Sydney 'crook' chaser denied bail over offences related to alleged theft of safe with contents worth almost $1 million

A Sydney man who says he chases "crooks and their crooks" has been denied bail in the ACT Magistrates Court, amid allegations about a stolen safe containing nearly $1 million in gold bullion, coins and ammunition. Ray Younan, 63, was initially arrested in May when he was extradited from Sydney to Canberra. He is charged with incitement and unlawfully confining a person. Today the court heard the safe was stolen from inside a Canberra home. The court heard the owners did not call police, instead they called Mr Younan, who lists himself as a "mediator". Magistrate Jane Campbell told the court it is alleged Mr Younan had been paid $10,000 to recover the safe and its contents, from the person the owners believed had taken it. Material revealed to the court alleges that person found Mr Younan in their house with a sledgehammer, demanding to know where the safe was. It is alleged that when the person said they didn't know where the safe was, a meeting was arranged at a sporting field. The person said when they arrived Mr Younan was not there, but there were three other people, one of whom beat them with a bat. Magistrate Campbell read some telephone intercept transcripts alleged to be a conversation between Mr Younan and one of the owners of the safe, saying he had organised the assault. In another conversation allegedly between Mr Younan and another man, he said "I've done this for 35 years". Mr Younan's lawyer asked the court to release him from custody for health reasons, saying he had missed key medical appointments. He also offered a surety from Mr Younan's wife, saying his client could abide by strict conditions at his home in Sydney. But prosecutors said there was a real risk of reoffending and interfering with evidence, which no bail conditions could address. The court heard it was a strong prosecution case, where Mr Younan's actions had transgressed into "standover work", a term for a person employed by someone else to intimidate a victim. Magistrate Campbell agreed. She found no court conditions could overcome her concerns, and denied bail. The safe was later found empty at Mawson Ponds. The contents have not been recovered. Mr Younan's case will return to court in September.

