iPhone 17 price hike just tipped for every model — here's what they could cost now
There are few things worse than rising prices, especially for expensive things like Apple's iPhones. But unfortunately, we might have to brace ourselves for a price hike on this year's iPhone 17 lineup. According to a new investor note from Jefferies analyst Edison Lee, all four iPhone 17 models are expected to go up in price by around $50 compared to the iPhone 16 series. So if you were planning to pick up an iPhone 17 of some sort, you may want to start saving some extra cash. Price iPhone 16 $799 iPhone 17 $849 (estimated) iPhone 16 Plus $899 iPhone 17 Air* $949 (estimated) iPhone 16 Pro $999 iPhone 17 Pro $1,049 (estimated) iPhone 16 Pro Max $1,199 iPhone 17 Pro Max $1,249(estimated Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra $1,299 Google Pixel 9 Pro XL $1,099 If this rumor proves true, it means that we may end up having to pay at least $849 for an iPhone 17, $1,049 for an iPhone 17 Pro and $1,249 for an iPhone 17 Pro Max. This is assuming they all have the same starting storage as the iPhone 16 series — 128GB for the standard and Pro models, and 256GB for the Pro Max. The iPhone 17 Air is something of a mystery, as this is the first time we've had a device of this particular kind. If the analyst note is taken at face value, it could be only marginally more expensive than the iPhone 16 Plus was. However, we've heard rumors that the new skinny phone could cost more than an iPhone 16 Pro Max. So we'll have to wait and see how that pans out. This isn't the first time we've heard rumors of a potential price hike, either. Back in May, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was considering raising prices this year. It's also not a huge surprise, considering there have been reports of possible price hikes for the past few iPhone releases — but so far the cost has stayed relatively static. In fact, the closest we got to a price hike was Apple scrapping the 128GB storage option on iPhone 15 Pro Max. So while Apple kept the cost of a 256GB model the same ($1,199), the cost of entry was still $100 higher than the previous year. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. A $50 price hike isn't a lot, but when you're already paying at least $799 for the latest smartphone, you don't want to have to pay more, regardless of how many upgrades the phone has or does not have. Still, if this rumor turns out to be true, iPhone users may be getting off lightly. Other phones haven't been so lucky, including the $1,299 Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra. So, as annoying as an iPhone price hike might be, the prospect of paying $1,249 for an iPhone 17 Pro Max still means it's cheaper than some of the alternatives. We won't likely find out for sure until the iPhone launch event, which is rumored to take place the week of September 8. In the meantime, you can keep up to date with all the latest news and rumors in our iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max hubs.

JPMorgan sees foldable iPhone quickly taking control of the sector
Multinational financial services company JPMorgan believes that the iPhone Fold will be a success. An internal research note that the company sent to its clients was viewed by MacRumors. The note says that the iPhone Fold will be introduced in September 2026 during the event that unveils the iPhone 18 line. The investment house says that despite the debut of the first ultra-thin iPhone (dubbed the iPhone 17 Air), the upcoming iPhone 17 series will not excite the phone-buying public. As a result, consumers' attention will quickly turn to the 2026 iPhone line, which JPMorgan says will include the first foldable iPhone dubbed the iPhone Fold . The report to JPMorgan's clients says that the book-style foldable will be priced at $1,999 and sales will be in the teens of millions by 2027. The foldable iPhone isn't expected to really take off until 2028, according to JPMorgan's analysts. That's when 45 million iPhone Folds are expected to be sold. Considering that the Bill of Materials for the device is rumored to be $759, Apple could be in a good position to coin some nice profits if the foldable iPhone is a success. JPMorgan sees Apple releasing a $1,999 foldable iPhone in 2026. | Image credit-Unknown Apple's entry into the foldable market will give that niche segment of the smartphone industry a shot in the arm, as many expected. This year, 19.8 million foldables are expected to be sold globally. The introduction of the foldable iPhone will not only take foldable devices into the mainstream, but having a foldable iPhone in the marketplace will result in a huge jump in foldable units sold, and the amount of revenue generated by the sector should soar. Yes, the iPhone name still means a lot in the smartphone industry. But beyond that, Apple is looking to improve the appeal of foldable phones by removing some of the major issues that keep consumers away from buying such a device. The number one reason why consumers don't buy foldables is the pricing, and this is one issue that I don't think Apple is so quick to fix. The second problem is the tendency of foldable displays to have a