CST announces Spectrum Outlook for Commercial and Innovative Use 2024-2027 plan
The Saudi Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST) announced its plan for the "Spectrum Outlook for Commercial and Innovative Use 2024-2027".
The plan is focused on ensuring the efficient use of the radio spectrum, positioning it as a key enabler of digital transformation, economic growth, and the Kingdom's global competitiveness, the CST said in an emailed statement to Argaam.
It added that the impact of the plan is expected to extend across various sectors by enabling advanced solutions, while also enhancing the Kingdom's readiness to host major global events that require intensive spectrum use. Additionally, it supports public telecommunications networks by providing the necessary frequencies to ensure service quality and improve coverage levels.
The plan will pave the way for maximizing the potential of the radio spectrum by introducing flexible and advanced regulatory frameworks that meet the future needs of wireless technologies, the CST added.
It also aims to enable the deployment of non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) and satellite applications, increase the available spectrum for public telecommunications networks, support fixed wireless access (FWA), and enhance spectrum sharing through light-licensing and the dynamic automated frequency coordination models (AFC), which will allow next-generation Wi-Fi networks to operate outdoors.
