Keskine IPL Hair Removal Handset review: how I removed stubborn hairs in just FOUR weeks

SUMMER is fully upon us, bringing with it holidays abroad, trips to the beach, dips in the pool – and, of course, bare legs. I've grappled with various razors, at-home waxing kits and painful trips to the salon for years, which only leave me dreading the next time my leg hair is ripped from the root, before it grows back and I have to endure it all over again. 5 Keskine IPL Hair Removal Handset, £299 £159.20 with code THESUN20 That was until I decided to take the plunge, listen to my mates, and join the at-home IPL brigade. Instead of spending hundreds (thousands in the long run) on salon hair removal, I opted to try an at-home hair removal solution that would last — a Keskine IPL Hair Removal Handset. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses a combination of targeted light and heat that is absorbed by the melanin found in hair follicles, essentially disabling and damaging them, which, in turn, stops the hair from growing back. The highly rated Keskine handset boasts an impressive 4.9-star rating from almost 4,000 reviews, and one of its most notable features is the built-in ice-cooling technology, setting it apart from competitors. This promises to soothe the skin and alleviate the biggest complaint people have about hair removal: pain. So, I put the Keskine IPL Hair Removal Handset to the test for six weeks to see what results I could achieve while the sun is still shining. Pros Cons It can feel like a big cash injection Have to remain consistent with your sessions Slightly noisy (although worth it for the cooling option) Rating: 8/10 How I tested the Keskine IPL Hair Removal Handset 5 Keskine IPL Hair Removal Handset, £299 £159.20 with code THESUN20 Keskine promises visible results within one to four weeks, with optimal results appearing between six and twelve weeks. I decided to track the effects on my hair over six weeks, assessing every week.. As part of the Sun Shopping team, I've tested a range of beauty tech, including the best LED face masks, the best Dyson dupes, and more, so I'm well-versed in what makes a product worth your pennies, even if it's at the higher end of the price spectrum. I used the product the recommended number of times: up to three times a week for the first month and then twice a week for weeks four to six. For some context, I have naturally fair and soft hair on my head, but my leg and armpit hair is thick and stubborn after years of shaving abuse, so my main goal was to see if the IPL would thin the hairs out before removing them completely. How much is the Keskine IPL? The product usually cashes in at £299, but it's currently on sale on the Keskine site for just £199. Better yet, Keskine is running an exclusive deal which gives Sun readers 20% off with the code THESUN20, bringing the total down to just £159. Who's it best for? The device works best on fairer skin tones and darker hair types and is ideal for anyone looking to save money in the long run on hair removal. What we loved: How easy it was to use, the cooling function and the five different settings available, which adjust to certain areas of the body. What we didn't: The device isn't suitable for all skin colours and hair types, and the results can vary depending on personal factors. Keskine IPL Hair Removal Handset review: The Nitty Gritty First impressions I won't lie to you, I often find myself sceptical about any at-home treatment that imitates salon visits, such as laser hair removal or at-home LED facial treatments. 5 However, always open to having my opinion changed, I unboxed the Keskine to discover a very easy-to-use handheld IPL, which came with a razor and a pair of protective sunglasses. The device itself is extremely lightweight and compact, with a lovely white and rose gold colour scheme. Its small size means you can take it on holiday with you, ensuring you never have to miss a session. Setting it up proved to be an easy task. All you need to do is clean your chosen treatment area and shave off any hair using the razor provided, before patting the area completely dry. Once you've connected the power cord to the adapter and plugged it into a power outlet, all you need to do is turn it on and choose one of the five built-in smart modes. Don't be alarmed by the loud whirring noise that comes from the device; that's just an indication that the cooling capabilities are working. You can select which part of your body you will be targeting with the IPL — face, armpit, body, bikini or beauty. Keskine IPL Hair Removal Handset, £299 £159.20 with code THESUN20 Although it'll make you look like a member of the Blues Brothers every time you use it, you will need to wear the protective sunglasses provided to shield your eyes from the effects of the light. Does it deliver? My hair has definitely become much finer and completely disappeared in places since I started using the Keskine. When speaking to friends who go for professional laser removal treatments in a salon, our results were very similar at the six-week mark. I will say that this product is best suited if you already have body hair on the finer side and definitely on the darker side. As per the Keskine colour chart, the tool is ineffective on darker skin tones and lighter hair types. 