Streamex' proprietary real-world asset (the 'RWA') platform will bring the approx. $142 trillion commodities market on the blockchain powered by Streamex & Solana. The transaction was led by: Cantor Fitzgerald & Co., Clear Street LLC and Needham & Company, LLC acting as placement agents; and CIBC World Markets acting as Strategic Advisor to the BSGM board of directors and management. Article content VANCOUVER, British Columbia & LOS ANGELES — BioSig Technologies, Inc. ('BioSig' or the 'Company'), which recently merged with Streamex Exchange Corporation ('Streamex') (Nasdaq: BSGM), announced today that the Company has entered into definitive agreements with a leading institutional investor for up to US$1.1 billion in growth financing, positioning the Company to become one of Nasdaq's largest public holders of gold bullion. This transaction positions the Company to capitalize on its goal of reshaping the future of global finance by beginning to bring the approx. $142 trillion commodities market on chain through real world asset tokenization. Article content Streamex & BioSig signed a definitive agreement for the sale of US$100,000,000 in senior secured convertible debentures and a US$1,000,000,000 Equity Line of Credit. The debentures have a maturity date of 24 months after issuance, accrue interest at 4% per annum, which will increase to 18% per annum upon the occurrence of an event of default, until such event of default is cured. The debentures will be purchased at a purchase price of 96% of their principal amounts. The debentures are convertible into shares of the Company's common stock, and the Company and certain of its subsidiaries are granting a first priority lien on and security interest in some of their respective assets as security for the Company's obligations under the debentures. Under the equity line of credit, the Company has the right, but not the obligation, to sell common stock to the investor for up to $1,000,000,000 over 36 months. The Company has agreed to file a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission to register the shares of common stock that are issuable upon conversion of the debentures and that may be sold under the equity line of credit (the 'Resale Registration Statement'). Article content The offering of US$75 million in senior secured convertible debentures and the equity line of credit is expected to close on or about October 7, 2025, subject to obtaining certain approvals of the Company's shareholders as required by Nasdaq listing rules, and to other customary closing conditions. The remaining US$25 million in senior secured convertible debentures is expected to close subject to obtaining certain closing conditions, including the effectiveness of the Resale Registration Statement. The Company believes that this transaction will secure its position as a gold treasury company and anticipates a continued investment in RWA blockchain technology. The Company looks ahead to securing substantial financial flexibility and seizing opportunities within its core markets. Article content Cantor Fitzgerald & Co., and Clear Street LLC acted as co-lead placement agents, with Needham & Company, LLC acting as co-placement agents (collectively, the 'Placement Agents'). CIBC World Markets acted as financial advisor to the BioSig board of directors and management. Sichenzia Ross Ference Carmel LLP is serving as legal counsel to the Company. Reed Smith LLP is serving as legal counsel to the Placement Agents. Article content BioSig CEO and Streamex Co-Founder Henry McPhie, says, 'This financing marks a pivotal moment not only for Streamex and BioSig, but for the evolution of global financial markets. By combining the value of physical gold with the innovation of blockchain, we are building a company grounded in what we believe to be the world's most trusted store of value while enabling a scalable, high-return business model through tokenization. Our mission is to unlock liquidity, transparency, and accessibility across the $142 trillion commodities market, and this milestone is just the beginning.' Article content Co-Founder of Streamex and Chairman of BioSig, Morgan Lekstrom added, 'The on-chain integration of gold and commodities represents a transformative evolution in global finance. While many treasury models exist, the approach pioneered by Streamex and BioSig combining physical gold with a scalable, revenue-generating tokenization platform introduces an entirely new value proposition for token holders. This is a landmark innovation, and we are committed to demonstrating to the market and our shareholders the full potential of this platform to redefine how real-world assets are accessed, valued, and monetized.' Article content Streamex believes RWA tokenization, and gold tokenization especially, will be more important than Bitcoin, driven by positive gold price outlook and anticipated rapid adoption of tokenization of RWAs by traditional financial institutions. Daily trading volume in gold bullion is $233 billion, 4.5 times greater than the $55 billion daily trading volume of Bitcoin, according to the World Gold Council, and the total market for gold is over 11x larger. The total addressable market (TAM) for RWA tokenization is projected to reach $16 trillion by 2030, according to global consulting firm Boston Consulting Group and ADDX, the digital exchange for private markets. Streamex is uniquely positioned as a first mover in the commodities and $22 trillion gold market. Article content The Company intends to hold significant quantities of gold bullion, secured through allocated vaulting with a top-tier bullion bank, with denominating the majority of its balance sheet in vaulted physical gold rather than fiat currency. Streamex believes that combining gold holdings with its Solana blockchain-enabled tokenization technology will support a scalable recurring revenue model and drive attractive returns. The Company's integrated technology platform and gold-backed balance sheet are expected to position it strongly to fund and issue a variety of gold-related tokens. These tokens aim to provide efficient, low-cost access to gold investments while also supporting gold-related financing structures, offering the potential for returns that outperform traditional bullion holdings. Article content Strategic Advisor and mining financier Frank Giustra stated, 'We believe gold is the ultimate hedge against financial, economic, monetary, and geopolitical risks. Its recent performance reflects the current state of the world across these dimensions, and by all accounts, it still has significant potential for growth. We think this gold bull market has only just begun.' Article content Strategic Advisor and mining entrepreneur Sean Roosen added, 'I truly believe Streamex is the next evolution in mining finance, like royalty/streaming companies and ETFs in the past, but with greater reach. It opens a new channel for funding and investor access to commodity and mining assets, using modern tools to solve old problems, attracting capital, increasing transparency, and supporting project development. Built by a team with deep industry experience, Streamex will be a game-changer for how mining connects with the next generation of investors. DeSantis signs $1.6 billion tax-cut package, eliminates commercial-lease tax and boosts sales-tax holidays

Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed a $1.6 billion tax-cut package that is dominated by eliminating a commercial-lease tax and providing sales-tax breaks on back-to-school items, hurricane-preparedness supplies and guns and ammo. Starting Tuesday, the package (HB 7031) will provide permanent sales-tax exemptions on hurricane-preparedness supplies such as batteries, portable generators and tarps. Also, it will offer permanent exemptions on certain purchases related to outdoor activities, such as life jackets, bicycle helmets, sunscreen and insect repellent. Also on Tuesday, sales taxes will disappear on admissions to state parks, tickets for NASCAR Cup Series Championship Races at the Homestead-Miami Speedway and on the sale of gold, silver, and platinum bullion when the transaction is under $500. The state already provides an exemption on such gold and other precious-metal sales when the price is over $500. Annual tax holidays for school supplies and outdoor equipment The package, passed June 16 by the Legislature, also includes an annual back-to-school tax "holiday" that will last throughout August. In the past, lawmakers have approved such holidays of varying lengths and at different times; the new package will make them happen each August, with shoppers able to avoid paying sales taxes on such things as clothes and school supplies. In addition, the Republican-controlled Legislature and DeSantis approved a tax holiday that will run from Sept. 8 through Dec. 31 on hunting, fishing and camping supplies, including guns and ammo. Business lobbyists long called for eliminating the 2 percent commercial-lease tax. The elimination, which will take effect Oct. 1, is projected to reduce state and local revenue during the upcoming fiscal year by $1.146 billion. Bill Herrle, executive director of the National Federation of Independent Business in Florida, called the elimination "a culmination of a 10-year effort." "By eliminating this tax, small businesses who rent or lease properties will see immediate economic relief," Herrle said in a statement. The overall package will provide an estimated $1.6 billion in tax cuts during the first year, with the recurring effect of the cuts in later years totaling nearly $2 billion, according to a legislative staff analysis. Senate spokeswoman Katie Betta said the impact on state general revenue, a key issue for lawmakers, will be about $1.3 billion. The school-tax holiday accounts for $217 million of the package in the first year. Under it, shoppers will be able to avoid paying sales taxes on clothes, shoes and backpacks that cost $100 or less, personal computers at $1,500 or less, school supplies at $50 or less and learning aids at $30 or less. The hunting, fishing and camping tax holiday is projected to result in $44.8 million savings for shoppers. In addition to applying to guns and ammo, it will provide sales-tax exemptions on such things as bows, arrows, rods and reels that cost $75 or less, tents that cost $200 or less, sleeping bags and camping stoves. Other aspects of the package include expanding the allowed use of tourist-development taxes by local governments to pay for beach lifeguards and for facilities in certain "fiscally constrained" rural counties and repealing an aviation fuel tax. DeSantis signed the tax-cut package as he also approved a new state budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, which will start Tuesday.

