Apple set to launch cheaper MacBook with iPhone 16 Pro's chip in 2026: Report
Apple is looking to accelerate sales of its MacBook lineup as it plans to bring a new affordable model to boost its numbers, according to a post by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. As per Kuo, Apple's new affordable MacBook is expected to enter mass production in late Q4 2025 or early Q1 2026. The upcoming laptop could feature a 13-inch display and is likely to be powered by the company's A18 Pro processor, which debuted in the iPhone 18 Pro series launched last year. The affordable MacBook could come in four colour variants: Silver, Blue, Pink, and Yellow. The Cupertino-based tech giant wants to return MacBook shipments to the COVID-19 peak of around 25 million units in 2026, compared to the 20 million units it is expected to ship in 2025. The new affordable MacBook, Kuo predicts, could account for 5-7 million units in 2026. Notably, if Kuo's prediction turns out to be true, the processor could be the only point of difference between the new affordable MacBook and the entry-level MacBook Air, which starts at $999 ( ₹ 99,900 in India). Unfortunately, the analyst does not give any indication of how much cheaper the new Apple offering could be compared to the current laptop range. Assuming the leak turns out to be accurate, we should have plenty of updates in the coming months regarding the pricing and other features of the new affordable MacBook. In a separate post, Kuo also noted that Apple is working on seven head-mounted devices, many of which are set to launch in 2027. The company is reportedly banking heavily on this category and has a significant competitive advantage thanks to robust hardware and ecosystem integration. However, the challenge for the tech giant will be developing an AI-powered operating system and software. One of the key devices that Apple is working on is a Meta Ray-Ban like smart glasses. These glasses are one of the major focus for company with expected shipments of around 3-5 million in 2027.

Apple's Liquid Glass design could be first step towards an all-glass iPhone
Apple is reportedly planning a major design overhaul for the iPhone, aiming to release a mostly glass model in time for the product's 20th anniversary in 2027. According to a report by MacRumors, citing Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple may start making gradual changes as early as next year, beginning with a smaller Dynamic Island on 2026 iPhone models. These changes would align with the company's broader visual shift, hinted at through the recently announced 'Liquid Glass' design language, which debuted with iOS 26 and other platform updates. Gurman has previously reported that Apple is working on a 'mostly glass, curved iPhone' featuring no display cutouts. While details remain limited, the new model is expected to incorporate advanced display technology that allows both the front-facing camera and Face ID sensors to sit beneath the screen. This shift could begin with the iPhone 18 Pro series in 2025. As reported earlier by The Information, Apple may implement under-display Face ID next year, with only a small hole in the display's top-left corner to accommodate the front camera. This change would eliminate the current pill-shaped Dynamic Island, significantly refining the front design. Backing these claims, a 9To5Mac report earlier this year pointed to an Apple patent focused on improving under-display camera technology. The patent describes a display with selectively removed subpixels to improve light transmission—especially of infrared (IR) light—critical for Face ID's functionality. Apple has reportedly faced challenges with IR transmission in past under-display camera attempts. In parallel with these efforts, Apple is also believed to be working on a foldable iPhone. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently stated that Apple has started finalising key specifications for the foldable device, which is expected to enter mass production in the second half of 2026. The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a book-style design with a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch cover screen. It is also expected to be extremely thin, measuring around 4.5mm when unfolded. Apple may incorporate its under-display sensor technology in the foldable model too. As anticipation builds, all eyes are on how the iPhone 18 Pro will balance cutting-edge innovation with the seamless user experience Apple is known for. iPhone 18 Pro series expected launch timeline In 2026, a significant display update is anticipated for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. iPhone 18 Pro expected specifications The tipster reveals the specifications of each device's display: the iPhone 18 Pro will have a 6.27-inch panel, while the larger 18 Pro Max will have a 6.86-inch OLED panel. These will be 1.5K resolution LTPO panels. Although the aforementioned seems fairly typical for the iPhone, the tipster also notes that Apple will employ HIAA technology for the selfie camera, pushing the underlying Face ID array beneath the display so that only the selfie camera is visible. The present Face ID solution, which Apple has concealed with a Dynamic Island feature that consists of a software bubble in the shape of a capsule that expands and contracts based on the job or Live Activities being displayed, is substantially different from this. For those who are unaware, Dynamic Island isn't actually an "island"; instead, it's made up of two camera cutouts, one oblong (for the Face ID system) and the other circular (for a selfie camera). The pixels between them are filled in by a black software layer of the display, giving the impression that the cutouts are neatly enclosed. Since Apple is reportedly moving to Hole-in-Active-Area or HIAA, the user will only be able to see the selfie camera; the Face ID mechanism will be concealed beneath the screen. Many will be relieved to see the black blob disappear, but it will be impressive to see how the Face ID system and its network of flood illuminators and cameras (which use infrared light) operate through the display screen. After that, it will be a premium or "Pro" function. It is unclear what will happen to Dynamic Island if this is the implementation that Apple moves forward with for its high-end Pro models next year since the Face ID system—which includes the selfie camera—will be a dot. Given that the hardware has shrunk and no longer needs the cover-up, Apple could certainly animate a phoney capsule-shaped blob around it, but it doesn't seem essential. Apple replaced the outdated U-shaped display notch on the top of its iPhone screens with a more contemporary capsule-shaped cavity, but this feature—which combines hardware and software—was not well accepted. With the release of the iPhone 15, the feature—which had previously only been available on its Pro variants—finally made its way onto the other iPhone models. According to a tipster, Apple's iPhone 18 Pro series will soon have a new function that could remove the Dynamic Island capsule when not in use, exposing a hole-punch cavity for the front camera that looks a lot like Android.
