Saudi Students Win Six Medals at Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad
Six Saudi students achieved a new international milestone today by winning six medals at the 29th edition of the Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (JBMO 2025), held in North Macedonia from June 24 to 29, with 135 students participating from 23 countries. The Saudi team earned two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, reaffirming their competitiveness and academic excellence on the global stage, SPA reported. This accomplishment is the result of years of intensive training overseen by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), in partnership with the Ministry of Education, as part of their joint efforts to discover and nurture gifted students and prepare them for international competitions. Team members were selected through a series of rigorous tests conducted within the National Program for Gifted Identification, along with advanced scientific training camps led by elite local and international trainers. This marks the Kingdom's 14th participation in the Olympiad, bringing its total medal count to 11 gold, 24 silver, and 29 bronze medals, reflecting the steady progress of Saudi participation year after year. By comparison, the Kingdom's previous participation in the JBMO yielded one silver and four bronze medals. Launched in 1997 in the former Yugoslavia, the JBMO is held annually for students under the age of 15, with each country allowed a maximum of six participants. Organized in rotation by the Balkan countries and Cyprus, the Olympiad is considered one of the most prestigious regional mathematics competitions.

KAIN welcomes 60 students as part of Mawhiba Research Enrichment Program
RIYADH: The King Abdullah Institute for Nanotechnology, established by King Saud University, will welcome 60 'gifted students' on Sunday as part of the Mawhiba Research Enrichment Program, a four-week initiative aimed at developing scientific skills and research experience among Saudi youth, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Run in collaboration with the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), the program 'harnesses the potential of gifted students, offering them hands-on experience in laboratories and production facilities, while introducing them to the fundamentals and ethics of scientific research under the supervision of specialized researchers,' the SPA wrote. Hamad Abdulaziz Albrithen, general supervisor of KAIN, explained that the institute's overarching goal is 'to serve the community by transferring knowledge to younger generations through the use of advanced laboratory equipment and the expertise of distinguished researchers from diverse scientific disciplines.' Ahmed bin Abdulkarim Al-Saleh, head of the Mawhiba program at KSU for 2025, highlighted the importance of such programs in providing exceptional students with the opportunity to conduct scientific research at KSU's top-tier research chairs and centers. Al-Saleh also noted that the program offers 'a wide range of skill-building activities, including Python programming, AI and its scientific applications, as well as enrichment trips to research centers beyond the university campus.'

2025 Summer Programme for Gifted Students launched in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate
Nizwa: The activities of the 2025 Summer Programme for Gifted Students in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate began on Tuesday. The programme, organised by the Directorate General of Education in the governorate, targets more than 80 male and female students from various wilayats of the governorate as part of the national "Tharwa" programme for nurturing gifted students. Ahmed Marhoon Al Busaidi, a senior gifted student care specialist, stated that the program offers a rich experience combining creativity and knowledge. It aims to refine students' personalities and enhance their future capabilities, with programmes tailored to their individual interests and talents, opening up diverse horizons in literature, science, technology, and the arts. This programme serves as a comprehensive training pathway to develop the skills of gifted students and refine their abilities in four key areas: literature, science, technology, and the arts. It includes training programs and hands-on workshops conducted across several leading educational institutions and centers.
