eMalahleni organisations make a difference on Mandela Day
The community of eMalahleni got quite busy on Mandela Day, spreading love and Ubuntu all across the city to honour and carry on Nelson Mandela's legacy.
Biocross and Pathcare Laboratories staff dedicated their time to the children of New Life Orphanage in eMalahleni, where they donated school shoes, blankets, and baby accessories to the kids at the orphanage.
'As we reflect on Nelson Mandela's values of compassion, forgiveness, and service, our sole goal was to bring smiles to the children's faces,' Elizabeth Gumede said.
iZi Cash, on the other hand, spent 67 minutes of their time dishing out meals to the homeless at Highland Mews in the evening. By the end of their session, they reported having fed approximately 100 people.
The Mean Girls group, popularly known for their short dramas on TikTok, spent their day at Madressa Orphanage, where they donated sanitary towels, whereas Child Welfare SA in Mpumalanga, in partnership with Ngwete IT Solutions, donated baby bags filled with baby essentials to moms with newborns at Witbank Hospital.
'We donated 30 bags, and among the 30, were three set aside specially for the babies born on Mandela Day,' said Siphiwe Ndlovu, provincial manager of the Child Welfare.
Phola SAPS, in collaboration with Blue Mining Services and Ndzundza Sogutjhe Traditional House, also felt the need to be a part of the change that most residents of the city were partaking in.
They visited a family that experienced a significant loss from a fire crisis, donating groceries, school uniforms, and blankets.
All organisations agreed that it was a refreshing and fulfilling moment to take part in doing something positive for the community, through the little they could give.
'We all had so much fun, and seeing the difference we made through our little acts of kindness was more than fulfilling,' Elizabeth said.
