pattern on the gold model, and a cover display that seems in line with the original Mix Flip. We've also got a dual rear camera system, with Xiaomi mentioning that this has Leica branding. The manufacturer also posted a few details about the new flip foldable. For starters, the Mix Flip 2 is packing a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and a 5,165mAh battery. That means it'll have a bigger battery than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Xiaomi adds that the phone will come with 50W wireless charging. Xiaomi's upcoming phone also has a 4.01-inch micro-curved cover screen (3,200 nits peak brightness) and an 'amazingly flat' 6.86-inch folding screen with an 'extremely shallow' crease. In fact, Xiaomi says that after 200,000 folds, the average crease depth should be less than 50 microns, or equivalent to half the thickness of a sheet of paper. In other words, the crease shouldn't become extremely noticeable over time. The folding display also has ultra-thin glass (UTG) measuring 50 microns thick, which is in line with the Galaxy Z Flip 6's apparent UTG thickness. Otherwise, the phone is said to measure 7.57mm thick and weigh 199 grams. There are still plenty of unknowns about the Mix Flip 2, but Xiaomi will answer most of these questions on Thursday when it launches the phone. This is expected to be a China-only launch, and there's no word on a wider release just yet. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Streamlined Design The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to feature a cleaner and more compact design, reflecting Samsung's commitment to balancing portability with functionality. This design evolution caters to users who prioritize portability without compromising on features. By refining the physical aspects of the phone, Samsung is addressing the growing demand for foldable devices that are both innovative and practical. Improved Software Functionality The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to excel in the software department, particularly in how it uses the outer display. Samsung is likely to introduce expanded app compatibility, enhanced widgets, and improved multitasking capabilities, allowing you to accomplish more without needing to unfold the device. In addition, the phone is expected to incorporate Samsung's advanced software features, such as resizable app windows and desktop modes. These tools are designed to provide seamless transitions between mobile and desktop-like experiences, making the Galaxy Z Flip 7 a versatile choice for both personal and professional use. This focus on software innovation highlights Samsung's dedication to enhancing user experience through practical and intuitive solutions. Competing in a Crowded Market The foldable phone market is becoming increasingly competitive, with Motorola's RAZR series setting high standards for outer screen functionality.