Charlotte Spencer shares personal link to Brink's-Mat scandal from BBC's The Gold

The enigma surrounding the infamous Brink's-Mat robbery may have been partially unravelled in BBC One's first series of The Gold, but there's still more beneath the surface to uncover. Hugh Bonneville and Charlotte Spencer are back on the case as London detectives in the gripping second series of the drama, which draws inspiration from the 1983 heist where a staggering £26 million in gold bullion was nicked from a Heathrow warehouse. Though Micky McAvoy's crew were nabbed for the heist in the initial series, they only ever recovered half of the lost loot. Charlotte, who portrays Detective Jennings, shared her insights with fans curious about the need for a sequel: "A lot of people have said, 'Oh my God, why is there a second series?'" she said. "A lot of people don't realise that they actually only found half of the gold." READ MORE: ITV Coronation Street icons' return 'sealed' and it's good news for Kevin Webster READ MORE: Coronation Street fans all say same thing as Eileen Grimshaw's exit sparks complaints Discussing the depth of the storyline, Charlotte hinted, "There's a whole other half – a whole other story. There are many stories that happen from this and I think people are going to be amazed at just how far it spreads and how much this web keeps growing." Not just on-screen, but also in real life, Charlotte has a personal connection to the notorious heist through her father, who knew Neil Murphy – one of the cops digging into the case. Talking about her dad's surprising revelation when he came across the script, Charlotte confessed, "It was such a passing comment that I just thought it was amazing – and you tend to find that a lot of people knew people involved in whatever way." "My dad hasn't spoken to that man for years but it's very rare that you get any kind of connection to a real story. For me, that was like, 'Wow – this was really ingrained in British culture.'" Even though it's been over two years since filming the first series, Charlotte, 33, effortlessly slipped back into her role as the collected and unwavering Nicki Jennings who remains on the straight and narrow despite her family's dodgy dealings. "This is the second time that I've done a series where my character has come back and there's just a really lovely feeling of going in and knowing the character," she reminisced. "There's none of this panic about, 'Have I found her?' because I know where she is now. It's really lovely." Already boasting several convictions as notches on her belt, Nicki no longer needs to impress her superior Brian Boyce – portrayed by Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville. "We find her a bit more solidified in where she is now. She's already proved herself and she is a good detective," Charlotte expressed. "She's getting her head down and concentrating on finding these people." The new series ushers in fresh faces like Malpractice's Tom Hughes, Criminal Record's Stephen Campbell Moore, Cheaters' Joshua McGuire and The Witcher's Lorna Brown to spice up the drama. Viewers can also get excited for Jack Lowden and Tom Cullen to return as the notorious criminal gold dealers Kenneth Noye and John Palmer. However, when the cameras stopped rolling on The Gold, Charlotte and her fellow actors swapped the gritty crime scenes for some cheeky sunshine, chilling out on location in sunny Tenerife. "It was so wholesome – a load of us would go out for dinner together and some people have young children so brought them out," she reveals. Charlotte, gearing up for intense scenes, would tap into the mindset of Jennings by listening to a custom-made playlist - a technique she employs for every role. "I make the playlist and it might be really random stuff – whatever gets me into that mood for some reason or what I think they'd listen to. I listen to that on set and it gets me in the headspace," she discloses. "There was a lot of 1980s stuff – David Bowie and Queen's Under Pressure... even things like the Beatles that maybe she would have listened to with her dad growing up." Discussing the prospects of The Gold returning for another series, Charlotte remarks, "The story finishes after this otherwise we'd be in the realms of fiction, so this is the last series but I think that's right. "I'll miss the fact that she genuinely wants to do good and there are people like that out there. There are police officers and all sorts and we don't see enough of them. Wholly good people who can make mistakes but the drive is for justice." Watch the premiere of The Gold tonight at 9pm on BBC One and catch-up on BBC iPlayer.