5 I found the best results were on intimate areas and my armpits, where I saw a massive improvement on darker, coarser hair. The product is very simple to use, and the cooling sensation that Keskine offers is a standout feature, contributing to a pain-free experience. The five adjustment levels are also a nice touch to reduce the pain in more sensitive areas. How much is the Keskine IPL? One thing that always used to put me off IPLs and at-home treatments was the hefty price tag that often accompanies them. However, when you compare the cost of the Keskine – usually £299 but currently on sale for £199.99 (or just £159.20 with exclusive code THESUN20) — to just one session at a popular high street therapy clinic, it suddenly feels worthwhile, especially with very similar results on offer. When compared to other IPLs, such as Braun or Philips, which offer the same level of settings and features, the Keskine IPL stands out financially, making it well worth the investment. Where to buy the Keskine IPL? The IPL can be purchased directly from the Keskine site, which often runs offers. Additionally, Keskine have provided an exclusive 20% discount code for Sun readers, bringing the price down even further to £159.20; however, you may have to act fast as the code is only valid until July 31st at midnight! There are also sign-up offers that allow 10% off across the site on your first order, as well as Clearpay being available as a payment plan, along with fast, free tracked shipping. The 10 best bikini trimmers, according to dermatologists

If you're looking to upgrade your grooming routine, a bikini trimmer can make all difference, while saving you the pain of waxing and laser hair removal. It can also be a more cost-effective method, since you cut down on repurchasing plastic razors. But electric trimmers can be harder to shop for, since there are a few more features to consider as you're searching. We spoke to dermatologists to find electric trimmers they recommend for a clean shave of your bikini area. On top of that, we shared some of our own picks and read through product reviews of models from top brands to find even more bikini trimmer options. We're breaking down everything you need to know about adding a bikini trimmer to your routine. Clio Palmperfect Electric Bikini Trimmer "This compact, cordless trimmer is ideal for travel and quick touch-ups," Dr. Marisa Garshick, a board-certified dermatologist at MDCS Dermatology, said. The dual-sided trimmer comes with a foil shaver head, which Garshick said makes it easy to shape and smooth sensitive areas without irritation. She also notes the ceramic blades make it a gentle and versatile option. Remington Smooth and Silky Body and Bikini Kit This kit comes with not only a trimmer for shaving but attachments for detailed grooming and exfoliating for a whole body care routine. "It's a solid pick for those looking for a full-body grooming solution on a budget, though [it's] best used on dry skin," Garshick said. It's also cordless, battery-powered and easy to travel with. Philips Beauty Essential Bikini Trimmer 2000 Isfahan Chambers-Harris, a certified trichologist with a doctorate in biomedical sciences and founder of Alodia, likes this trimmer because it's totally cordless. It's battery-operated so you don't need to worry about charging it either. It's a great option for traveling and easy to store when you're not using it. Meridian The Original Trimmer Beauty editor Sophie Shaw shopped this trimmer after it went viral on social media and was quickly won over. She likes that it's easy to use for any area of your body and can be used for both wet and dry shaving. Shaw hasn't noticed any razor burn in the two years she's been using it. She also said that she rarely needs to charge it, which makes it even more convenient. Panasonic Bikini Trimmer and Shaver Chambers-Harris likes this trimmer because it's adjustable, so it can easily fit your needs. It comes with four attachment heads so you can get a clean shave or just a trim. You can also use the shaver wet or dry, making it a versatile tool in your grooming routine. Olov Bikini Trimmer This electric trimmer is designed with ceramic blades that are gentle on the skin. When you're not using it, you can charge it in the included stand until the next time you need it. It's listed as waterproof too, and can be used in the shower. It comes in eight different colors if you want to find something more fun than other standard shavers. Meridian The Slimmer Trimmer The Meridian the Original Trimmer we