crease show up on the internal display. This is a problem that foldable manufacturers have been struggling to eliminate for a long time. Apple reportedly will ship a foldable with a crease-free display, or at the least, a crease that will not be so easily noticeable. The inner screen is expected to weigh in at 7.8 inches and will feature a sturdy, long-lasting hinge using "Liquid Metal." The external display is expected to weigh in at 5.5 inches. The iPhone Fold will sport a thin chassis and a titanium frame. Touch ID is expected to make its long-awaited return, replacing Face ID on the foldable iPhone . Apple has studied the foldable market for a long time. This is how the company operates. The late Steve Jobs didn't wake up one morning with the iPhone, its specs, design, and features all done. It was a multi-year project that started in 2004, three years before that glorious day when Jobs held aloft the device that would change the world. With the foldable iPhone , Apple did the same thing. It studied the competition, examined their weaknesses, and figured out where Apple could do things better. The crease is supposedly an example of how this works. Earlier in the process, Apple was said to have held back on developing a foldable iPhone because it was concerned that such a device could not be durable. Then, while testing a prototype foldable iPhone in 2024, the device, using a display sourced from Samsung, fell apart. Obviously, Apple is well past this point. It reverse-engineered competitors' models and figured out how to make a better mousetrap. It's the Apple way. And if JPMorgan is correct, sooner than you'd expect, Apple will be the leader in foldables worldwide, which JPMorgan calls a $65 billion opportunity for the company. iPhone 17 release date: how soon is it coming?
iPhone 17 series. | Image by Majin Bu If you are an Apple fan, you probably already know what time it is. Yep, we are getting closer to that moment of the year again – new iPhones incoming. The iPhone 17 series, including the base iPhone 17 , the new iPhone 17 Air and the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, is expected to drop this fall. Yep, if Apple sticks to its usual playbook, we already have a pretty good idea of when the big day is coming and if you are wondering exactly when that will be, you are in the right spot. Since the iPhone 7 in 2016, Apple's stuck to early September unveilings almost every year. The only time the Cupertino tech giant broke the rhythm was in 2020, during the height of the pandemic, when the iPhone 12 launch got split into two waves: first came the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro and a bit later, the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max. But aside from that, Apple's timing has been rock solid. So if the iPhone 17 gets unveiled on Sept 9 or 10, preorders would likely go live on Friday – either September 12 or 19, depending on which day the event happens. And if that happens, the phones should start shipping and landing in your hands the following Friday, most likely September 19 or September 26. How the iPhone 17 release compares to previous years To get a better idea of what to expect, I think it helps to look at how Apple has handled iPhone launches in recent years. So, here is a quick comparison to see how the iPhone 17 fits into the usual pattern. *probable dates The Pro models could look quite different this time. | Image credit – Majin Bu Short answer: most of them, yes. If we are talking about the main iPhone 17 lineup – including the regular iPhone 17 , the brand-new iPhone 17 Air , and the higher-end Pro and Pro Max models – they should all drop at the same time this September. So, yes, don't expect an iPhone 17 Plus this year. Apple is ditching the larger non-Pro model altogether and giving us something lighter and thinner instead. That's where the new Air model comes in. But there is one more model missing from the fall party: the iPhone 17e. This is expected to be the follow-up to the iPhone 16e, which already replaced the SE line as Apple's budget option. If you are eyeing an upgrade, you won't have to wait much longer. By early September, Apple will likely have the iPhone 17 lineup up for preorder and by late September, it should be in your hands. And with some pretty solid upgrades expected – like improved cameras on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, more RAM across the lineup, and hopefully (finally!) higher refresh rates on the regular models – not to mention the thinner and lighter Air version, the wait could actually be worth it. But even if you are not buying a new iPhone, September still brings something big: iOS 26. That stable version of the update is expected to roll out alongside the iPhone 17 launch and it includes the new Liquid Glass look. So, if your iPhone supports it – and if you've got anything from an iPhone 11 or newer, it does – you'll still get something fresh and fun to play with. iOS 26 Public Beta hands-on: Liquid Glass is back in the front seat So yeah, whether you are planning to upgrade, waiting to see what Apple brings to the table, or just watching from the sidelines, September is when it all goes down.
