Food Prices Rose in June, Driven by Meat, Vegetable-Oil Increases
Food prices rose in June as higher meat, vegetable-oil and dairy prices offset lower cereal and sugar prices, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations said.
The FAO's food price index, which tracks global prices for a basket of staple foods, averaged 128.0 points in June, compared with May's level of 127.7 points. Prices are up 5.8% on year, but remain more than 20% below the all-time high of March 2022, shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.