listed above is designed for overall body grooming, while the Slimmer Trimmer was designed specifically for bikini area grooming. Shaw also tested this one and thinks it's great if you're looking for a more travel-friendly trimmer. It features a small LED spotlight for clear vision while you're shaving, and it has the same waterproof design as the Original Trimmer. Gillette Venus Intimate Grooming Electric Razor The head of this electric razor opens up for easy cleaning after shaving, and it's waterproof and easy to pack if you're heading on a vacation. It comes with one trimmer head and one comb attachment to easily glide through thick hair. Philips Norelco OneBlade Intimate Pubic Groomer Philips Norelco makes some of our editors' favorite men's shavers. This rechargeable trimmer can be used by anyone. It's slim, easy to hold and comes with a body comb attachment to make shaving easier. It's IPX7 rated, which makes it a waterproof option for shaving in the shower, though you can use it dry as well. Pritech Bikini Trimmer Pritech's trimmer has over 11,000 reviews on Amazon. It's another rechargeable option that's IPX6 waterproof rated, meaning you can easily use it in the shower, but you can also use it to dry shave. Plus, the trimmer comes with a styling comb, a cleaning brush and four protective attachments for different hair lengths. A bikini trimmer is designed to do the same thing as a women's razor and can get you just as clean of a shave. But, there's a bit more to know before using a bikini trimmer compared to your standard razor. 'Start by cleaning the skin — that helps prevent bacteria from getting into any small nicks or bumps. Then make sure your trimmer is clean,' said Dr. Raman Madan, dermatologist director of cosmetic dermatology at Northwell Health in New York. 'Trim in the direction of hair growth, not against it. After you're done, rinse the area with cool water and moisturize. And don't forget to clean the trimmer afterward so it's ready for next time.' Dr. Purvisha Patel, a board-certified dermatologist at Advanced Dermatology & Skin Cancer Associates and founder of Visha Skincare, notes that you'll want to make sure any razor used on the bikini area is sharp and preferably has more than one blade. This increases the chance of getting a clean shave with the fewest passes of the trimmer. Shopping for a trimmer over regular razors can feel intimidating, but it can be a simple process once you know what you're looking for. You'll want to note that there are rechargeable and battery-powered options, and having something cordless makes it easy to use. 'It really depends on what you care about most. But in general, you want something with stainless steel blades, because that holds up better to cleaning and rubbing alcohol,' Madan said. He also recommends looking for something that's waterproof so you can use it in the shower. A trimmer that can be used both wet or dry can make it easier for you to shave your bikini area as part of your regular routine. Madan also suggests looking for a trimmer with adjustable length settings that give you more control. That way, you can trim hair to your preferences and comfort levels. The following FAQs have been answered by dermatologist Dr. Raman Madan and Laura Schubert, the cofounder and CEO of Fur. Is using a bikini trimmer better than shaving? Is using a bikini trimmer better than shaving? The opinions on this are mixed, but overall, it comes down to personal preference. 'It kind of depends on what you're looking for. Bikini trimmers don't go as close to the skin, which actually helps prevent irritation and those pesky ingrown hairs,' Madan said. 'Shaving, on the other hand, gives you that really smooth finish, but you're more likely to end up with bumps or irritation afterward. So, it's a bit of a trade-off.' 'No grooming routine is 'better' than any other, per se, but trimming is a great option for people who deal with extreme skin sensitivity,' Schubert said. Trimming and shaving can be more gentle than waxing, sugaring or laser hair removal. How do you prevent ingrown hairs when using a bikini trimmer? How do you prevent ingrown hairs when using a bikini trimmer? Ingrown hairs occur when the hair follicle has been forced to grow inward due to shaving or another irritant on the skin. The best way to prevent ingrown hairs, according to the dermatologists we spoke with, is to make sure you're shaving in the same direction your hair grows. 'Going against it — that's when you run into trouble,' Madan said. 'It can push the hair under the skin, and it doesn't grow out properly, which leads to ingrowns.' He recommends going with the grain and taking your time to ensure a smooth shave. If you do end up with razor bumps, there are ways to get rid of them. Making sure the area has been cleaned and exfoliated ahead of shaving, and using a shaving cream, can help reduce pores from clogging with dead skin cells. How do you clean a bikini trimmer? How do you clean a bikini trimmer? Keeping your bikini trimmer clean can help prevent hair and dead skin buildup on your razor. 