Shooting at illegal Oakland nightclub leaves 1 dead

Oakland Police said that a person was shot and killed at an illegal nightclub early Sunday morning. The shooting happened around 3:45 a.m. at an illegal nightclub that was operating after hours, police said. Officers were alerted to the shooting by a ShotSpotter activation and responded to the 900 block of 85th Avenue. Police said they found one victim injured and that they were pronounced dead at the scene. Police said dozens of people at the nightclub were detained, and homicide detectives would be doing a follow-up investigation into what led to the shooting. Oakland police said the victim's identity would be released once next of kin were notified.

Damon Lamarr Johnson, 52, was the man who died while in police custody last week, the Portland Police Bureau said. The night of June 27, officers originally responded to a request for a welfare check on a man at his home in the 8500 block of North Argyle Way. 4 hit by car after 'large fight' in Northwest Portland early Friday The caller reported the man — later identified as Johnson — was allegedly 'acting in a concerning manner, flooding his apartment with water and hanging knives out of his apartment window,' police said. After arriving at the apartment, officers said they had to give Johnson CPR and requested aid from paramedics who had already been called to wait nearby. Johnson was then taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he later died. All three officers involved were placed on administrative leave. The circumstances leading up to Johnson's death have not been released at this time. Police probe suspicious death after man's body found at north Edmonton fire scene

Edmonton police said Sunday they're investigating after a man was found dead at the scene of an early morning fire in north Edmonton. Police said in a media release they were contacted by Edmonton Fire Rescue Services at 2:47 a.m. after firefighters found the man's body at the scene near 120 Avenue and 77 Street. Police are calling the death suspicious. Edmonton police homicide detectives have taken over the case. An autopsy is slated for Tuesday. Anyone with information about the death is asked to call police at 780-423-4567.
