Woman seriously injured after being struck by lorry as Gardai close busy road

A woman has been seriously injured after she was struck by a lorry on a busy road in Co Wexford. The road traffic collision occurred on the Main Street in Gorey at approximately 11 am on Friday. Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene following reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a lorry. The woman received medical assistance at the scene before being rushed by ambulance to hospital, where her condition is understood to be serious. The road has been closed by Gardaí to allow for Forensic Collision Investigators to carry out a technical examination of the scene and local diversions are in place. Motorists have been urged to keep the area clear to allow emergency services to respond. The road is expected to remain closed for a number of hours and drivers have been told to expect long delays. Gorey councillor Joe Sullivan said the the collision has caused shock among locals as he wished the woman a "speedy recovery". "Unfortunately an incident took place at the Main Street in Gorey this morning where a lady was knocked down and she has been removed from the scene," he told South East Radio. "It is an unfortunate situation that a person should be injured in these circumstances, a busy Friday morning on the Main Street, and I wish that the person injured would make a speedy recovery." Two arrested over alleged false imprisonment of woman as gardai issue appeal

Two people have been arrested following an alleged incident of false imprisonment involving a woman in Co Kildare. The incident occurred in the Castletown area of Celbridge at approximately 10.10pm on Monday evening. Following patrols carried out by Gardaí from Kildare North Community Engagement and DMR South Crime Tallaght, two people were arrested in Tallaght, Dublin 24, in relation to this incident within 90 minutes of Gardaí first being alerted. A woman and a man, both aged in their 30s, are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the eastern region. The scene has been preserved for technical examination. Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses to this incident to come forward. "Anyone with any information is asked to contact Leixlip Garda Station on (01) 6667800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station," a garda spokesperson said in a statement. Cannabis worth €2m seized during major garda raid in Dublin

A large quantity of suspected herbal cannabis was seized during a major garda operation in Co Dublin. The discovery came as part of an intelligence led operation in the Dublin 10 area carried out by Gardaí from Ballyfermot Garda Station, Clondalkin Community Engagement Area, and Detective Gardaí from Serious Crime South. Gardai announced that suspected cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €2 million was seized during the course of a search of a business premises in Ballyfermot on Saturday (June 21). The drugs seized during the operation are now subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing, a garda spokesperson said in a statement. This seizure forms part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on July 2, 2021. The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle, and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels—international, national, and local—involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale, and supply of controlled drugs. Under Operation Tara, individuals and groups involved in the drug trade will be the target of enforcement activity based on intelligence and the latest crime trends. Motorcyclist, 25, killed in horror two-vehicle crash as witness appeal issued

A motorcyclist died following an early morning road traffic collision in Co Armagh. The two-vehicle collision occurred in the Tandragee area of Craigavon shortly after 8am on Thursday. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) received and responded to a report of a collision involving a motorcycle and a Renault Scenic car at Mullahead Road at around 8.13am. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service dispatched three emergency ambulance crews, one Rapid Response Paramedic and the Charity Air Ambulance with HEMS on board were also tasked to the incident. Despite the best efforts of the medical personnel, a 25-year-old male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Road closures were in place for some time but the Mullahead Road has since reopened, while a closure remains in place at Ballymore Road The PSNI have appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them. Two men arrested after attempting to 'evade Gardai' following burglary incident

Two men have been arrested after trying to "evade gardai" following a burglary incident at a home in Co Wicklow. Gardaí from Wicklow North Community Engagement responded following a report of an incident occurring at a residence in Greystones at approximately 2.30pm on Thursday afternoon. When Gardaí arrived to the scene, they carried out a search of the residence and "discovered both men attempting to evade Gardaí," according to a garda spokesperson. The two men, both aged in their 40s, were taken to Bray Garda Station and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. The men were found in possession of a bag containing property that has since been identified as belonging to the homeowners, and has been returned. The garda spokesperson said that investigations are ongoing. The arresters were carried out as part of Operation Thor, which was launched in November 2015 with the aim of detecting and preventing incidents of burglary and associated criminal activity by undertaking targeted enforcement and preventative activity. This initiative continues to have a positive impact on the reduction of property related crime in Irish communities. Since Operation Thor was established a reduction of approximately 75 per cent in residential burglaries has been recorded between 2016 and 2023. Between January 1, 2024, and December 11, 2024, 2,058 arrests and 4,663 charges and summons were recorded in association with Operation Thor.