'The best thing to do is clean off any hair first — you can rinse the head if it's waterproof,' Madan said. 'Then I usually recommend sterilizing it with rubbing alcohol. Just let it dry out after that. And if you have clipper oil, it's a good idea to use a drop or two to keep the blades from rusting. That's going to help the trimmer last longer.' If you feel like your trimmer is getting dull or has rusted, it's smart to replace it with a new blade. You want to make sure you're not using a dirty razor blade, especially one with rust, that can cause small infections if you cut yourself shaving. What should you put on your skin after using a bikini trimmer? What should you put on your skin after using a bikini trimmer? Madan said that if your skin feels irritated after trimming, you can use a light hydrocortisone cream. If you don't have that on hand, you can use a gentle moisturizer. He recommends something like CeraVe or Cetaphil. 'You want to keep your skin calm and hydrated,' he said. 'Cool-water rinsing also helps right after trimming.' With the Ulike IPL Hair Removal Device, I'm Dolphin-Smooth for Summer

The Ulike hair removal device has a lot going for it: a significantly lower price point than in-salon treatments, a sleek handheld design, and the rare promise of painless at-home hair removal. For skeptics of over-the-counter beauty tech, it's true, these at-home devices may not rival professional-grade machines in sheer power. But what Ulike's IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) tool may lack in strength, it more than makes up for in user-friendly design and surprisingly effective results in the pursuit of becoming hair-free. And best of all, it's on sale this Prime Day for $259 (about 35% off)—the same amount wouldn't even get you two in-salon laser hair removal appointments, while this one time splurge will have you set for months. Admittedly, I had no idea there was a distinction between IPL hair removal and traditional laser hair removal. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Gratch breaks it down: IPL uses a broad spectrum of wavelengths, typically between 500 and 1,200 nanometers, to target melanin in the hair shaft, ultimately disabling the follicle and slowing regrowth. 'It's a popular, non-invasive technology used for long-term hair reduction,' Leona Liu, Ulike's general manager, tells Vogue. 'Unlike shaving or waxing, IPL gradually reduces hair growth over time.' While both IPL and laser treatments harness light to zap hair at the root, Liu notes one key difference. 'Laser hair removal emits a single, concentrated wavelength, while IPL uses a broad spectrum that covers larger areas faster. It's also pain-free—and much more affordable,' she says. As someone with thick—I mean, really thick—dark hair, I'm no stranger to laser hair removal being less about an aesthetic choice and more about comfort (so if you like to go au natural with your body hair—more power to you!). Shaving or waxing unwanted hair inevitably led to painful ingrowns, no matter how diligent I was with proper exfoliation or post-care. Even embracing an all-natural approach didn't help either—yes, I tested the theory, by abandoning shaving all together during lockdown (throwback to 2020!). With high hopes, I tested out Ulike's latest hair removal innovation so you don't have to—though I'm certain you'll be intrigued to get your very own device ASAP. Convenience, comfort, and smoother skin on your own schedule? That's the beauty of this handheld, hair removing wonder—and this beauty writer argues it's totally worth it. Why we like it: The Ulike is one of the most popular IPL hair removal device options, boasting thousands of five-star reviews on Amazon. Over the years, there have been several iterations, but this newest version is particularly gentle on sensitive skin, making it suitable for most skin types. The device offers a ice cooling technology to prevent against a burning sensation while use. Plus, you can pick your intensity level, with five different options, allowing you to choose the one that works best for you, although the brand recommends starting with level one. I Tried This At-Home Laser Hair Removal Device, And Here Are My Thoughts

