Toronto man arrested in stolen vehicle in northern Ont., charged with impaired
A 36-year-old man from Toronto who was already prohibited from driving has been arrested for impaired on Highway 144 in northern Ontario. The incident took place around 5 a.m. on June 6, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Friday. South Porcupine OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision in Hazen Township, north of Gogama. 'The investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen,' police said. Remains in custody The Toronto man has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, refusing to comply with a breathalyzer demand, driving while impaired by alcohol, three counts each of driving while prohibited under the criminal code and driving while suspended. The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 3 in Timmins.

Traffic tip leads to impaired driving charge
Police say a tip from the public about a potentially dangerous situation on the roads in Springwater Township led to impaired driving charges for a 33-year-old Ajax resident. Officers with the Huronia West OPP detachment received a traffic complaint late Wednesday evening involving a suspected impaired driver. They responded and found the vehicle on Horseshoe Valley Road West. Police say after speaking with the driver, they had reason to believe the individual's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired, which resulted in an arrest. The accused faces charges of operation while impaired and failing or refusing to comply with demand.

Mounties say impaired drivers caught doing burnouts in B.C. mall parking lot
A statement from the West Shore RCMP says officers responded to a report of two pickup trucks driving erratically and doing tire burnouts in a parking lot at 3005 Merchant Way in Langford. (Handout) Mounties on Vancouver Island say two 19-year-old impaired drivers were handed driving prohibitions and their vehicles were impounded after they were caught spinning their wheels in a shopping mall parking lot. A statement from the West Shore RCMP says officers responded to a report of two pickup trucks driving erratically and doing tire burnouts in a parking lot at 3005 Merchant Way in Langford. Police arrived shortly before midnight on Tuesday to find a grey Ford F350 and a red Dodge Ram still in the parking lot. 'Both drivers were exhibiting symptoms of alcohol impairment and were investigated for impaired driving,' the statement said. The Dodge Ram driver, identified as a 19-year-old man, was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his truck was impounded for 30 days. The Ford F350 driver, who police also identified as a 19-year-old man, was handed three-day immediate roadside prohibition and his truck was also impounded for 30 days, police said. Cpl. Mike Jacobson of the West Shore RCMP's traffic unit said officers were able to respond to the scene quickly due to the actions of the complainant who reported the incident 'as it was unfolding.' 'Road safety is a priority for West Shore RCMP,' Jacobsen added. 'If you see dangerous driving behaviour and/or suspect impaired driving, please report it to police right away.'

Open liquor on boat nets man suspension on road

(Source: OPP) Hosting compliance for lifejackets and safety equipment on boats, the Collingwood & Blue Mountains Ontario Provincial Police Marine Unit pulled over a personal watercraft Monday at 3:30 p.m. When using a personal watercraft or Jet-ski-type boat on the Nottawasaga River in Wasaga Beach, police spotted open liquor onboard. The 37-year-old man was arrested and taken to the station where his impairment level was determined to be twice the legal limit. The Wasaga Beach man was charged with: Adult operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) Adult operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs Adult having care or control of a boat underway with open container of liquor The Wasaga Beach man is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on July 15 to answer to the charges. Boat operators who are charged with impaired driving offences get an immediate 90-day driver's license suspension as well.