It definitely has its perks, and the price is a major one. Everybody has their own journey with body hair and removal. I'm personally a long-time waxer, plucker, and shaver. While I don't mind shaving my legs and underarms, I have some hair I'd prefer wasn't taking up real estate on my face, so I resort to waxing it every month or month and a half. But let's be real. Waxing hurts, and going to get laser hair removal at a spa felt like it was way out of my budget. As a self-appointed DIY beauty queen, I decided I could probably take matters into my own hands, so I dove headfirst into trying the Ulike Air 3 IPL Hair Removal Device to get rid of my unwanted body hair at home, all by myself. I've been using it for the past month and a half, and it has definitely surprised me with how easy it is to use and how quickly I saw results. Amazon (This link opens in a new tab) Ulike | Air 3 IPL Hair Removal Device (This link opens in a new tab) This Ulike laser hair removal device will help you zap away any unwanted body hair painlessly, within seconds. Each flash of light from the laser forces your hair follicle to become dormant, reducing the speed at which it grows back in. It also has a built-in ice cooling function, which keeps irritation at bay. It's important to note that laser hair removal only works on certain hair colours and skin tones, so make sure you know your skin and hair are compatible with the device before purchasing. Buy on Amazon (This link opens in a new tab) My First Impression of The Ulike Laser Hair Removal Device When I first unboxed the device, I immediately noticed how luxurious it felt. It was easy to figure out how all the pieces plugged into each other, and it is comfortable to hold. It also came with a mini razor to shave the area you want to treat before using the laser, a pair of foldable sunglasses to wear during the treatment, as well as a cloth bag to keep everything in between uses. I knew that the Ulike Air 3 IPL Hair Removal Device wasn't going to be as strong of a zap as the lasers you would be treated with in a spa, but I still wanted to be very safe while using it to avoid any burns, rashes, or irritation. I read all of the instructions and learned that I would need to gradually work my way up the three zap levels. I was also advised not to expose the skin I was treating to the sun during treatment, or use the laser over moles, or tattoos (both of which I have plenty of on my arms and legs). With this new knowledge, I knew I couldn't treat my legs, arms, or armpits after summer days by the pool, so for the sake of this experiment, I decided to treat my facial hair. I felt comfortable trying this area as I wear SPF daily, and take extra precautions if I'm in direct sun wearing a hat or sitting, so I knew I would be able to keep that area safe while I was still actively treating it. My First Few Sessions Bianca Guzzo As per the instruction manual, I was to do three to four treatments per week for the first three weeks of using the laser, adding a single treatment a week after that for the next month or so. I used the included razor to shave the areas I wanted to treat, plugged the machine in, popped the sunglasses on, and got to zapping. As I said, I was playing it safe, so I started with the lowest setting. As soon as you're holding the laser flush to your skin, and indicator light goes off, signalling that it's safe to use. With a few zaps, my first session was over with no pain at all, which did confuse me a little, but I definitely felt the cooling effect. After about a week of using it on the lowest setting and not seeing any results, I turned it up to the middle setting and still didn't feel much. Eventually, I made it to the strongest setting, which felt like a very light shock and only lasted a fraction of a second. Doing the treatment wasn't uncomfortable at all, and I loved that I didn't have to make any expensive appointments. After I had worked my way up to this strongest setting, I continued to use it for every single treatment. Where We Are Five Weeks In I've stuck to the schedule, except for missing a single treatment during a weekend away, and I can definitely see the results. Point blank, it's not as strong as a hair removal laser in a spa, so the results won't be as noticeable or fast. However, I did see the hair in areas, like my upper lip, visibly decrease within weeks, and hasn't really grown back aside from a couple of strands I've been able to pluck on the fly. Bianca Guzzo In areas where my hair is a little coarser and thicker, like my sideburns and chin, the hair growth has slowed down but still grows back—albeit a little thinner—so I think these areas will need a bit more time to give me the desired results. Bianca Guzzo All in all, I think it's a great alternative to going to a spa for a similar service, since the one-time cost of the machine is far less than I'd pay in total for all the sessions I'd need. Plus, I can use it anywhere on my body, excluding private areas and around my eyes, so if you're planning on treating most of your body like me, it's well worth its price. What other reviewers are saying With an average rating of 4.1 stars, most reviewers love the Ulike Air 3 IPL Hair Removal Device. One reviewer stated it's been a real game changer for body hair caused by PCOS, while others rave about how quick and painless the device is. One thing all the reviewers can agree on is that in order to see results, you have to have a bit of patience.
